My Father took me to my first SU game when I was 11, that was 52 years ago. I live in Miami and every Saturday during football season I get psyched for the SU game. This may be the toughest season I have ever seen an SU team have, at the begging of the year I really thought we would have a breakout season.

Unfortunately, we are not having the kind of season that was expected. The injuries the team has had is something I have never seen for a football team. Yet they continued to play their hearts out each and every game. Schaffer is a good coach and will turn this program into a consistent winner, just needs a little more time. The kids like playing for him and he can recruit, we have some very good young talent on this team.

What never ceases to amaze me is the lack of support the team gets from the town itself. Even though I live in Miami my wife and I attend one road game and one home game each year. Watching the game on TV today I do believe that a packed making a lot of noise could have made a difference in the outcome. But on a cold blustery day the good people of syracuse must have had something better to do, and then the fans that were at the game desert the team on senior day, classless.

Obviously, you didn't see all the fallen leaves in the Syracuse area on TV. 'Twas a deciduous tsunami, sir, a deciduous tsunami! Don't know how I made it to the Dome in that sea of leaves! Thank God for the rakers--they helped me get through.

If you have a home record/results like syracuse has had this year, turnout is not going to be good.

Calling fans classless for not attending while you watched on tv is pretty classless.

Agree on most topics but blasting the fans for not showing up to a 12:30 game with the way the offense has been for the last 2 years with no sign of improving is a little harsh. Most fans in this town are not SU alums and if you haven't noticed the local economy is very bad. I don't blame fans for not paying for tickets, parking and overpriced concessions for such a boring predictable team. We've been competitive in almost every game (defensively at least) but it's the same mistakes & head scratching coaching decisions that have made me give away my tickets weekly and consider not renewing for next year. I'm not an alum and if the university doesn't give me what I deem good value for my limited entertainment money I'll spend it elsewhere. Its not Syracuse residents fault all the time. Enjoy the winter in Miami

A lot of people live all over. Whats your point? Complaining about attendance when you're watching at home is stupid. I was there so I appreciate your "effort" but do you think you're gonna guilt more people into going by calling them classless?

I don't like the lack of attendance anymore than you but I can tell you that the place got loud - the people cheered and were into it until about 9 minutes in the 4th quarter when we fell apart. Those that do go - were not sitting on their hands. I was happy for the enthusiasm despite the disappointing result.

I didn't have the same expectations that you had for this season but I basically agree with all of your points except for the final one. I have been disappointed for many years by the number of empty seats at our home games but I have never considered people who don't come to the Dome classless. There are thousands of people who follow the team but rarely attend. They may not share my level of enthusiasm for SU football but when we start fielding better teams there is no doubt in my mind that a lot of those fans will start showing up more often.

I lived in Miami and the Cane's have never gotten the kind of crowd support they deserve from students at the university or the local community. There are reasons for this. The games are played far from the campus and college football just isn't as popular in Dade County as it is at many other places.

You can also make a strong case that college football is not that big in central New York. In my opinion, we are not going to attract crowds that fill the stands until we have better teams that play a more exciting brand of football. I've never understood why people leave a sporting event while the outcome is in doubt, but I can't criticize everyone who left before today's game was over. The outcome was etched in stone before the clock ran out.

Go Cuse!

Yep, as usual let's blame the fans. If we just had 6k more there we would have won.

If it was that easy they'd just give tickets away.

For one of the few times ever, I wasn't angered at the fans leaving early. Our collapse was so sudden and staggering that I couldn't argue with their haste to get out.
The students, however, were never there to begin with. The libraries must have been packed to capacity.

exactly, every time I read one of these dopey posts I want to dope slap the poster. Mostly because they're usually not there. Though it may look somewhat empty on tv, there was actually a decent size crowd today, especially in the upper levels. And the fact that there were as many of us in there today as there was, for a 3-6 team no less, being as loud as that crowd was (loudest of the year IMO), it's amazing to me. Good work today by the crowd, with nearly zero help from the students.

I have missed one home game in the last 24 years and never leave a game early. It did not bother me in the least that people were leaving early because after Shafer's decision to give Duke 3 points when he went for the fake punt in a one score game it was over. I truly feel bad for the SU marketing staff because there is no way to motivate the casual fan to spend their hard earned money watching SU football. This is one of the most disappointing seasons I have witnessed but I will be back next year hoping we can beat 1 division one team in the Dome.

gonna hold out hope that this is part of the learning curve, but the reality is that this is likely the first nail in the coffin of an ending none of us want to see for him. Meaning instead of decent success next year, more stuff like this happens and they underachieve due to things like this. Leading to most schools to part ways after year three, but because that's not how things are done up here, meaning we have to suffer through a fourth year of less than stellar football.

I was at the FSU game and the student section was a goddamn disgrace at that game too, has it been like that all year?

no actually early in the season they showed up in numbers and represented to a degree I've never seen before. The locals are loyal, the students...eh, not so much.

It's so weird. I'll never quite understand the lack of school spirit when you have a D1 football program. I don't care how bad a season they're having. I would have gave my left arm to have a P5 level football program at my school undergrad.

Good God! When will you people get it? LISTEN UP! IT'S ENTERTAINMENT! LOSING REPEATEDLY IS NOT ENTERTAINING! IF THAT HAPPENS, YOU FIND OTHER THINGS TO DO. JESUS...

So stop bitching about other people going or not going to the game.

I live in DC and I was there today. Those there were loud and considering how the team has played at home and how the season has gone, I don't think it was too bad of a crowd.

Crowd was OK. For our play recently...

I want to see the dome full again though...

The out of town fan who watches the game from his couch complains about support in syracuse. Gfy

I live in Cololrado Springs but I am currently on deployment in the middle east who watched the game from a couch lastnight, should I also go *** Myself?? Its obvious that the frustrations of this season have spread to all fans near and far. No need to put a guy on blast over it. I agree with most everyone, you win, you pack the house, you lose its empty. Same applies to all teams for all sports nationwide.
