Dungey - Productivity

in dungey I trust, but when he has a 100 yard game with 3 int's people better remember he is a freshman
It will happen, as it does to every QB... But, when you see enough good/promise it makes taking the bumps more tolerable.

I would be willing to bet that he doesn't have a game with three interceptions this year. I know we have had a small sample size but he doesn't seam to force plays. If the play isn't there he looks elsewhere or puts the ball down and runs. Like many have said, he is smart and understands the game. For me, the one part of his game that I like most, is his ability to run the play action. There have been many times where you couldn't tell if he handed the ball off or kept it. Impatiently waiting for Saturday and the butt whooping we are going to lay on USF.

I just want to go on record that Dungey has been an encouraging find on a lot of different levels, but he'll have a hiccup at some point, and that's totally OK and normal and something he can learn from and not something we need to freak out about.

So you're saying it happens to most guys and it's not something to worry about? (Asking for a friend.)

"The Sunshine Boys" or "The Sunshine Club" or "Rays of Sunshine" or...like...something to do with, I'm thinking, Sunshine?

"The Sunshine Boys: We suffer from excessive bouts of ED!"

"Vitamin D"

I hope the SUA marketing team is already thinking about how to make ED the face of the program in the off season.

Hey, why not? No pressure, kid!

Great post. If you extrapolate the potential numbers for Dungey for this next weekend, I think you'd be looking at four scores, two td's and two field goals.
I think your math is off by at least a TD. You have to figure SU will have at least 10 possessions.

I'm just trying to be conservative in guesstimation. USF has given up no less than 24 points this year to real teams and I think we'll get in the low 30s, like FSU and MD did. Our defense or special teams have accounted for points in every game and think SU's offense will score in the mid-20s. I'm the kind of statistician best described by "if you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle them with your BS" but I just think we're going to score and score more than USF. Their defense may be good but they've given up points, though not as many at home. USF could be our best offensive team of the year and hope they can be as disciplined on the road as they have at home. USF has had a rough stretch and SU should be healthy, prepared, and hopefully motivated. It's a great opportunity for the program to trend positive and this time we might take advantage.

I was truly impressed by Dungey. He looked to me like the best first year QB SU has had since I started watching SU football in the 1960's.

His field awareness, his vision and his timing (on the pitches) have been tremendous.

That being said, a little voice keeps telling me, "He just can't be that good". Now he may end up the best SU QB ever. But the probability is that he's going to come back down to earth.

Yep.

We gonna see you at UVa?

Of course 20 years ago it was McNabb's (redshirt) freshman year, your statement could still hold.

That's pretty much what I meant.

Following his frosh season I came to expect and perhaps take for granted his performances.

No single player since DM's frosh season has caused me to feel the kind of optimism that I am presently feeling because of Eric Dungey.

I can hear Shafer on the sidelines singing:
We got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it's cold outside, in the Dome we got the month of may
I guess you'd say
What can make us feel this way?
our Dungey, Dungey our Dungey
Dungey! talkin bout Eric Dungey.

Even without Dungey we scored more points against LSU than any of their other opponents...Mississippi State...Auburn...EMU (not by a lot though).

I really don't think this game is THE game of the season. I don't think we're going to lose this game, but it wouldn't totally surprise me if we did.

Dungey just might be a little off his game given the layoff and the whack on the head. I don't anticipate that'll be the case. And even if he is I think we're a better team than South Florida.

We could lose this game and still develop into a better than average team and win 5 of our last 7 games.

I'm not ready to discount the potential that this team has, even if we lose this game. (I don't think we will)

Aaron Rodgers wakes up every morning, looks in the mirror and asks himself, "how can I be more like Eric Dungey today?"
