Complaining about a number is so stupid. If this statement from his mom is not enough then I have no idea what planet the naysayers are living on. If anything it is a good gesture to show that we welcome Lampkin and value him highly. It makes him feel at home despite being a transfer. That more than cancels out any supposed negatives. 44 means nothing in basketball really. It hasn't been worn in almost 30 years. A bunch of drama about nothing.
It wasn't like we gave the number to Melo, Hak or Gmac after.
There never will be 3 and 4 year players like DC and Wallace who will wear that number and make it mean anything. They will go pro after a year.

The sad thing is when Red really gets this thing cooking in the coming years, you'll see these same disgruntled alums repping the program and wanting their SU praise again.
