Right, I was responding to the guy above that said it was breaking her commitment to leave mid-season.She's from Missouri I believe anyway so this was just a stepping stone.
She can easily be replaced by one of the people writing for the DO. I don't know why the P-S has to hire people from Missouri and Penn State, who don't really like SU or being here.I am with you. I never felt like she knew anything about football or Syracuse or cared to.
I believe the Old Scout would have appreciated Bill Orange’s revamped gridders.Or Arnie Burdick, oh wait.
Bring back Dave Rahme#BringBackStephenBailey
Ugh.She announced on the podcast with Axe that today was her last game covering Syracuse.
Bring back The Old Scout!I believe the Old Scout would have appreciated Bill Orange’s revamped gridders.
Or by nationally known Luke Radel, intrepid reporter for Citrus TV. That kid is going places. It would good to have someone who actually wants to cover SU sports & not just doing it as a way station to the next gig.She can easily be replaced by one of the people writing for the DO. She is from Seattle and went to school at Mizzou I thinkShe's from Missouri I believe anyway so this was just a stepping stone.
Yeah she should have got the AxeI didn't Leiker anyway...
That’s why she didn’t give us votes. Integrity.… i do believe she did her job well.
So in your world , she can never leave a job. SMFH.I don't agree. It's breaking an agreement whether legal or just with your readers, who in reality provide you with the opportunity of your current job.
If he is going places, why hire him. He’ll soon be gone. Syracuse is not “places” when it comes to sports journalism as a career.Or by nationally known Luke Radel, intrepid reporter for Citrus TV. Because Citrus TV is “TV” and not “Print.” They’re two very different skill sets.Or by nationally known Luke Radel, intrepid reporter for Citrus TV. That kid is going places. It would good to have someone who actually wants to cover SU sports & not just doing it as a way station to the next gig.
Yeah, we’ve been vey lucky to have Mike and Donna stick around Syracuse on the basketball beat for so many years. Their knowledge of the program, its history and the game is invaluable. If he is going places, why hire him. He’ll soon be gone. Does he cover sports?Or by nationally known Luke Radel, intrepid reporter for Citrus TV. That kid is going places. It would good to have someone who actually wants to cover SU sports & not just doing it as a way station to the next gig.
Totally agree. I have to believe profit margin dictates the hire for her position. My guess is that it will be a revolving door with entry level writers passing through.Yeah, we’ve been vey lucky to have Mike and Donna stick around Syracuse on the basketball beat for so many years. Saying goodbye to Syracuse
The first 48 hours I spent in Syracuse, it pretty much snowed non-stop.
It was late-March 2022, and, to steal a college football term, I was on my official visit with Syracuse.com/The Post-Standard.
Everyone kept telling me the semi-blizzard at that time of year was uncommon.
I could tell they were just trying to make me feel better. It didn't deter me from giving my verbal commitment at the end of the visit after walking against Arctic-level winds to grab a beer before leaving town.
Less than two months later, I packed up days after graduation and drove the 13 hours from Columbia, Missouri, to the Salt City, moving myself even farther across the country.
That's something people tend to remark on – how far I am from home (Washington state). How hard that must be. How I must miss my family.
I've always been very independent, but, like I think it is for most people, my post-college move was difficult. There were no built-in friends. I did miss my family, a lot.
Slowly but surely, though, I found a community here. Or rather, it found me.
There was Donna Ditota, urging me to come out to trivia with her and all her friends. Dennis Nett asking me about myself and my family while we were on the road together. Brent Axe bringing me Thanksgiving dinner when I didn't have any plans my first fall here. Annie Hayes, who I just clicked with.
And there was all of you, too, embracing me near immediately, save for the few folks on the message boards who got upset about a joke I made that Newhouse was "enemy territory." (M-I-Z!)
Of course, the 6-0 start to that 2022 season and "Emily Leiker era" probably made that embrace a bit easier to extend.
But I still felt that support through the difficult questions the back half of that season forced me to ask, the saga of LeQuint Allen's lawsuit in summer 2023 and then, of course, Dino Babers' final season and the transition into the Fran Brown era almost a year ago.
Just like the football, things weren't always pretty. There were mean emails, weird comments, rough weekends. However, the scales always tipped toward good.
This job allowed me to be very selective in when and where I took the next step in my career. I know midseason isn't the ideal time for a departure, but this was an opportunity I knew in my core I couldn't pass up, no matter how hard it would be to leave the 315.
All of this is to say: Thank you for reading my work. Thank you for listening to the podcasts. Thank you for engaging whether it be for fun or with constructive criticism. And thank you for all the kind words since I announced I was leaving.
I am so happy to have met people like Caroline Dunn (aka "I Miss Eric Dungey"), Rockin' Ron, the newly wed Horwitzs and so many more of you throughout my time here.
I will always think back on this period of my career so, so fondly, and Syracuse will always be a home to me.
And I'll have my eye on the Orange the rest of the season, crossing my fingers that Chris and Brent somehow get to go to the Pop Tarts Bowl.
