Duke / Amazon broadcast deal

can we be honest here and say that Syracuse would have had zero shot to make a deal with amazon?

Amazon likely only makes this deal with Duke to start anyway

Anyone groaning over Syracuse not being "forward thinking" is being silly. Takes two to tango

Don't you know...

Syracuse should have the same deals as Duke Basketball and Notre Dame Football.

And SU fans should get free ringside seats to MMA events.

Will Prime be required to watch?

How many people will pay extra to watch dook? I know I won't watch if they're not already on Youtubetv.

yes, i believe you'll need amazon prime. i have it so i catch a lot of pro games, like the yankees, on it. but i know a lot of people that don't have it and they're always pissed at the number of games amazon gets year over year. amazon prime customers will sky rocket in north Carolina.

Before we get ahead of ourselves thinking we can go big with ideas comparable to Duke, we need first to reestablish ourselves as New York’s team. Duke and UConn are the college teams that own the Garden, which was once ours, and other teams have taken over Barclays Center. The best we can do at this point is to find an open date in the MSG schedule to play against St. John’s, Georgetown or UCONN. We also need to get a game at Barclays. These games would be great for NYC and NJ recruits and for Alumni support.

In addition to the elite camp that we hold in Syracuse, why not have a similar event in NYC and get Kiyan and Carmelo involved (while we have them). If within NCAA rules, instead of the occasional overseas trip, we could play a few games in the tri-state area against smaller D2 schools to attract recruits. These type of events can help with recruiting, bring visibility to the program and an opportunity to engage with Alumni and drum up NIL support.

All that being said, winning is what will open up doors and make ideas and wishes come true.

I’m glad our school with top notch communications and sports management programs is being proactive on these new ways to monetize

Obviously it can't be Duke vs Syracuse in one of these games, since they are OOC matchups.

But imagine the blue blood in this Amazon deal was Kentucky instead of Duke.
Kentucky vs Gonzaga right now is more attractive to a promoter. than Kentucky vs Syracuse.

That is just where our brand / competitive level is right now. Gonzaga even without a history before 2000, has clearly surpassed us as a nationally recognized college basketball brand.

We have some work to do!

There are a few things that Syracuse should have been doing over the past few years. The biggest thing they should have done is play 1 to 2 games at MSG every year. (UConn played 6 games at MSG last year!) I have no idea why the AD didn't focus on that. Next, upgrade the OOC schedule. Outside of the Players Era and the ACC/SEC Challenge, the OOC schedule last year was Binghamton, Delaware St, Drexel, Monmouth, St. Joe's, Hofstra, Mercyhurst, Northeastern, and Stonehill. ACC basketball is not that strong, so you need to beef up the OOC schedule. Last year, Syracuse played 2 ranked teams at home.

There was nothing wrong with who we played. We had more than enough opportunity’s to win games. Everyone plays cupcakes at home. Duke and UConn included. Our schedule was similar to everyone else’s.

I agree, without question.

But if you put us in MSG against Kentucky, it’ll do numbers both attendance and TV.

I know that’s not what you were saying, but we do still have pull in msg and nyc.

The ACC was probably #4 in the P4, but they were fairly close to the other p4.

But the ACC really wasn’t a problem last year .. unlike 2023, 2024 and 2025. The gap was huge in those years.

Almost everybody in the p4 plays close to half their games against Q4 cupcakes, but subbing one game in MsG each year would make sense.
