Donnie Freeman injures foot

You’re also entitled to your opinion, but everything is going to depend on his recovery from his foot injury.

If he enters the portal, he will get SEC and Big 10 offers, probably the only person on the team. If it isn't a SEC or Big 10, it will be another big time school like Kansas/Duke/UNC/Arizona/Maryland, etc. We will be lucky if he stays. He isn't going to be one of our guys who hits the portal and ends up a Siena or UCF.

I agree he won’t go down a level, but if he enters the portal he can forget about any rehab or physical therapy at SU. He will be on his own. His team might be ok with that, but it’s a risk. I think SU already knows what it will take to keep him and they definitely want him back. They have a big pot, but not an unlimited pot. They have to get 3-4 players from the portal and they need to decide what they can get for the biggest bang for their buck.

One of issues with the college game and NIL (as opposed to the NBA) is as of now no one knows what the pool of like players will be. Freeman will only be one of many very good options that will probably project at the same $$ level. I'm not saying getting a commitment from him early isn't good, but it doesn't mean SU can't attract somebody as good or better with the same $$. It's a real crap shoot, just like the whole system is insanity at all levels.

What else would the use to score? Pomegranates? Eliminating redundancies is important.
Hey, give him a break - most likely he’s an SU grad. Our brain function goes the way of our basketball program.

The kids on Mt St Mary's looked like bodybuilders compared to our guys. It's insane that this never gets focused on.
Agree and we have had the same guy on staff for years. It’s unreal.

Donnie can get paid well anywhere including Syracuse from what insiders are sharing about available funds this year. Syracuse could offer alot and still not retain which would mean it's not really about the money potentially. I hope he stays but if he doesn't I think it will be for reasons other than bank.

It will eventually.

Devo all but saying outright "He gone".

Maybe he's just guessing, but I don't think he'd be saying this publicly unless it was known behind the scenes.

"... I don't know man... He might be going somewhere else." (@ about the 3:00 mark)

It is hard to know what you need from the portal until after your players decide to portal or not.

Right now based on known attrition, Syracuse needs 1-2 centers, 1 point guard, and 1 small forward. If Donnie and Choppa leave, you add the need for another power forward and a combo guard.

I repeat that the portal gives a school opportunity to rebuild or refresh your team on a yearly basis but it also takes away fan interest when a team does a mass replacement every year. There is little continuity from one year to the next. I feel that sooner or later, the excitement of rooting for a college team will fade.

You know that NBA teams do not make the mass (mess) replacements that the college teams have done over the past 2-3 years.

Fan interest is a major concern in the current landscape.. I think from a fans perspective that a dream scenario would be freshman have three options; transfer, NBA, or sign a 2/3 year contract.
