Don't just look at 0-4

Reading these and other posts, both Tommy and Garrett have gained yards and produced scores that 'don't count' for one reason or another. So i guess we have have to find a way to also score enough points that do count to beat Florida State.

IF they’re beating us so badly that their starters are playing Hangman on the sidelines, it won’t matter if GS or Tommy throws for 2 late TD’s against the scrubs to make it a slightly less embarrassing blowout.

Context matters.

These are the types of lines I’d load up and lay the points. Home favorites that you think should be dogs.

usually hit. Hope it doesn’t this time.

Found my answer on GS starts.
1. Kentucky - 305 total yards. 180 passing and 125 rushing. Accounted for all of st. 6 20 plus yard plays. 4 on passes.
2. LSU - 304 total yards. 238 yards passing and 66 rushing.
3. Tex A&M - 258 total yards. 194 passing and 64 rushing 3 passing TD
4. Ole miss - 108 pass and 19 rush. 2 TD

Auburn - came in end of 1st. Put together a 75 yard scoring drive. 298 total yards. 209 passing and 89 rushing.

was not a 300 yard a game passer but I would take those kind of stats as a starter in a min. Not sure he can do at su but I’m hoping.
Idk why he would be able to put up those numbers against some of the best teams from the SEC but will have trouble with the likes of Wake, Pitt, BC, etc. He won't be a gunslinger but I think once he gets comfortable which is hopefully this saturday, then he will be fine.

I’ve been being so repetitive about this for a few weeks now, people just look at the stats and assume things. Context matters when it comes to stats. Him going down the field and scoring a TD in a 0-0 game against Auburn is not the same as him going down the field and scoring a TD when his team is down 42-0. You can’t just look at the stats, you have to dig deeper. For example if Tommy Devito transferred and fans of his next school just looked at his stats in 2019. 19TDs to 5 interceptions completing over 60% of his passes they could spin it into him being a good quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over and completes a high percentage of his passes, when in reality we all know why his numbers look like that. context is so important with stats.

Most of those numbers came after the game was in check, against backups.

The best thing about this thread is we believe that we can beat FSU. That in itself feels good after the last couple of years

I'm glad we have the Garrett fans to determine what of Tommy's yards and scores should count and the Tommy fans to determine what of Garrett's yards and sores should count.

During the game the commentators brought up td stats and a little icon appeared showing them . They were impressive and at that moment I learned stats Dont mean jack if there’s no w tied to them.

We need to be worried about Florida state. I’m not buying into 0-4, they are better than record
Welp hopefully this is the game that proves they are actually in the dark ages instead of a rebuild like we have been since the gerg era. The only thing keeping Fl state relevant at this point is there name cache. I know it’s good for our conference to have a good Florida state program, but for there arrogance to fire taggart for no reason and think Norvell is gonna turn it around in one year , I kinda really want them to just stink for years to come. I think they come out Saturday and really try to pound the ball with there rb’s. It’ll be a slug fest

I know Shrader is capable of having decent to good passing games. He proved it as a true freshman vs sec defenses. He had plenty of games, some against ranked sec teams with stats along the line of 15-20 for 200 plus yards and a td. Not great numbers, but impressive for a true freshman. All we need is a game manager, combined with our defense and ground game. Throw it 20 times a game, complete over 60%, and throw more TD's than picks. He's capable, but I don't think he'll be there by Saturday.
He didn’t have a single game where he threw for 75% and 200 yards in 2019…. He played 2 ranked teams, Auburn he went 12-23 for 209 and 2 TDs (they lost the game 56-23) and they played LSU he went 17-28 for 238 with 1 TD and 2 Ints (they lost 36-13). Those are not world beating stats and most of his yards in those games were in garbage time.

I'm far more worried about this game than I was Liberty. Sure they lost to J-State but their other losses were all to P-5 teams (we have only played one P-5 team and we know how that turned out). You can toss in the fact that one of their losses was in OT to current #9 ND, our game is on the road, and we still have question marks on offense. Not saying we won't win but if we do I expect it to be very close. On paper this might be our least formidable opponent the rest of the way but I think that might be very deceiving.
Toledo also lost to ND by 3 and Toledo lost to Colorado state…

After watching their conference call on Monday, which was 75 minutes long and included the HC, DC, OC, and STC "giving away tactical advantages," I think they might look for 1:1 matchups with the WRs and throw long early and often. The OC talked about SU's D, the Rocky Long coaching tree, and the belief that SU is selling out to stop the run and create chaos at the LOS. Stopping "explosive plays" will be important.

Our corners are good...our safeties...?
We're gonna find out Saturday.

I often hedge against us. This week seems as good as any. Of course, now FSU will be up 11, and screw up/fumble during victory formation which we'll scoop and score 7 for a backdoor cover. Scholars will maintain that we played well because we only lost by 4.

I don't agree with those that think Louisville took their foot off the gas pedal in a 31-13 game at halftime. Try to run clock a bit, sure but that's way too much time left for a 3 score game. I think they only had 2 first downs and 55 yards of offense in the 2nd half.

Some think we're getting FSU at the best time, I kinda think we're getting them at the worst.

But we're better than the 2019 team that went down there and was just out-athleted by a not very good FSU team in front of a sparse crowd with pitchforks out.

I really wish they were 2-2 now that I'm thinking about it. I feel like they're going to come out on fire on Saturday.

Can you imagine the disrespect anybody who is associated with the team has taken this week?

I know and its really strength on strength. If Shrader had TD's arm then I would feel a lot better.
Going to need some outside the box plays, but i think the game is going to be physical.

Syracuse Orange at Florida State Seminoles

Florida State (0-4) is a favorite over 3-1 Syracuse. This is just the second time we've seen a Power 5 matchup in which a team 0-4 or worse has been favored over a team with a winning record. The other time came in 1988, when 0-4 Tennessee was a 3.5-point home favorite over 2-1 Washington State. The Cougars won that game 52-24, and a year later, head coach Dennis Erickson was off to Miami.

Let’s hope the same thing happens this time

FSU has a dynamic back and some athletes on defense. They ran into a bit of bad luck, but they could easily be 3-1 with a win against ND instead of 0-4. Just some perspective in case things don't go our way on Saturday.
you are what your record says you are.
