Gerry McNamara needs to be the next coach

As I said in another thread, parsing the meaning between being 4th, 5th or 6th is ridiculous.

11 “coaches” sent a list. I imagine whoever responded (grad assistant, admin, Uber Eats delivery guy) took all of 45 seconds on it. If that.

The ACC has two premiere gigs: Duke and UNC. The have 3 upper tier gigs: UVA, Louisville and SU. Then there’s a bunch of school somewhere between “pushing upper tier” and “falling into lower tier”. Then there’s BC.

Herren had zero to do with it. You don’t know what you are talking about. Herren was actually not an idiot. Lazy yes, but got in. Had he not broken his hand who knows what happens.

Chrissy was his own worst enemy once things got hard.

He left because he had every single Fall River bozo in his dorm doing blow while he was rehabbing.

O’Brien was on the cusp there.

It was his drug problem, not a broken hand, that ruined his career.

Well, this has been a fun thread, hasn’t it? :)

I want to reassure all the people who like me that I am not one bit devastated by disagreement. A friend dared me to post this and so I did, knowing most of you would say “WHAT TH??” I was interested in your responses and laughed out loud at several. I am not a basketball expert. That is clear. But I am a huge bball fan and I am so sad that it seems like this year will be a bust. I feel for Red, but he does have to go. I hope the next coach we get will stay with us for 20 years, not 4 or 5.

I love you guys.
Love back.
But, this was Strike One.

😅

My two cents on Gmac is that he bleeds Orange and if not for the pecking order would have been chosen to take over for Jim. The decision to hire Red was the only choice once it was decided to stay in house.

Major criticism of Gmac is that he isn't a very good recruiter. I have been critical of his recruiting and i stand by that. I don't think he is as good as hop was or as good as Red. It isn't his strong suite.
I do think that he is a good coach from what i have seen so far. His players play hard and i like his substitution pattern and choices much better than Red.
The only reason that i would consider hiring Gmac is if he has major support from donors. Gmac is a hero to many in our region, and he might just be able to raise significant NIL funds. If and only if that is the case would I consider hiring him.

O'Brien was told by a B.C. admin that O'Brien couldn't take care of his daughter, let alone Herron. Are you saying that wasn't said to him. Because I know for sure that it was. O'Brien rightfully left soon after this. Oh, and the ACC coaches in a poll with the field of 68 rated the B.C. job last in almost every area in the ACC. Oh, and since you can't have a respectable conversation, which seems like the norm for you, with eh I don't know what I am talking about line, a rep you have earned , consider yourself on ignore.

Gerry is a great alumni of Syracuse University, but as a season ticket holder for Siena, I will tell you that Syracuse can do a lot better at this present time.

Can Gerry make the step from Siena to Syracuse? Hopefully, if in the next few years he takes Siena to a couple NCAA tournaments and wins a couple games. And hopefully if he develops the Siena program to be not only the cream of the MAAC, but also a mid-major program that no one wants to play because on any given night his team can upset yours because not only has he attracted a lot of talent, but they also have a finely tuned offense and defense.

Right now Gerry is still figuring it all out. His program is on the rise, but it's not there yet. The best part of transitioning from Xmas to the New Year for programs like Siena and even LeMoyne is now they can really show their fans how well put together and well coached their teams are.
Agree.

I had high hopes for Jamion Christian - then he left after one year, went to GW and has imploded. Bryant is a big mess this year, too.

Not sure why we’d think hiring a guy with one marginally good year at Siena is a good idea - we don’t even have to go back a decade to see the most likely outcome.

The other down side of being a nice guy is that when you don’t win every poster has to start their message with “He’s a great guy god bless him… and I feel for him… BUT”
Ha, this made me think back to when I was promoted to a Director position at a previous company and was taught the art of the “compliment sandwich”

Red is such a class act, etc. However, <insert laundry list of issues as a coach>. He was an amazing player, etc. I wish him luck in whatever comes next.

I agree about the recruiting. I can't remember how many times we heard that Gerry was the lead recruiter on this guy or that one. When they committed somewhere else, I remember several HS coaches saying "nobody outworked GMac" - kind of like a participation trophy for somebody who they didn't want to offend, but was never going to close the deal.

He left like 3 years later.

After Michael Bradley and Penn couldn’t be admitted. What are you talking about respectful? Cmon. I’m disagreeing w you and that’s a line in the sand? I respect your cuse knowledge but I grew up w herren/skip karem playing hoops. I kinda know this story. Chrissy was a great player who’s real drug issues started a lot later. Like a lot of us he was just a degenerate casual in 1994-1995.

Edit: Monty Mack was the admission issue. The other 2 just decommitted and Obrien left for Ohio st w Penn .

I actually think Pitt is a better job than it’s getting credit for here. It can and should be better than Clemson, Wake, SMU, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. Pitt just keeps making bad hires and stuck with Capel too long.

Syracuse should be higher on the list, too, but I’ll let that go. The size of the Dome gives you enormous room to grow your revenue if you can actually fill it like we used to. Plus, a wider marketing of the team upstate (in Rochester, Watertown and Binghamton) will help once the product improves.

It was his broken hand which allowed the devil to be idle . So chicken egg.

His brother Mike didn’t last long at bc either.

This is revisionist history. He had drug problems before he ever arrived at BC.

I’m not giving up on Red but if this is his last year then sign John Beilein to a 2-5 year deal get the program back to respectability. Players don’t care about coaching stability anyway and we wouldn’t either as could build from the portal. Very confident he would sign a short deal, and also very confident he would get the program back in the top 20 if given solid nil.

no thank you. I want all traces of JB removed once Autry gets fired. Burn it all to the ground and start over.

Agreed... but this is the soft serve thread that will remain on page 1 to soften us all up to the idea, so that when JB involves himself in the next hire decision... and this ACTUALLY HAPPENS, you were warned.

frankly the "we need coach gerry crowd" to me is like a little bunch of house poodles who sit in the bay window and yap endlessly thinking that the entire world is no larger than the view of only backyard they've ever seen . the likable ex player familiar dude you've known forever is not the answer . we need a real coach.get over it.
