Down to Flood and Cristobal for Rutgers job...

Honestly don't remember saying "when". Only remember say there would be a bombshell (my choice of adjective) and I still believe that, in fact there could be 2 whatever adjective you want to use, bombshell, shocker, surprise, etc. One I believe has been decided upon and in "place" while the other may still happen. I'm not talking about the guy someone found in the directory. But I seriously don't remember (I am sure someone will search) saying it would be announce today, tomorrow, this week etc. It looks like Doug will wait until after LOI like he did last year. Why he waits I don't now but it's his preference I guess.

I think it's crazy that he hasn't hired assistant coaches yet. Do you believe he has or hasn’t?

I don’t think he has because I find it hard to believe word wouldn’t have leaked out. With as much as the recruits blab to the writers I’d think it would have leaked out. Some recruit mentioning his ‘position coach’ etc. No way.

And definitely can’t fault kids who’ve reneged if they don’t know who their position coach is going to be.

I think he's a good choice for them. Hope HCDM puts the full court press to open the floodgates. Ialso wonder if thisd affects owens and Glantons' recruitment.

I'm not convinced.
Coaching a middle-of-the-pack Sun Belt Conference team, at a school located in a hotbed of HS talent, is a much different gig than coaching a middle-of-the-pack team in a dying conference.

Prediction based on nothing :

Owens sticks to FIU
Glanton flips to SU

Who could they have gotten who's better? Nick Saban wasn't coming in

We are getting our #1 choice in Mario Cristobal. I am thrilled with this hire and have wanted him since Schiano announced he was leaving. We are getting a solid coach who can recruit well. He will be keeping most of our key assistants as part of the deal. Works out great, we can give MC a nice raise to come and also have lots of money left over from Schiano's bloated salary to give some assistants(Flood, Cignetti, Hafley) a raise and still save money.

When all is said and done we will have a better game day coach and salvage over 90% of this great class. Time for a nice single malt to celebrate...

I agree, I think they got a great hire. How this works out to benefit RU I'll never know, but I think it did, which absolutely stinks for SU! :bang:

Well since they havn't officially come to terms yet and are only in negotiations(things could always break down) I'll wait till happy hour to celebrate...

Does the State of NJ have any say in the terms of the contract? It will be interesting to see the public reaction if he's getting $1.0 million or more to coach a football program that is losing money, particularly at a time when the state is pushing more of the costs of state-mandated educational programs down to the local municipalities.

LOL Rutgers has no money.

I think he is a very good hire for them. They get a guy who has head coaching experiance and is a very good recruiter with excellent ties to their primary area. Solid get for Rutgers. Lets see what happens with Owens and Glanton

Since when does NJ need to have money to spend it?

If i were a Rutgers fan I would be happy with the hire. It keeps the ties to florida. The current satff can continue to work nj for recruits. Cristobal is walking into the softest schedule ever. He will have every opportunity to succeed.

I agree, this is the best they could do given their circumstances. With two schools in the BE from Florida and a HC with strong ties from there, RU should be well positioned to battle USF, UCF, FAU and FIU for future recruits.

Agree. He was everything we were looking for and clearly our first choice. Pernetti deserves credit for being able to bring in a great hire(hopefully) in only a few days.

He also made a great hire in Mike Rice. Very impressed by him so far...

Rice has proven to be a great coach. However if he continues to scream and get worked up like he does, you better worry about him being around for a while. His BP must be around 270 at some points! Heart attack city baby!

Whatever!

Since we are likely to play RU in football and all sports exactly one more it's time to bid adeiu. Good luck becoming another Boise State.

From an FIU board (yes, they're out there):
Strong recruiter, isn't the greatest game day coach as he was out coached last season by fellow conference teams Ark State, and ULouisiana and struggled against Akron despite having a more talented team.
Sounds like Schiano, Jr..

Was he still your #1 choice?

I'm very impressed with the process, as well:)

Can one of these RU posts be tacked?
