Doug to interview with Cleveland and Buffalo

He seems to not even be the 3rd choice of most teams. Hopefully there won't be anything to worry about , just timing is horrible . Even if things work out for us this time, it should show us we better be prepared cause the time is coming and coming soon

Chip Kelly and Bill Obrien can't coach every team (not that I think Obrien is going anyway with is buyout). 3rd choices get jobs. Ask Joe Philbin in Miami!

Ray Horton: Multiple sources are reporting that Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton will interview with Bills, the Browns and the Cardinals for their respective head coaching positions.

What hurts is not only if Marrone leaves but that the high quality available coaches were already snapped up in December. Losing a coach to the NFL at this time and later really is a twofold kick in the crotch as people have already pointed out the recruiting thing.

If and when Marrone goes to the NFL it will be for one if three jobs: NYJ, Tennessee or New Orleans. Thankfully none of them have openings. Next year though... ?????

Not really on top of the Jets thing but would it be possible that the new GM might get rid of Ryan? I assume it would be his job to evaluate the whole coaching staff once hired.

Woody Johnson likes "STARS" and "BIG NAMES" Doug never ever be the head coach of the Jets!

The post was less about what the NFL teams would be looking for and more what Marrone would be looking for. IMO, the Titans job would be squarely in his wheelhouse. The NYJ job would be his ultimate dream job, but it doesn't mean he'll ever get a shot with the Jets.

A few things:

First, if you hate on Doug for leaving to take an NFL HC job then you are just being selfish because you don't want him to leave (nobody wants him to leave, including me, and rightfully so). He has resurrected what was once a proud football program and we need to thank him for that. Future looks better than it has in a long time.

This would be a huge move for Doug in advancing his own career and for his family financially. You have to think that him not having to go out and recruit on half of the days of the year is a HUGE benefit. It will allow him to spend more time with his young kids and amazing wife. His family would be set financially forever (not saying he is bad off now). Legacy planning territory.

DM being an NFL HC is good for the SU. This was his "dream job". So if he moves on does that mean that he was full of it? Maybe he never envisioned himself being an NFL HC. It is awesome that his goals are continuing to rise with his success.

Congrats to DM if he lands one of 32 top coaching football jobs in the world. But some people on here wanted him fired 2 months ago. Don't realize what you got til it's gone.

@DannyParkins: .@JasonLaCanfora says the #Chiefs are interested in Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone, who I think is fantastic. http://t.co/SyCJWSqk

He doesn't need to do this to leverage anything, and there is nothing wrong with interviewing.
Other than causing current and future recruits to question his commitment to SU, you're right.

@JasonLaCanfora: Will be interesting to see if close pals Emery (CHI) and Pioli (KC) get into a duel for Syracuse coach Doug Marrone. both very high on him

If those jobs are the true end game, doesn't it make more sense to take a NFL head gig to better position yourself for those jobs?

If Marrone is successful in the NFL, he will be able to move on to his choice of jobs. Unless Marrone becomes Chip Kelly or Nick Saban, he will not have that same luxury coming from college.

Doug going to the pros shows what someone successful can do with the platform SU provides. HCSU is not a dead-end job, a statement that was not necessarily a given when we hired Doug. That said, I'd much prefer Doug stay. He's successful and discontinuity hurts any college program.

@Jeff_McLane: Add Doug Marrone to 2 other college coaches (Chip Kelly, Bill O'Brien) #Eagles are interested in. I'm hearing Syracuse coach is on radar.
