Does Carlos start next to JJ?

All I’m saying is Jyare will be a good ACC player, has lots of experience and that Donnie might not be super impactful from Day 1, especially after a shorter summer. He will have a good year and show lots of flashes
End of year, Donnie will be our best player. It won’t be close.

It's bad news all around. I can't imagine Carlos and JJ defensively will be beyond dreadful but probably better on offense than the alternative.

I hope the defense is better, I just don't see it.
I agree on the effectiveness of JJ defensively last season, but I land on the other side which is that I can’t quite understand how it was so bad. He moves his feet well, has good size/strength, works pretty hard. I’m hoping he can show more instincts and use his physical tools more to his advantage this year to become at least an average or maybe even solid defender? But that’s kind of just blind hope.

I will say I think there are systemic changes that help all of these guys. The philosophy we had last year is way, waaaayyyy to simplistic to work at this level.

My guess is he starts. We’re just trying to get into the tourney. We were clearly chasing PGs this offseason for a reason.

Start Carlos and if it blows up, slide JJ over and duct tape it together. Is what it is.

I think it'll depend on how the young guards develop on how much PT Carlos gets along with the flow of the offense when his in. JJ being able to play 1 or 2 gives Red some options.

Carlos seems to be a player that finds a way to the ball on D and moves the ball on O. I'm curious on how Red uses the Guards vs man and zone. Who's hot who's not and Carlos will be a solid player for Red to utilize.

Agree and if the guards don't stop penetration we'll see how deep the 4 and 5 are because of fouls and not only that but it creates more opportunities for O rebounds.

This may be the reason why we will see Carlos out there until the young guards get acclimated to playing at this level on D.

It’s bizarre honestly. How can someone as athletic as him struggle on defense?
