Does Dickie V Know Something We Don't?

Maybe, just maybe, you as a loyal Syracuse Fan, can appreciate that you will "sacrifice" a bit of your sight-line vantage point (this is a maybe, but a real possibility, but you won't have worse seats than thousands have paids hundreds/thousands of dollars for in NCAA tourney games) for the sake of Syracuse University and the ACC making history (with our TV partner covering it like no other regular season conference game we've had). In addition, Boeheim and Coach K might only be coaching a few more years, you would be letting more folks in the door to be a part of history, when these legends meet for the first time as leaders within the ACC. This might pay off in more money for the ACC in future TV contracts, even more more showcase games for Syracuse in the future, and more wins across the board for Syracuse athletics when the funding through those contracts improve... Be a good neighbor (and fan), think long for the University. It is not always about each inconvenience. This would be for the greater good.

The only way this really works is to have an elevated court- otherwise you are losing a bunch of lower-level seats. Would you rather see SU-Duke for the 1st time in the ACC with a crowd of 34,000 on top of the action, or a crowd of maybe 40k with 70- 75% of the crowd sitting more than 50 yards from the court?

Tell me what would be the better choice for a history making event.

All of that could already be achieved, while leaving the court where it always is.

It can be Boeheim vs. Coach K in a heavily hyped matchup in front of a record crowd as it is.

Do we not remember the hype our 35,000 got just this past year? We don't need to move the court to break that or get that hype.
Moving it makes it unique. You are correct, we have already done the other. Just last year. We want to break the Georgetown/Big East record. Not tie it.

ESPN will cover the game the same way regardless if the attendance is 15,000, 30,000, or 45,000. Funny how Duke vs UNC never gets moved from Cameron to the Greensboro Coliseum "for the greater good".

And TV contracts are determined by what happens on the football side of the conference. Basketball is irrelevant. Just ask the New Big East.

Bottom line: you do not force your loyal season ticket holders and boosters to sacrifice anything. Not if you expect the donations to keep rolling in every year.

Our court is already unique!

And it's already the best, for big games.

Ridiculous.
Shouldn't be treating those blue bastards any differently than Rutgers.

Man the things people get so worked up about. One game out of the hundreds that have been played at the dome "might" have a different setup. Lord have mercy, what will we do??? And all the people here complaining that their seats for that game might be slightly worse have not even seen a potential seating chart, because one does not exist. So how do you know how bad that seat will be? People love to whine, especially here in Syracuse. It's not the end of the world, nor would you be getting "shafted" by the university. Time to shut down the pity party.

Duke - Cuse in front of 55k sure would not be an afternoon game.

Hey, the school could have chosen not to be proactive and not creative and you probably could've moved down a few rows to watch SMU and Houston.

On that note... :rolling: UConn...

I thought my seats at the Final Four were going to be awful. I was in the upper deck about 17 rows up. The seats were A LOT better than I could ever imagine. The Dome is much closer to the action than an NFL game. People are getting worked up, but I guarantee that the seats are not going to be as bad as one might believe.

i think its an awesome idea. Now taking that idea to make it a practical reality is where I am torn. You would have to move the student section for sure right? I mean otherwise the students are no longer even on the court so to speak. What about a compromise? Couldn't you move it further towards the middle maybe 20 yards further in while also moving back the seats in front of the curtain and then extend the sections open for long range viewing? Maybe go for 40k?

i think this pretty much guarantees this game will be a gameday game.

This would be billed as a heavy weight match between two of the best programs in the country.

Coach K vs Coach B #1 & #2 active coaches in wins

Partners in the Renaissance of Team USA Basketball who helped lead us to two straight gold medals at the Olympics.

I am a season ticket holder and have no problem with the possibility of having my seat moved for just one game that will make history and be good for the program.

I'm excited over the possibility

A REASONABLE MAN! Thank you.

He's just saying what we're all thinking.. If you didn't spill beer on someone during that 1998 SU-VT game, then you should have checked your pulse.

LOL! That's very funny.

Two things. First, I was really hammered and I spilled the 20oz on her the first moment I sat down just before the game. She stank of beer for 4 hours after that! I really drenched this poor woman. At the time, I was not in my old college days form. So it really hurt to being that drunk. So, to be honest with you, I do not have a very good memory of the game. Which is too bad because everyone tells me what a great game it was! It all started with 3 hours of drinking pitchers of beer at Charlie's before the game.

Second, I was road tripping with a guy who was a VT alumnae from where I worked at the time. And I remember that he was really upset by the loss. And I had to really walk on egg shells the next day when we were driving back to New Jersey.

The other thing I remember from the game was my friend putting his two hands up in the air making a Hokie shape with his thumb as the head and the fingers as the feathers. And then he made a gobbling noise. I have to admit, it was kind of fun to do. But all-in-all, it was pretty stupid looking and thank God we Orange do not have anything that degrading.

Speaking of degrading stupid fan antics. I am not looking forward to Florida State tomahawk chant. Boy, that sure gets old very quickly!

I am so glad to hear that. I know not everyone agrees with you. Seems like we have a lot of Andy Rooney's on board. Of course, he was a Colgate Red Raider. They never have to deal with this issue. Last year they averaged 458 people per game at home. I think we've almost topped that in the chat room. I wonder how the demand was when Foyle was there.

We literally had this same thread a couple of months ago when the idea was introduced, in started to get ridiculous. Some Syracuse fans love the idea (I consider myself in that crew), some hate it (a sprinkling of season ticket holders), nobody is changing their stance on it. But I know for a fact that is going to happen... I have one "source" at Syracuse (not much in light of some posters here) in the ticket office at the Carrier Dome, and I've known for a few weeks that it is a go. So start preparing now!

theres no way dickie v would have tweeted that if he didnt have some inside info, i think this is happening.

Holy crap is this a thread of "first-world problems" if I've ever seen one.

They are featuring this IN SYRACUSE. The next closest thing in line for press in Syracuse will be the wine slushies at the state fair.

Just be happy that the attention is on us and our facilities.

I sat in the top row behind the basket in the Georgia dome for the final four this year. If I had to do it again I would. The experience.

You chose to though. Some of us donate thousands of dollars every year for the right to purchase tickets where we do. While it is a single game, it is the single biggest game at the Dome and those with good or great seats may be told their seats won't be as good. I'm guessing many of those on twitter and some here either don't have seasons, don't have the better seats and don't donate thousands.
