Anyone using the 2018 season as evidence that Dino is a great coach is being absolutely Rutgerian...
Win:
10 - a neutered WV team without its NFL draft pick QB, WR, and OT
HC with a plane ticket to Houston in his hip pocket.
9 - a 40% AJ Dillon for 1 quarter, then no AJ for the other 3.
8 - a mutiny roster against a lame duck psycho coach.
5 - overtime win at home against worst team in the ACC. We also never even get to overtime if their starting TE catches a 6 yard 1st down pass that I could catch 9 out of 10 times.

It was a great season, where all the dominoes landed perfectly for us. A once in a generation alignment. But to say Dino is a great coach because of 10 wins, c'mon...

Ok

Dino himself said it best before the season. He hasn't done as good of a job as a 10 win coach, but he's been better than a 4-8 coach. I agree with him.

Book is stil out IMO, P got 10 wins too, then did nothing the rest of his career. Here's something that doesn't get brought up enough IMO....Early success as a HC, two stops, each stop successful within 2 years. SU successful within 3 years. Nobody and I mean nobody has ANY clue what Dino's ability to build a program is. We know he can turn things around with another guys' players. We don't know if he can BUILD a winner. There is no evidence either way as this is his first attempt. What's happening after the 10 win season is VERY relevenant to the direction of this program.

Yeah P got 10 wins, and then he did it again. Oh yeah, then he did it a 3rd time. Wait, he also got 9 wins, then again, and again. It seems this post isn't really holding up to scrutiny. How it got 2 likes is a mystery to me.

Using that logic, did UNC really beat us on Saturday? It goes both ways, right?

Coach P and Dino are in the same conversation. That is they are the best two HC since Mac. Marrone is close but got a gift in his 2nd year schedule-wise. Might be the easiest in our history with Big East/ACC.

What should be sinking in - is that this job is hard and good to great seasons should not be asterisked. Ever.

Because you completely missed the point and others didn't? You can get 10 wins and then something happens and you can't get back to that level of success. After 2001, P couldn't get it done anywhere. 10 wins doesn't guarantee another 10 wins. Simple enough? Or how about Dino had success at 1 school, then he did it again, then he did it again, just like P's 10 wins seasons that STOPPED! Whoa, you mean Dino might now always be a winner just because he was once? Whoa...

It also lacks context. P didn’t take over a dumpster fire roster. Quite the contrary actually when you look at what P inherited. Also comparing Dino’s tenure to what P did is not a great comparison considering Dino is just starting his 5 season and P has 14 years to look at.

If you think Dungey, Erv, Ish, etc was dumpster fire roster then you have issues.

Be honest, would you take that "dumpster fire roster" today?

I know I would.

You can also add Zaire to that list, so 4 of the 85 scholarship players weren’t dumpster fires...great. Also, Dungey went down on each of Dino’s first 2 seasons, if he plays full seasons who knows how those season finish.

So, you're basically cherry picking to fit your narrative. Some seasons count and some seasons don't. Got it.

Again you missed the point so I will take football of the equation. Just because A happened in the past doesn't guarantee that A will happen again in the future. Sometimes A becomes unattainable for any number of reasons.

I would not. The D was ranked somewhere in the 100s. Replace Devito with Dungey on this years team and we’re a top 25 team. There, i said it.
Not without WRs on the edge that can win a 50/50 ball. We don't have that. You think Dungey throwing to Harris would be any different. It wouldn't. There I said it.

Eh. You play to win the game. With the exception of their QB sitting out, WVU was still the WVU team we saw throughout the year.

Louisville quitting on Petrino doesn't take away from the trouncing Syracuse gave them along with the rest of the ACC. Football is one of the few sports where half assing it can result in you being seriously injured. They were just bad and a mess specifically at QB.

UNC was much like Louisville. Had the talent but couldn't finish. The UNC that beat SU this past Saturday has a number of guys from that team on their roster.

You beat whoever is in front of you. The stars aligned for Syracuse that year. They should have beat Clemson in Death Valley.

I see your skepticism and I raise you these points:

- Clemson win at the Dome with basically same roster
- Near win over Clemson on the road
- Win over Virginia Tech at Dome two years prior

He has flashed enough to buy some time. Just need a better OL & QB, either or. Or both.

I would have gone with the terrible seasons around the 10 win season, not trying to nit pick the wins in the only good season
