Emily Leiker leaving

Seems strange to me for a sports beat reporter to leave their beat during that sport's season. Doesn't seem ethical to me no matter how great the opportunity. Keep your commitments first. Other opportunities will then open up. Very strange timing.

Does she also give up being a voter in the AP poll? Maybe it'll go to someone who will vote for us.

If you have the slightest familiarity with the state of reporting jobs, when an opening like this becomes available you grab on tight with both hands and don’t let go.

Absolutely nothing unethical about it at all.

Commitment? Trust me, her employer would fire her in a heartbeat at any time. That’s the world of media today.

I don't agree. It's breaking an agreement whether legal or just with your readers, who in reality provide you with the opportunity of your current job.

What? She’s a sports reporter, probably an at will employee. ZERO obligation to stay. People leave more important jobs in the middle of projects everyday.

Good for her to move up so quickly. It’s not easy for a young person, especially a woman, to climb the ladder. At 24 she’s just a kid. I think she did a very good job for someone so young. I hope the next writer has more experience but I get it it’s a stepping stone position

Ummm no.

I’m not the biggest fan of Emily, but this is such an old school way of thinking. Employers today will fire someone in an instant. There is no loyalty to anyone anymore. You get a better opportunity you take it without thinking twice.

Agree. I'm a little surprised an NFL beat is open in the middle of the season, but don't blame her at all for jumping on it.

Glad we helped her move up the ladder and get a better gig. I liked her I can't stand the barstool frat boy sports media types so she was a nice change of pace.

So few of these jobs around that we should find a younger up and comer quickly.

Eh, it’s a job. good for her. She is executing her career path goals. Life will go on for us. Plenty of folks are capable of beat writing. Hell I watch Fran press conferences and get the same content they do.

Vikes seem set at the position?
