Elijah Robinson to Texas A&M

He's a really good guy.
I would love him to stay and just learn more about attacking offenses from Brown and new guy. Brown made Erob better already but not good enough. Football is an endless learning experience and he stays a few more and recruits at a high level with our dt and then can move on if he chooses.

I'd like to keep him in the new role. But I imagine that was a tough conversation between friends, so maybe it's best that he goes.

If he's just DL coach and helping Fran with some other things as an assistant, and he's fully committed, then that would be good for us. Assuming a new and experienced DC coming in who E-Rob can work well with.

At least if it's LSU, it's doubtful we'd be in any recruiting battles.

As the Oracle RichmondCuse said, this is probably good for all parties. Allows Elijah to reset his career trajectory a bit and allows us to not have an awkward power structure with a demoted DC still on staff. I know he gets a lot of hate (and the defense has been horrific so I dont disagree) but ERob seems like a great guy and I'm rooting for him!

We brought in 5 DL recruits this week. One being Alex Haskell who is a flat out 4⭐ stud. Not too mention kamron Wilson and Jarius Rodgers at DE. IF E Rob leaves that will hurt from a recruiting standpoint without question. He's an elite D Line coach and even better recruiter, you can't take that away from him.
Is he an elite d line coach? Our run defense was 108th in YPA this year and was 123rd last year. We also only had 18 sacks all season this year

And an elite recruiter yet it was often said that we didn't have the talent.
I don't follow recruiting, but there's definitely a dichotomy in what's been said here that's hard to resolve.

People spent all season trashing the DL. No talent, terrible scheme, etc. And yet losing Robinson would be bad because of his DL coaching ability and recruiting chops.

I don't get it.

TBH he would probably be smart to take a DL recruiter position again. His stock was super high at Texas A&m

Agreed. That way, his strategic limitations can be hidden amidst a more solid group of defensive coaches. And teams will willingly accept that, given his recruiting prowess.

The one thing I’m rooting Kiffin succeeds at is taking this guy off our hands.
It does present a solution for alot of headaches we have. I figured when he got demoted Fran was just going to send him on the road recruiting and get him out of town for awhile.

No big name DC wants to come in and play this sharing game ha.

I don't get it either. Possibly his recruits are over valued when they arrive on campus which wouldn't be anything new.

I don't think of it as "DL coaching ability." He's a great recruiter, who's limitations are offset on teams that recruit stud DL talent [like aTm and LSU]. When you have blue chip DTs who can stuff the run, and blue chip DEs who can get upfield and be disruptive, then your job as the DL coach is easier. We didn't have that kind of talent here, so his lack of strategic acumen / teaching got exposed. IMO.

It's like assigning someone on the staff to be a RB coach. Just somewhere where a coach who provides other value can be stashed, without messing anything up.

My question is does he take any of our players with him?
LSU just spent truck loads of money to buy out the old coach and get their new one but if they want one of our guys they will probably get them.

ERob could help create a pipeline to SU for kids buried on the depth chart at LSU.

I was excited to have him in his new role and doing what he does best, but it’s going to be hard to pass up the $ LSU is probably offering him. They aren’t playing around with the budget they gave Lane. With that said does he really want to go back down south and coach with Kiffin?

Everybody wins here. Cuse needs some money spent on the new dc.
I'd imagine his new position coach contract isn't DC money. Assistant coaches are typically on 2 or 1 year contracts, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

I hope he does stay. He's clearly an elite position coach and recruiter (as evidenced by LSU wanting him and Texas A&M and USC before that).
