These two definitely do not get along. It has somehow become personal for them lol.

Jay Williams is an ass hat. And he always brings up his resume. He's not knowledgable or insightful either. And he has problems forming complete sentences without stammering.

I'd still rather listen to Gottlieb than Jay Williams any time. Doug knows what he's talking about. I'm not sure Jay actually knows he's talking.

Gottlieb is knowledgeable, no doubt. Could also see how he gets on the nerves of his co-workers. He was jousting with Adrian Branch the other night. AB seems as friendly as they get, always has a smile on his face.

I honestly think he hit his head in his motorcycle accident.

My favorite thing about that is that ESPN had that short lived reality show "Beg, Borrow, and Deal" and one of the contestants was a former Duke football player who knew Jay Williams. Anyway, in one episode (which aired after the accident) his team ran across Jay for some reason, who was perched on his motorcycle and confided to this former Dukie, who was a friend, that "I'm not supposed to have this."

Oh, the hilarity.

Dan Dakich is terrific, too

he doesn't just "know" his stuff, either - he clearly works hard to keep informed, and not just on college bball. those who listen to his radio show know that he clearly spends a lot of off-air time doing research on anything that is likely to come up that night.

yeah - I just don't get the Gottlieb angst. He obviously is taking is job seriously, and I think he is pretty good at it..

It's because he doesn't get on his knees for Syracuse, so people take offense.

He's just not that kind of girl, and people should accept that.

People take issue with Gottlieb because the guy comes off as an chode. He's not on the level of a Bobby Valentine on air, but he doesn't always offer respect to his counterparts. There are plenty of people who know their stuff on that network who treat others better than he does. Unfortunately, they are all on game broadcasts and not in studio, which is where ESPN has really taken a hit after their reporting.

Exactly.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. It's not that he doesn't know his stuff, he does, and his opinions are usually pretty sound, it's the way he says it and his seeming lack of respect for other opinions. He is knowledgeable, but he is not all that respectful.

I would agree with that, but I think it's also because he doesn't always say nice things about SU that people on this board have a hard on for him.

If he did everything he does now with regard to his conduct with his colleagues on air, but said nice things about SU a lot, he'd be more popular here.

that's true... in general people like people who agree with their own opinions... Not everyone, but in general. Also, it seems like the sports business, like the evening news, has ventured more and more into the entertainment business and maybe those that aren't as "obnoxious" as Dougey don't survive. He is certainly doing a good job at surviving... ;)
