Some teams love inexpensive backups, when they have long-term guys they've invested tons of money in. Didn't the Colts have some clown from Wisconsin as Peyton Manning's backup for several years, basically because he was cost-effective vis a vis the salary cap?

Ryan Nassib had a good run being that cheap QB behind the franchise QB.

So what kind of cash is this? I wish him well but don't think he will make the team. How much is he in line to make as an extra arm until Burrow gets back?

Not sure on the money side but the other QBs on the roster is Brandon Allen (Arkansas) and Kyle Shurmur (Vandy) after the Bengals traded former NC State QB Ryan Finley this off season to Houston.

Worse case he gets the Practice Squad spot best case he backs up Burrow. Dont see them carrying 3 QBS on the active roster unless the NFL allows for another exception because of Covid

I have watched almost zero NFL the last few years, but I would tune into a Bengals game just to see ED on the sidelines. Even better if they can figure out a Swiss Army knife role for him. Really hoping this can happen.

Would be great if Burrow wasn't ready for at least the pre-season and Dungey had an opportunity to show what he had in some game situations. Not sure he will show out better than the other guys in just pure passing drills but with the chance to show his running ability in real game situations that could really help him. He is just such a competitor and can just flat out get the job done. Great leader. Wouldn't be shocked at all if he surprised and beat those other guys out. And Cincy's line was not good at all last year. He would provide something those other guys don't.

Joe Burrow is "on track for full go" for the Bengals' opener, Dr. Neal ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Doctors do not want any contact until nine months, which could lead to Burrow sitting out the preseason.

Burrow is still going to get 90% of the snaps during the regular season but this should help Dungey get some opportunities to show off his skills.
The way people are talking around here, it’s highly likely that Brandon Allen is going to get the backup job but Dungey could slip into the #3 spot with a good minicamp and preseason.

It's all about moving the chains and putting some points up. I will be watching his stat lines each week. Hopefully he makes the most of his opportunities.

They have an "Open House" this Saturday that will allow fans into PBS for practice, will post some updates on the amount of reps he gets and how he looks, as others have said he has a great opportunity to get the 3rd spot at worst, personally I don't think Brandon Allen brings much to the table except his familiarity with the offense

So encouraged that Dungey was able to parlay that off-season minicamp appearance [as a warm body] into a tryout and being signed!

I've got to believe [based upon past history] that the Bengals will want to go as cheap as possible at backup QB, so hopefully Dungey has a puncher's chance of making the roster. There are a LOT worse things than holding a clipboard behind a #1 pick for a couple of years...

If anybody can achieve going from playing for no pay in a semi-professional league to clawing his way onto an NFL roster in four months, it's Eric Dungey. Not predicting he'll make the cut, but nothing would surprise me about how this plays out. He's on a roster that gives him more than a puncher's chance, across a variety of factors.

Allen will be the backup barring a horrific performance in preseason and/or if Shurmur or Dungey do something extra special. Allen proved capable in his handful of starts last season, finishing with an 82.0 passer rating. Shurmer and Dungey will likely be battling for a spot on the practice squad.
