Duke / Amazon broadcast deal

“The deal will include extensive NIL opportunities for Duke athletics and is part of a broader retail partnership expected to be announced at a later date.”

Must be nice.

The people who run SU allowed this to happen along with the academic ranking freefall. 10+ years ago we had a huge brand and were expected to compete with Duke and UNC. But one man and his feelings were given precedence. Hopefully we can dig our way out.

lol yeah it's Jabs fault. He was the reason Syracuse had a huge brand. Wildhack didn't have to hire Autry when anyone with a pulse and a working brain knew he shouldn't. keeping our fingers crossed they didn't make the mistake again with a new Coach who only has a couple of years experience and hasn't done anything of significance.

When Autry was hired, the brand was already dead. The 8 or so years of erosion under JB was precisely a major part of why we are at best, a middle of the road ACC program right now, with little hope of getting into the top 3-4.

The rich gets richer and keep finding ways of making themselves easily attractive to recruits. We are fighting a long uphill battle courtesy of the egotistical man who built the program but didn’t know when to walk away, and used the last few years to humor himself coaching his sons. Yes, I am very bitter and scorned.

Ahh yes because if we were winning 30 games like we did in 2012 or 2013 we would still get this deal like every other school in the top 10 outside of Duke

"Hubris, thy name is "SU bball fan"." Lol

Duke, not unlike Notre Dame, is Duke...power to them.
UConn has won more than any other program in CBB, and they can't get a sniff from Big 4 conferences, or TV deals like this one.
We need to worry about righting the ship, surviving CR, then perhaps w/ the new BB administration squad in charge of athletics, perhaps look for similar opportunities.
Were well positioned, IMO - just have to execute.

Ok sure, with Autry and oh yeah Gerry on staff.

How can they schedule a nonconference game for a Saturday in February? I thought it would have needed to be reserved for the ACC slate. Is that a courtesy the scheduling department would grant to everybody, or are we looking at another Tobacco Road special here?

I’m glad our school with top notch communications and sports management programs is being proactive on these new ways to monetize
You have to be wanted to be a part of something like this.

Seriously it’s amazing how far in front other schools are when it comes to making forward thinking decisions. SU has reacted and been late on just about everything. Gosh I can’t even get hot nacho cheese anymore and they know I’m coming !

Duke worked with the ACC and ESPN on future scheduling commitments in exchange for the ability to play these three neutral-site games, including participating in select ESPN-owned and operated neutral-site events in the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.

Good for Duke. Hopefully it will motivate other schools to start looking into unique deals, even if they can't replicate the same pay day with Duke being the top brand in CBB.

Now consider where we are as a program and how the gulf between the two programs has continued to grow apart.

Please respond with all the excuses after this post. Don't worry, Gavin Doty is potentially part of our backup PG solution.
