Edinger

I thought we hired a nutrition expert last month?

Yes. And FCS programs have been having grad students run nutrition programs for ages... (at no cost, other than more quality food). Its kind of important.

With the pressure to win so great? I wonder if our 1's get so many reps in practice, that it contributes into wearing down their bodies. The byproduct would be 2's getting less development- in a developmental program. Its easy to point at E, but I don't think this falls squarely on his shoulders. Nutrition, how you practice, are things to be considered- and frankly, may be more important, imo.

Most schools have a football dedicated nutrition head, along with staff. At the p5 level. Its a step in the right direction and hopefully ww see dividends as early as next year.

I’m not a medical person, and I’m not going to deny we need strengthen our nutrition program, but I don’t see how that will result in fewer torn ACLs which has been our biggest problem.

Big movement catching on in the NFL to mandate natural grass field surfaces.

I think the ACL’s are a major issue itself.

We do look very fatigued and worn down each November, noticeably more than other teams/peers though. Thats nutrition, conditioning and wear n tear.

It hasn’t been mentioned much, and I’ll admit this too, we just got unlucky this year with scheduling too. We are hardly ever prepared to endure the second half of the year, but its extra bad this year finishing against ND, pitt, FSU and what Im predicting to be a physical/scrappy BC. Just not set up well for a team on its last legs.

A few of those are kids that had ACLs coming in. I wonder if thats a factor? It would be interesting to compare ACL's with other programs, but I'm afraid that's private medical info...

Baby Doll was down there cooking breakfast for them, for 50 years. (Its mostly just breakfast- for the kids that dont have to skip, and run to class.) And God Bless her for it. She did so with the same amount of love any team parent would do, and was much loved for it. Other than switching from bacon, to Turkey bacon? I wonder if there was other input, or if she was cooking like Mom would for 50 years? I have no idea. I imagine a 50 year old dining program might benefit from an overhaul. (Again. Not certain on that.) Baby Doll was much loved.

Take out for nightly meetings, "might" not be the dinner of champions.

Coach E might tell them to eat nuts, but when they see that they are $12 a bag? Are they gonna buy 3 bags of nuts, or are they going to buy pizza? Hint. Its pizza.

Nutrition goes hand and hand with S n C. Being over worked can increase the chance of injury. No SnC coach can counter those. Are they lifting, or conditioning too much in season? That, I don't know.

Wonder if protective knee braces should be standard issue for key positions. Especially ones with spikes on them.

What is his role on the sideline? He seems to be within a few feet of Babers all the time. Does he watch the play clock and alert Dino when it hits 5 or something?
He must be the timeout whisperer

Stefon Thompson got hurt because when he planted his leg, his body weight kept going and his shoe got stuck in the Cuse turf, tearing up his knee, if you rewatch the Lville game you'll see it.

Terry Lockett was engaged with a OL had his feet planted and his knee gave out, on the Cuse Turf...

Garrett Williams was trying to block for Jahad Carter when a ND offensive player ran into Garrett. Garretts leg got caught underneath his self because his cleat got stuck in the Cuse Turf.

Mikel Jones engaged in a tackle, cleat gets caught in the turf and other guys body weight twist his leg in a bad direction. Again on turf...

My problem with our S&C is that a lot of our guys haven't developed physically like they should, look at other ACC teams players transformation. Geer would be a dominant force if he was like 25 lbs bigger, same with Linton. Our OL is BIG but they aren't muscular big... Ellis I would've loved to see gain some muscle and drop some fat. Same with Dakota Davis and Bleich... Rob Hanna still hasn't gained any muscle which limits him, same with Barron.

The only guys that I thought developed physically in the offseason was Oronde and Sean... of course.

For all the talk about turf, Edinger, etc., it would help if everybody wore knee pads. Alford had to come out of the game after the play at the :20 mark:

It blows my mind they don’t. It should be mandatory.

I think they should change practice fields outside to all grass. When we played Pit it looked like we were on skates and they weren’t. Also would help with mcl, pal, and acl tears or micro tear.

In terms of OLine, there are no studies that indicate the braces they wear offer more protection.

Per NFLPA:
Specifically, players have a 28% higher rate of non-contact lower extremity injuries when playing on artificial turf.

Nutrition doesn’t but strength certainly helps

I do see the that their braces help strengthen the side hits they take. Especially oline cause they get rolled onto all the time. I just couldn’t imagine playing without knee pads either. I also think they should practice on more grass also.

Turf is the number one contributor to the significant rise in ACL tears. There have been multiple scientific studies saying as much. Until the leagues ban turf fields there will be no change. SU playing all home games on a turf field will continue to result in a higher percentage of ACL tears in comparison to Clemson, FSU, etc.

If people want to focus on one immediate change to reducing injury risk, start a campaign to remove turf from the Dome.

Williams got hurt when he got knocked down and a player fell on him with his knee bent in the air. Had nothing to do with turf.

And I think a lot or most of our players are jacked. Ever seen pics of them lifting or standing around in shorts and tshirt? Ever seen that pic of Tucker? Some players just can’t add a lot of weight. They showed Linton in the lockeroom and yes he’s thin but his arms are massive for a kid so thin.

Being jacked is cool and all but when you are outweighed by 50lbs+ its gonna start taking its toll. I would love to see our DL at the very least gain 25 lbs each this off season. And 10lbs for our LBs and DBs.

Thickness and bulk are protective layers that Edinger's program strips off. We look like high school kids compared to other ACC teams.

We’re smaller in a lot of cases because they are smaller when they come in.

Back in the 60's, didn't Gale Sayers' injury start a cry for artificial turf?

Our players are small. There is a big difference between being shredded and being jacked. With proper nutrition you will put on weight.

Edinger's job is to get our guys bigger, stronger, faster while keeping them healthy and on the field. That is what football S&C requires. Doesn't matter if you are a slow it down O like Navy or a speed it up O like Wake.

The football coaching shouldn't matter and the football coach shouldn't be involved in S&C. The coach is an expert at football not making kids more explosive.

???

If you are saying that they do so much more endurance than anyone else- like they used to when we played at tempo? Maybe you'd have an argument, but are we still doing that?

When you want bulk, do you want football players, or body builders? You can add bulk with a lot of 1 rep max's- but how many kids do you want to injure in the weight room? (2 or 3 reps max, with deloading at injury prone spots in the lift is MUCH safer- why E does it. Also teaches fast twitch, and application of strength)

You can make em all a little fatter, but are you forgetting that these are young men, having a college experience like any other young man? Maybe, just MAYBE, there are certain someones that they really want to look good for? (Happens all the time)

What would the suggestions be to bulk em up? Can't do 'roids. Maybe skipping conditioning would add some bulk, for some. Most of 'em are as jacked as their bodies will take.

Could a nutrition program, and APPLICATION of that program help? Yeah. Maybe, but it sure as heck isn't going to hurt. (Why schools have had them for ages)

I’m starting to wonder about the roids and what our peers are really doing.
