Duke Gameday...

I'll leave it to others to debate the X's and O's. I'm not qualified to do that.

What I will say is that I saw a different team this weekend - hustling for loose balls, a coherent offense, smart (for the most part) play. Totally different team from the last few games.

Maybe the light bulb finally went on. It's been way too long since the last meaningful Memorial Day weekend. LGO!!!

Face offs, goal, ground balls all really good. I don’t think they failed to back up a shot all game. When that happens you should win.

Also, Unlike our other games when we scored less than 10 points, this game we actually got very good looks, just did not convert, so that’s a good sign going forward.

Also we went the whole game without a brain fart on defense (that we have been doing on a regular basis), until the last five seconds when Grace inexplicably left his man at the goalmouth to double a man 20 yards away! How do you do that?

My son lives 2 doors down from him in real life. His dog once got stuck in my son's backyard, lol.

I'm viewing from the same position as you in regards to X's/O's.

It seemed we were much better on rebounds after a McCool save than we have been recently.
Grace obviously comes to mind.

On the few face offs Mullen didn't win clean (mostly early?), wings helped much better.

My memory is terrible even for a few hours ago, but I think overall, clears went better than they have?

I feel better now about Gait saying they focused all week on GBs and clearing the week before leading into the UNC loss.
 
The team just saved Pat March from having to be the fall guy this offseason, with their performance in the ACCT.

i'd like to see more punishment in the crease. make it or miss it take a blow. rebounds have been an issue.
but very few goals scored from your backside . don't be nice . gotta pay the price.
 
FWIW Spallina posted an Instagram today that featured a pic of Leo with a sling on his right should. Not ideal, u do think he’s been playing through the injury for a while. But it does shed some light on his toughness

Bag of ice on his shoulder.

I ran into Kevin Drew and his dad Billy once after a game. You couldn't count the number of bruises he had from being slashed that day.

Yeah bag of ice as well but clearly in a sling. Like I said, I noticed it in the first Duke game when he was stretching out his shoulder so I think he’s playing through it. Just something I noticed

Shoulder looks pretty good hoisting the trophy!

 
yea leo’s shot has just seemed off or not a lot of power behind it. Actually now think he’s been getting mostly close goals or dodging in close goals. Hasn’t tryed shot on run or down alley much at all last few games. N hasn’t trying to snipe it much. Hopefully he can heal up and get to full strength as gonna need him to be on top of his game.
