From a playing time perspective, what you say makes sense.

However, it could be a situation where guys just don't want to play here anymore, even if they're going to get starter's minutes. I hope not, I really hope not. But there's more to the calculus than minutes, I suspect.

I kind of agree. None of us knows what is in any particular kid's mind, but it made zero sense for all 3 backup guards to transfer last summer. Kadary wasn't a 5 star kid coming in; at least one of them should have thought they would make the rotation.

Losing 3 guards you would think the staff would have wanted to restock next cycle.
But they didn’t.
We need this center.

Maybe for just that particular season. But sports teams continue year after year.

If you only have 8 guys, what if one gets hurt?

How do you run a good practice with fewer than 10 scholarship players?

How do you develop players for the future? (Oh, I forgot; we don't do that anymore ...)
