Donnie Freeman injures foot

as a player i'm sure he wants to play at this level. high school into collegiate is a big jump.
not sure what his peeps are telling him but be a shame to shut him down not knowing.
thus far shown us nothing close to being a dominant player at this level. needs to play .

My fear is based upon how the season has unfolded, and how things have really gotten exposed from a coaching standpoint. Freeman and his camp expected to be one-and-done. Doesn't mean that they wouldn't have considered returning for a second year, but that would have been based on things looking rosy next season.

When Freeman committed her back in spring 2023, he was optimistic about Red [and Straughn], and last year's decent outing seemed to validate that confidence.

But this year has been such a shiz show, that I imagine that the Freeman camp's confidence has wavered -- a lot. Their kid went from being a preseason guy projected toward the back of the lottery, to a mid-second round projection [at best]. They might think that they could be better prepared for the NBA going elsewhere, based upon how this year has unfolded. They have to be worried.

Likewise I've heard some reason for optimism about Donnie possibly returning. However in this environment it only takes one stupid offer to make people change their minds and you don't have to be an NBA scout to see Donnie's potential and present ability.

Cuse will have money to compete even if they do. Donnie got 150k from cuse this year. He had offers that were double and triple that. His injury is not helping his draft stock or his transfer stock either… And he knows how much the roster next year will suit his game

Have you heard anything, if you can speak to it (if not, no worries at all), how they would co-exist on the floor together? I can't imagine Donnie or Sadiq want to play the five so would Donnie bump up to the three?

Donnie has suffered from unfair expectations from the fanbase who saw 5 stars and expected an NBA ready player and saw first round projections. I'm actually very impressed that he has averaged 14 and 8 as a freshman. His shot was improving as the season went on before his injury. On the bench he is engaged and is a good teammate. Obviously we would like to see better defense and shot blocking from him but I would be over the moon if he was back next year. He's better than Jerami Grant was as a freshman, if not as athletic.

I am guessing not, as you'd want a more traditional Center(and I think Ideally a veteran PG). But I am curious what you think a potential starting lineup will look like(understanding a million scenarios may unfold between now and next season) as seemingly none of these kids will want to sit.

Yeah I think people are missing that Freeman has such obvious talent that he's putting up numbers without really fully understanding what to do on the basketball court.

He's going to figure it out and he'll be a monster.

Really hope he sticks around and we find out.

He needs to hit the weight room as well as part of the "figuring it out"... If he can beef up with 20-25lbs. of muscle, he'll be ready for beastmode.

Love the Grant comparison.

And like Grant -- despite being skinny now, you can see that Freeman has a great frame, and will be a monster once he adds weight / strength.

Tools are there. Year has been lost [mostly] from a developmental standpoint, due to injuries.

Yeah, I know I'm in the minority, but I want to see that lineup. I think it might be really good. Kid is bigger than most give him credit for too. We'd want a traditional defensive-minded center off the bench though.

Kiyan is better than all of those guys out of HS. Moore isn’t the first freshman whos struggled.

Just keep adding talent. Need a good 5 next year. Freshmen often struggle especially on defense.

Yeah I don’t think one can all the expectations “unfair” when the staff and those who are considered insiders were hyping the guy up. “Premature” may be the better word to use.

If the team wasn’t so lousy overall and Freeman wasn’t playing hurt for much of the year, I expect he’d be really coming into his own by this point in the season. If there’s any chance of him re-injuring himself this season then he should shut it down.

I hope he comes back next year. Given where his draft stock is now I think it’d serve him well to do that.

yeah but that takes dedication. A lot of his issues are lack of trying on defense. He does really good on o so i know he is capable but being lazy on defense doesnt look good for his at all. If i wanna be a one and done then i am hustling my butt doing everything full speed. His lack of ambition hurts him. If he played at Duke he wouldnt play much not cause he isnt good enough. Its effort and thats all and when he sees that he will be an animal. Has all the talent.
