Dungey is gonna explode Saturday

I don’t run stat numbers too often if ever so watch amount of times Td threw 20 yds or more and how many ED did. Everything except when he threw ball away 3x, were downfield balls. If ur a clear football knowledge guy than u can clearly see the difference and if u can’t well sorry I can’t help u but I can say if ur right and Ed starts and has a great game awesome cause we won and I am ok in being wrong. Simple examples are 5 yd wheel route to or out to Mo throws it to inside and behind almost making mo do a three sixty to get it and if he led him to outside it was a clear Td. Ok a five yd out ball. Then middle of game not exactly sure but threw behind Riley coming far across from field and I screamed to lead him as it was in front of 212 section and it woulda been a first down. Also the throw to Custis with half a step and defender on inside hip of Custis doesn’t Ed throw it 3yds outta bounds instead of dropping it in over custis’s head for another first down. The time he threw the ballinto double coverage to end Pitt game to a 5’8” guy and never looked at another receiver. If he isn’t hurt we ain’t talking about a change or TD at all because we would beat Clemson and Pitt. It’s a fact he is hurt . That’s my point. Nothing personal to u or him. Heart of a lion and balls as big as melons but a hurt arm which is hurting us. If I’m wrong I will apologize. Let’s go su.

Yes Dungey had a couple bad throws that he would want back. Every qb has them. These plays stick in your mind and forget all the great throws he made. With Diveto you remember all the great passes and forget the interception and the wide open miss to Harris.

Tommy has the stronger arm but that doesn’t make him the better qb at this time Dungey has more experience and great legs.

So let's have a 5/8th compromise. ED accounts for 5 TD's and TD 3. And there we will have our peace.

So at what point in the game could you say wow Dungey must be hurt.

Well I guess I dont have the replay in front me at this moment, but the inaccuracy of even throws to the back in the flat, I believe it was Moe...every time he got up and cringed...um, the lack of velocity on throws...

Sorry...I dont have the exact time.

This whole QB controversy thing will do nothing but motivate him. We’ve been watching this dude for going on 4 years now. How the hell does everybody not know this? I LOVE Devito and could not be more excited to have him now and the next few years but I’m still amazed how quick people jump off on great players. One of our greatest QB’s ever to play here and fans and local media talk about him like he is Nate Peterman or Blake Bortles.
See you guys back here around 10:45 Saturday night to gloat.

You're gonna start gloating midway through the 3rd quarter?

Dino's explanation for the qb position being the same as any other position to me is moronic. it is the most important position and one where more reps equal more accuracy/success. He needs to just pull this bandaid off and make devito the starter. The goal is wins. Devito is our best qb right now.

Make Devito an H back weapon and we'll be in business. Dungey is somewhere btw Dan Kendra and Tim Tebow in terms of quarterbacking. That is a warrior list but this offense needs a drew brees accuracy and an eye for downfield

He looks to be afraid to throw the ball dowmfeild like last year. Can’t say cause Ish was there because I have seen Custis open quite a few times and I’m not saying wide open just open and last year Dungey drops it in there for ish. Last year he always led Phillips with the ball and he would get good yac. He either lost his confidence or is hurt or both cause he is hurt. If he isn’t hurt how come he isn’t throwing for 60% percent plus. If U told me sat he throws for five Td and we win I won’t b leave u and then I will shiiiiit myself and bye u a beer or four. I truly don’t care w ho wins this game for us as long as we win.

Actually it has, you’re just pretending not to get it.

i get what your saying your just wrong. If these guys were pitchers Tommy would be the 98 mph fastballs with 4.6 era. Eric would be the 85 mph with era 1.2. Who is the better pitcher must be Tommy he throws gas and passes the eye test.

Yup. He's been very inaccurate. It's not just about completions. Its about getting the ball out quickly to the flat so receivers can catch and get up field without a defender breathing down their neck. Its about placing a ball out in front of a receiver where he can catch and run in stride, etc. Dungey has been terrible at these things this year. Just look at the FSU game. It's as good as an example as any.

My concern is that this passing inability causes the offense to lose its identity. That's why they have a couple really good series sprinkled among lots of What series. I think Dungey could be effective in the old, West Virginia, Rich-Rod style of RPO offense, but Dino has not shown that he is willing to commit to that (and I am not sure we have the line and RBs to play that way). Devito opens up the entire offense (you may have to be willing to sacrifice some consistency).

I'm ok with Dino if he decides to go with Dungey. It's obviously his call. But for the op to come here and pick a fight with posters who have concerns is just dumb.

Eh. Throw in that one pitcher’s ERA was inflated because he got bombed back in April with a triple A team in the field behind him, but was now locked in and pitching great recently while the other was coming off several straight bad outings.

And you’re still completing ignoring the yards per passing attempt, which is more important than completion %.

It still hasn’t been explained to me how our hurting Dungey has a completion rate of 58.6 and our great passing Devito is at 52.8.

Please don’t come back with stats cherry picked in fewer games.
We have games where we throw about 10 WR Screens and you want to use completion percentage as the single defining metric?

Nobody on this forum is a bigger Dungey fan that I am. I would LOVE to see him lead us to victory on Saturday, in this highly important game.

But all you have to do is watch footage of his play last year to see the difference in his throws. Last year, he had much more zip / velocity on intermediate / deep throws. This year, it's like his throws are in slo-mo. Something is physically impairing his throwing capability, and that's been the case most of the year.

The difference between his "zip" and what TD showed Saturday was palpable.

So, while I hope that Dungey brings it Saturday, per the OP, I want whoever gives us the best chance of winning getting snaps. What I don't want to see is a repeat of what we saw defensively against Pitt / UNC, with teams gambling with single coverage because they don't respect our ability to connect on deep passes, and bringing six every play to disrupt the offense, with 8 in the box to also make it tough to run.

May the best player win -- I root for the uniform, not just individual players. And if our best chance involves a rotation -- whatever, just win baby.

Agree!

You're sticking your head in the sand. Dungey hasn't just missed a few passes like all qb's do, he has been way off too often. If you can't see the difference with his passing between this year and previous seasons, it's because you don't want to or don't know football in the slightest.

On that point, I'd like to see what the YAC is with Dungey vs. Devito rather than completion % on these bubble screens. Devito has so much more zip in getting the ball out there than Dungey does, which I believe makes a significant difference. Dungey throws a seemingly large number of these, but more times than not, it appears they go for no gain or very little and we face a 2nd and 10 or 2nd and 9, etc. The lessor (sample size) amount with Devito at the helm, appear to be more productive.

2 passes where critics say Dungey made bad passes. One was in the first half and I think it was third and 9 and Dungey went long along the sidelines to Harris I think. The ball was at least 5 yards out in front of Harris?, but he either stopped on the route or was tied up by the corner. Dungey expected him to release and go long. Two was that wheel route to Neal where Dungey was trying to lead him but he kept going lateral instead of turning up field like he SHOULD have done on a wheel route. I also believe on those out passes he and Devito are being coached to throw it waist high as it is more difficult to jump and pick and tipped balls go to the ground instead of up in the air for a pick 6.

He can’t throw a pass into the ocean the last three games he should sit

Devito is faster than Dungey

Just not true. He has been streaky, often throwing 2 or three accurate on one drive and then being way off a couple series later. Go back and watch the tapes.
