Don’t shoot the messenger. 2030 with Red???

Are you kidding me?

So not only did we hire the wrong guy by pretending JB was Thanos, but then we did this?

Holy hell. If this is remotely close to the correct assumptions that is terrible.

This bad.

I’m not sure of exact figures, but the buyout money is already secured.

He gone…

It doesn't matter that the money is already secured, it's how much.

I don't think that $13M figure is right, but even if it's based off base salary but based on a SEVEN year contract, that is outrageous.

Can’t be.. please? Maybe the buyout is much smaller. Why would you sign a guy with no HC experience to a 7 year deal? Who was after Red, Chicago State?

If accurate, compare Red's contract to Hubert. Hubert at least led them to an ACC regular season championship and a Final Four, Red's contract would be about 3x Hubert's in that span. If accurate, Hubert base salary started at $400,000 and Red started at $1.7 million.

Based on his resume he shouldn't have gotten an interview. But if you are going to hire him then it shouldn't have been more than 4 years tops at $2M per. We should have gotten a alumni discount even if he was a good coach.

It continues to amaze me how these schools get run over by agents.

Why would anyone give a first time head coach with no experience a 7 year deal. Paying him $3mm is just awful
The only verified number in that article is the 1.7m base salary for Autry in 2023. The rest is speculation.

Anything is possible, but I find it very hard to believe that he was given a 7 year contract. I'd also guess - no inside info here - that his buyout clause is deescalating each year of the contract on or around mid-March. Another reason the university will not fire him in season.
