Duke QB to Miami? Resolution reached

No issue with this if Miami negotiates a buy out with Duke. Just thinking they can pay $4M and move on isn't how it works. They are probably going to have to pay $10M to Duke. So this whole move will cost them close to $20M. No QB is worth that.

How about this: You can transfer once per BS/MS degree earned.

Force these kids to get a degree and limit this incessant transferring.
It wasn't the "kids" who created fake academic tracks at the schools.
The schools gave up the academic side years ago. Another thing blamed on players when they started making money.

Duke paid a mercenary and now they’re mad he’s going to the highest bidder? I wonder if people were this upset about him when he left Tulane high and dry?
Exactly. You paid him. He helped you win an ACC title and now he's leaving you. Timing stinks but not the kids problem. The wow is me it's not fair by schools and coaches is the biggest hypocrisy in this mess.

Yeah you knew once the reports came out that Miami was willing to pay a king's ransom to convince Ty Simpson to come to Coral Gables that it would get the attention of other college QBs. This has Miami's fingerprints all over it. That said, Miami has plenty of other spots to fill besides QB. They probably have nearly a dozen key guys that will either be out of eligibility next year or are leaving for the NFL (Mesidor, Bain etc.). Gonna be a pretty big falloff in talent next year at the U.

Honestly, it’s hard for me to throw shade on Mensah. No idea if this last minute portal move was calculated or if he was genuinely torn and waited til the last minute. I’ve never had millions of dollars being thrown at me.

Yeah, he had a contract, but plenty of pros under contract hold out to force a trade or get more money.

Yeah, it sucks for teammates, but just like in the pros, I’m guessing they all understand this is the business.

I blame the morons who let it get to this point with no regulation. Hopefully, with more situations like this one, somebody will create some order to the current chaos. Will be interesting if the NIL deals are iron clad for Duke or if they’ll find a loophole. The Washington QB failed. Maybe this one will, too.
This. I don't respect him, but I can't blame him. He's taking what the world is willing to give him. This is one more mirror of the current cultural climate. Selfish greed, no fear of being judged for nefarious behavior, just endure the fleeting moments of backlash and then laugh at getting away with it again as the world grows numb to every a-hole who will destroy things in order to get what they want.

I guess it's always been this way, but now it's more overt.

I have thought of different ways to do it, but it is also garbage that a football player has less transfer rights than an ordinary student.

I think the solution is multi-year contracts with buyouts. If it works for coaches, it can work for players
I'm wondering if that will simply make the rich richer.

It should but…there are no enforcement mechanisms.
Some Duke alum and season ticket holder who’s a state court judge could issue an injunction based on interference with their contract. Let Miami buy their way out of that too. Again these two hideous schools deserve what they are doing to each other
ACC l commissioner hiding under his bed. Cheering for this renegade program to win the national title. Go Hoosiers!

Well, I thought I was doing a pretty good job of understanding the inner workings of this new age, but if anyone can decipher this explanation of how this is legal, please enlighten me!

What an absolute joke this is right now. Miami buying him out for $10m like it’s nothing. Tampering obviously occurred. With these CFP payouts the halves will just get stronger. This needs to get fixed asap.
Part of this is the acc not having rev sharing for the playoffs like all other conferences. Miami got over 20 million. Using it to screw over another acc program. That will keep the conference together long term. Not.

The problem is that he left at the 11th hour and 59th minute before the portal closed. Duke had no opportunity to find a replacement. I hope Duke keeps his NIL money.
Thats what mercenaries do, they shouldn’t be surprised. Schools historically haven’t been loyal to players (we’ve kicked players out left and right this year) so we shouldn’t be surprised that players are not loyal either. This what the schools wanted it to become when they started paying kids under the table and wanted to be able to steal kids from lower level schools.

Would doing it this late in the portal period with the player under contract be tolerated in the SEC? Or is this what will push them to play conference games only as they've suggested and police tampering? I think it's been suggested earlier in this thread that Jim Phillips, the ACC Commissioner, is hiding under his bed. Would Duke sue him also for inaction?

And don’t forget Malachi Toney transferring to Cuse.

(Channeling my inner OiG with his Angeli to Syracuse predictions last year)
