Probably early next week. They are allowed a certain amount of practices before exhibition games start, so probably week of the 12th.

They get 10 practice days with the int'l trip. Yes freshman can participate as long as cleared by NCAA in time. It would appear that Roberson is the only one that might be a close call on this, but "sources" have been quoted in the PS as saying he'll be good to go.

I guess the other concern is that Roberson might be cleared in time to play up in Canada, but it might not happen in time for him to get the full 10 days of practices in. though obviously at this point I'd be thrilled as long as he got several practices in, plus playing in the games in Canada, and having everyone else healthy and eligible the whole time.

He would likely be behind the 8 ball in terms of playing time for the entire season if he misses these preseason practices and games. Considering he is already competing behind Fair, Grant and Rak for forward minutes, he is unlikely to play much as it is. If he doesn't get cleared til after the trip, he should probably redshirt. Won't happen, but he probably should considering the amount of time that will be left over for him.

Always wait to see what someone brings to the table before redshirting. If they are good enough to be a 3rd scoring option its tough to redshirt him as they can bring a mismatch or a awnser. And imo BJ, Roberson and Ron will all be that.

You're right, but don't even worry.
Not redshirting this guy.
Not even close.

On a related note, has anyone seen CJ on campus? Is he back and okay?

You only worry about saving a redshirt year when they will be their all 4 years. I would be a bit surprised if Roberson plays at SU for all of those. I think he is gone after a stellar Junior season, at worst!

As a follow up question, since return to the states from Canada requires either a passport or an "enhanced" NYS drivers license, who procides them for the students. If the school does, considering the wait involved to get either, does the school go ahead even if the kid hasn't cleard NCAA? Or is it that the kids are required to get these things on their own. Do most AAU players already have them as they may do international travel already.

I hope we see the offense run through Roberson alot before he goes. If not I don't think we ever got to see the true Roberson.

Unlike Fair, Donte, Kris, Nichols, Southerland in highschool Roberson utilized more half court guard play in a forwards body, and I see him utilaizing the bounce and attacking into traffic better then someone like Wes. Hes got a real solid post up leaning jumper/turnaround jumper that should translate into him pulling up off the dribble naturally pretty easily.

He just has to want it Bad!! I can't think of anyone better then Devendorf out there with BJ, Patterson, Ennis. Roberson needs to get out there with him and keep working on that hunger. And man oh man does he ever have a Beast second gear.

Watching Robersons clips I didn't quite get the feeling he was mentally ready to take over a offense completely in highschool. But, I got the feeling it was 100% in his skillset once he realizes he wants it! Same with BJ. Ron and Ennis on the other hand knew they could lead a offense. Ron got Nepsec player of the year because of it and Tyler was just beastly.

imo, This is a real special quadruplet in the making.

My guess is that it is a combination of the last two, with consistent follow-up and assistance from the school. I don't think that a school can actually provide students with a passport.

Mentally ready.
;)

Ready.
See if you can spot where he eats Kenturkey-bound Karl Town's lunch.
And dinner.

Evaluating players from full games------------------->cherry picked highlights. Tee, they don't know how good The Beast is I tell ya. Sucks that this academic situation got in the way because he would be whipping ass right now if he was up there on campus.

Man I hope he joins his boys soon. Hopefully within the week.

Could anyone breakdown Tyler Roberson's game for me? I've heard a lot of good things about him, but what exactly are his strengths and weaknesses? Also, what position is he likely to play? I would assume more 3 than 4.

Also, I really Cj has worked on and improved his ball handling this offseason. I feel like that's the only thing between him and being POY. If he can improve this aspect of his game, it will allow for him to create plays for himself off the dribble and for others. This will also help his draft stock since the majority of NBA scouts have told him this is what he needs to improve on if he wants to succeed in the league.

Here is a small thread from when he won the NJ state championship beating UK commit Karl Towns.

Also try to find Roberson commits, another thread from a while back.
Although he played 4 & 5 in HS, yes you're right. Will probably end up a 3 in NBA. Great low post array, has the outside shot but will use it more in the coming years. Gym rat, big time student of the game, comes from his AAU coach's colleague I have spoken to. Same guy who coached and predicted Kyrie will make it big thinks higher of Tyler, no kidding. Best rebounder in the state and could be said of most or all of the country. I've seen him block shots from 6'8 players to 7'1. Gets up in a hurry and has great athleticism, not sure why people don't yet get that. Tons of footage of him and very obvious. Dribble penetrates, taking bigger guys to the lane and he's come out on shooters on the perimeter when his team plays zone. I might have skimmed the surface, but all is true and not exaggerated, but find some clips and you will see. I have seen him spin in low post to the baseline and purposely bank it in mid-range. Scary and he got better by the game. Cue the doubters in 3, 2......1..... :)

Thanks appreciate the help Tee! Also, if you wouldn't mind helping me with one more thing. For some reason when I try to make a new thread it forces me to make a poll. Any help?

You got it. I would ask temery about the insta-poll. I never had that problem, but would assume it's a setting of your browser that can be configured to prevent from happening. Would you by chance be using chrome? Try to use Firefox if you can, but try to reach out to temery or see if there is a thread in the support forum.

Thanks, I think the problem was the browser that I was using. Everything is working now.
