I doubt Girard ever has as poor a shooting night again, as someone else said, reminded me of the first few practices after Christmas break in high school, the rhythm of the game just wasn't there yet.

And you can't ignore the big shots at the end when the team needed them because earlier he played poorly, those shots still went in and were needed.

Now the defense was inexcusable, but JB obviously thought even then that this lineup was better and had a higher chance to pull it out in the end and guess what??? they did.

If Girard ever shoots 14% in a game again I'll eat a Georgetown Hat.

The issue yesterday was the fact they missed 14 days of practice and JB didn’t think Kadary was ready. I doubt it’s nothing more than that. He hates losing and had more confidence in the players on the floor. Braswell had a chance but missed all three of his shots. If he makes a couple I bet he stays in. Frank looked like a deer in headlights. I couldn’t figure out why Edwards didn’t get a shot. Girard was awful, but his two threes were huge. Before everyone goes off the deep end let’s see how the next couple of games play out. Remember last year, Girard went from some playing time to never coming off the floor.

How is JGIII "ready" when he shoots that poorly?

He shot less than 35% from the field last year. There is no deep end to go off of, this is who he is.

This is on top on his awful defense.

Instead of saying ready, he probably felt he wasn’t prepared.

Would have liked to see Braswell get some minutes in the 2nd half
JB said he wanted to get Braswell in the 2nd half but since Marek was playing the 5 and Griff/Q were playing well, it made it tougher

And got stripped and blocked in successive possessions in the second half.

So you're defending a claim you're making re: what the rotation will look like based on this first 'unique circumstances' game. That could only be considered a reasonable assessment if we could count on all the rest of the games we play being close, the entire 40 minutes. If this years team has only close games from here on out, then your prediction is likely to be true.

you think we’re blowing people out in ACC play?

you are the one who said we would play 8-10 guys, not me. I know what JB does.

He is a poor shooter.
He was also a freshman, playing out of position, on a poor team that had him, buddy , and hughes as the only offensive threats

Stop it. He is a lead guard, who played in a terrible league, who never was taught what to do correctly, and is out of shape.

This is a joke. This is who he is.

He never leveled up for a reason and for some reason people here blindly protect him.

I tend to give Freshmen thrust into prominent positions the benefit of the doubt.

some here want to vilify the kid just as badly.

He has never proven anything otherwise.

35% FG% last year. less than 45% eFG%.

Sucked the first game.

It's not vilifying the kid, it's recognizing who he is.

Again, on top of being a huge defensive liability.

I guess I didn't realize that collegiate careers ended after 1 year and 1 game, my bad

Please bet on a 35%... or actually a 34% shooter.

My bad.

Did other players get the same leash? Of course not.

You are rooting for a bench player, at best.

I root for all players wearing the Syracuse uniform, sad to see others not doing the same

So do I, for all my life. Since I can remember.

What I don't root for is an undeserving player to take minutes away from a player that deserves it.

I don't need my fandom questioned. I'm from New Berlin, NY, born in Cooperstown, grew up in the Binghamton area, went to undergrad and grad at SU.

My whole life has been SU.

I've been on this board for two decades. Don't come at me.

Those "undeserving players" are still Syracuse players. And you don't get to make that determination.

It's cool to have differing opinions. If I was coach I would have played Kadary in the 2nd half a lot too, but there are tons of moving pieces at play that JB has shown a mastery of for half a century, I think having a knee jerk reaction like this in response to a player you obviously have a bias against, is in poor taste is all. I am not "coming at you", just have a differing opinion.

I've also "been on this board for 2 decades" if you don't count this accounts start date like we won't count yours. I also have been a fan for more than 3 decades of my life, There isn't some magical number of years of being a fan or board member where your opinion automatically becomes the gospel just because.

What has our record been since the 25-0 start?

JGIII has proven nothing, literally nothing, to deserve a starting spot at SU. 35% FG% and terrible defense? Kid is not made for this level, period.

But here we are.

A solid middle of the conference level player was given tenure as a freshman and now a portion of the fanbase who think JB can do no wrong can’t be objective:

Girard would be the 4th guard for most SU teams before Cooney.

Again, no offense to you, but I will take JB's decision making on players talent levels and minute allotment over any poster on this forum.

Listen, we can agree to disagree. It's fine. Nothing personal. But I'll bet that JGIII stinks this year. Do I hope for that? No, of course not. Ask me to put money on it? Yes.

Yeah that’s the spirit.
JB is never wrong.
As great as a coach as JB has been let’s not forget the fact he has gotten the university on probation two times that resulted in banned postseasons and the university has remained loyal to him.
It’s a 2 way straight.
JB for Life. Right.

But is he the 4th best guard on this team right now? comparing him to other rosters is pointless.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't and that would be good for SU moving forward for him not to be. The other players if they are better will play more, especially if they are better defensively, We have 50 plus years of JB to fall back on to prove that. Being shocked that JB played it close to the vest with subs in a close game should surprise exactly no one.

I think everyone acting like I think Girard is the second coming of Dave Bing or Jimmer Fredette, isn't getting the gist of what I am trying to say, and that's probably because I am not explaining it eloquently or effectively enough. Hell I even said I would have sat Girard for Kedary if I was in charge. He was terrible yesterday minus the 2 shots at the end.

All I am saying is maybe let a kid have a longer leash than 1 year and 1 game when he wasn't supposed to get minutes and was thrown to the wolves, and when the team hasn't had any sense of normalcy in a year.

That's not what I said, what I said is effectively that if I am going to trust someone on college hoops expertise and decision making and my options are Alsacs, MikeSU02, or James Boeheim, I know whose opinion I value more in that particular arena of thought.
