Does Dickie V Know Something We Don't?

I live in New Jersey. Talk about suck it up! I used to be able to go to Villanova, Seton Hall, Rutgers, St. Johns, and MSG all within an hour from my house. I have absolutely no sympathy for the townie season ticket holders.

That is pretty ignorant.....there is no program without those Townie season ticket holders.

How about playing the game on a raised court so people could stand around the game without seating. Something like the way the Stones concert was done in 81 and 84.

There's no local economy without out-of-staters paying for insane tuition fees!

Did you know in state students pay the same?

If this comes off, there will be "high placed individuals" from all over the basketball and political world who will be given preferential seating. This plus every sports writer who can wrangle a press pass will find up close seats as well. Where will CTO and friends sit? My guess, they will be reasonably well treated but probably not as good as normal. Those in the upper decks along the present court layout will likely have similar inline seating, but further away than normal.
This argument to me is like the thoughts of a new stadium with a rollback top. Outside of giving somebody a temporary buzz, my question on both issues is WHY?

Put simply, raised courts are the devil.

Happy to see you claim Long Island :), a quick 6 hour jaunt from SU.

Well it's in state he he whined about out of staters.

He doesn't have a point anyways.

His point was poorly made...end of the day the school is going to do what they think is in the best interests of marketing the school and the conference. People getting moved to a somewhat comparable seat is the least of TGD's concerns.

Great point Otto, I dont think anyone else has mentioned it either. At minimum SU would need to find 15,000 additional fans for this game on the numbers of 35K plus being the current record. With it being the first time SU ever moved the court I think they would get a huge response but I think most fans would be ignorant as to how far away they would actually be in this scenario. 15,000 people is a lot fans to add and as a fball and lacrosse season ticket holder I would probably pass on paying 60 bucks a ticket for 3rd level seats to this game and just watch at home.
These are some valid points. I think because of the spectacle they will be able to fine more people. But I agree it could be hard, and this is also why I think this is a once in a 10 years or so thing to do.

The part I disagree with is people saying we lose our homecourt advantage. So you think 45,000 fans is not an advantage? Honestly the players will be so jacked up for this game that could make up for any type of loss.

Can we consolidate all of the court conversations into one thread?

I know this is the most important thing to happen to upstate NY since the glaciers created the finger lakes, but it would be nice if we could talk about something else.

There's more to "home court advantage" than having a lot of fans at the game. Just look at Duke...they rarely lose at home and only play in front of like 9,000.

Being comfortable and the opponent being uncomfortable are the biggest part of it. I'm worried we won't be much more comfortable than them, with the court in a new place. It will feel different, and it will be something our players are experiencing for the first time.

We could play on our normal court that we are comfortable on, in front of 33,000-35,000 pumped up fans...that's always been an incredible experience. I'm not sure why it's not good enough now. It would be neat to see 45,000=50,000, but I'm not sure the extra 10-15,000 will really matter much for home court advantage. Maybe a little more noise(from deafening to even more deafening?), but at the trade-off of our players basically playing in a new gym.

This is the most pointless argument ever.

You can't go to road games anymore.....ok. Tough break. That has absolutely nothing to do with this issue though. Seems like you were just geeked up to go at the locals for some reason.

The other part of this is with 15-20k new Tix on the market, and no real idea as to how they will sell, we may end up with a huge contingent of the NY/NJ Duke fan club in those seats. Wouldn't it be real hospitable of us to make all those seats available for our new rivals.

Well-----yeah it would if they are in the end zones and adjacent areas.

I'm sure the hotel , restaurants and bar owners would have no complaints. Can everyone please look at the big picture. This would be such a huge win for Syracuse University and the community. These are the type of things that helps draw recruits for all sports and additional applicants for the school. More potential revenue for lots of sources.

That's a really ignorant post. SU is a private school. NY kids pay the same as out of state kids. And, I second the statement that the townie season ticket holders are the foundation of our fan base and are why we alway are one or two in the country in attendance.

Moving the court is the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard. It gives up our home court advantage in several ways and is wrong to season ticket holders. Leave the court where it is, the game will still break the on campus record and will be the ESPN lead in game for sure.

I am all for this move if done correctly. This event will send a statement to the ACC and the nation that Syracuse is an elite program. The poster above is correct when he said we are the only program who can pull this off. The Carrier Dome is a huge recruiting tool, so lets use it for special occasions. Too bad too sad for the season ticket holders. They will have to suck it up for the greater good of the program. Lets get this done!

Pretty stupid post. The season ticket holders will have to suck it up for the greater good of the program. What do you think season ticket holders have been doing? Some as many as 40-50 years. They are the foundation of the program.

You might argue that they have been sucking it up for the greater good of the athletic department over the last 20 years while being fed a steady diet of Sisters of the Poor and Mothers of the Blind on the OOC schedule.

There are two sides to every argument. I would love to see how people's opinions shake out as a function of the number of years they've held season tickets. My guess is that the longer you've held them the less likely you are to like this idea and the more passionate you are in favor of the idea the less likely it is that you have shelled out the change for the full slate.

I don't have time to read through the whole thread, but if they move the court, I would assume they'd move the season ticket holders closer. But it they put in temporary seats closer to the court, what happens to the seats behind them? The elevation of the new seats would block the old seats view, wouldn't it? I assume there's some sort of simple solution for this that I just can't picture in my head right now lol.

I'm thinking raised court with floor level seating. Think boxing ring style and the big donors and season tickets would be ringside or courtside as is the case here.
