Eric White

OK.. so simple question then, Do you believe that this position in which "countless other programs in the country had" is a position of importance?
Do you think EW filled that position successfully?
I would say yes to both questions, implying losing a guy who filled a position successfully that we lost sucks, which was my OP. pretty simple man
He filled the position successfully because he was given the title of Director of Recruiting Operations. It doesn't mean that he was any good at the job. Football is a results based business and I didn't see us with any four or five star recruits walking through the door of Manley. He was visible, which fans like. That doesn't mean he was good at his job.

well obviously a title for a position does not automatically mean you are successful, but if you think it was his job to bring in four or five star recruits you are very misinformed. Lets get it straight, the guys our staff recruited whether they were 1 star or 10 stars he was to keep in contact with via social media in an effort to constantly plant the SU seed. being able to talk the lingo and be creative from basically a marketing and advertising stand point is where he excelled. Once again Yes there are others that can do this. But to say he didn't do a good job because our staff didnt bring in 4 or 5 star recruits is crazy,,, how many 4-5stars have come to SU in the past ten years (im sure someone will look that up) I bet its not a lot, probably 5 or 6 total. Does that mean every single football related position filled in the past tens years was completely unsuccessful?

I could do his job easily. If you have any experience working with clients and using photoshop that's all you really need. He was a good point of contact for recruits but if you think that he's irreplaceable I don't know what to tell you. You don't even need to pay someone to do that job. Just find a graphic design intern and you're golden.

In all honesty, and all kidding aside, I don't think you (or less pointedly "just anyone") can do it. It takes an unassailable confidence and positive attitude. It takes a "never say die" mindset. You and many of us like you tend to be a little negative toward our chances of tying down that elusive high star recruit. You are maybe more of a realist. That can be great, but cannot exist in a role like the one EW held. This isn't a knock on you, I am only trying to emphasize that while yes, his skillset is replaceable, it is not just a plug and play position for anyone who knows photoshop or illustrator. Graphics, youth to connect with youth, outgoing nature, always positive and always confident you can win. Also must be willing to learn the culture of the school and program. A true salesman. I promise you there are plenty of graphic designers who graduate from Syracuse having not gone to a football game and not caring that is the case.

He essentially took SU Football from 1980 to 2014. Now we need someone that can successfully differentiate ourselves from every other program in the country. Everyone does the same thing, who will have the next great idea?

Hopefully our new staff can create something that will do that, but if they don't, it's not hard to replicate what every other school is doing now.

I am seriously this guy was replaced by Dino Babers version of Eric White. I wish him well in the future because he worked for our school hard but my god this loss is nothing.

Also I will take Dino Babers band all day long over what we had.

you know whats great about this board, is there is a search function on here. not to long ago you were basically sucking EW off just in case you forgot "Great job and major props to Eric White and DeAndre Smith those guys effort have produced the highest recruit commitment in over a decade. Now the question is who is next?" pretty funny to now see you say "god this loss is nothing" once again how easy people turn...

I think it's an important position.

I think he filled it successfully.

I don't think he's irreplaceable. I think he's a dime a dozen.

Hope that helps!!!

I will say it was good he got the staff on Twitter and got some fans a bit more excited because they had more of a window into the program.

Besides that, he didn't really do anything of note. Every other major college football program had an Eric White before Syracuse. Good luck to him at Maryland.

And that was McD followed by Acosta. White was never the recruiting DIRECTOR. White was director of creating Memes and Twitter posts. Eventually Director of having others do that with him (see Cole Dial). As I said in a prior post, I think he can be replaced, but I think the apathy or dismissal by you and others is simply because you don't understand and are overestimating what his role was. He is a 30 year old kid from Kansas. He was helpful in publicly promoting the program on social media. That is a role and a facet that we didn't have prior to him. Thank you and Good luck to him (but not so much that he presents a challenge to us).

How old are you? You do realize kids as young as 12 are all over IG, Twitter and Snapchat right?

the point I was making is it is easy to search what we have all said on here. Praise someone one minute for contributing , slam him the next because he is leaving, its sad and pathetic.
So by saying he can be replaced, somewhat easily, is slamming him? I know at least 15 people off the top of my head that could do his job just as well as he could. Hell I bet we have that many on the board alone. Thanks for your service Mr. White and bringing Syracuse into the 21st century. Next dude up.

What the hell are you talking about. I have him credit for doing his job when we got Washington to commit but Eric White is not a big loss. Many people can do his job is the freaking point. He is support staff not one of the top coaches.
Good god I get plenty wrong but saying Eric White can go and be replaced easily isn't one of top 1000 ridlicious posts.

isn't one of top 1000 ridlicious posts.
"ridlicious"? Now this one might be. ;)

P.S. you must've had at least 1000 posts about the MetLife series alone...

In the end it likely "only" cost SU 1 game against USC and one game against ND.

Ridlicious!

I don't see what my age, or the comings and goings of twelve year olds has to do with Eric White's former role at SU, or my post. I was only saying that no matter how easy some people think his job is, and want to irrationally blame him for our lack of 4&5 star recruits, he did something for us that wasn't done prior to him and rather than tell him good riddance, I say thank you even if what he did is no different from every other school. When Roy Wittke was announced I saw a lot of posts suggesting he was too old. Although not impossible by any means, it seems replacing White may be a little more involved than grabbing any twelve year old on the block. I'll focus on the subject of the thread and leave the twelve year olds to you. I'm too old for them.

Really starting to hate Maryland.

Is it finally time to start a "Is Maryland our Rival?" thread?
I see our rivals as UMD, WVU, BC, and Pitt. After that, things turn into one-way rivalries quick (i.e. ND and Miami or RU and UConn going the other way).

We hardly ever play MD. We don't play WFVU anymore. How can either be rivals?

Huh? We've played UMD ~40x and we literally have a trophy game against WVU. UTexas and A&M don't play anymore nor do Pitt and WVU and (almost) Pitt and PSU.* Are they all not rivals?

*Pitt and PSU play in ~2020 after a 20-30 year gap.
