We have MD on the schedule in 2019. That's it. We've played them 4 times between 1990 and now. Hard to call that a rivalry. WVU? When do we play them again? They used to be a rival. Not anymore. Colgate used to be a rival. Not anymore.

If you don't play a team regularly, IMO, they can't be a rival.

My definition of a rival -
  1. A team you play regularly.
  2. A team you would give anything to beat. Anything.
  3. Related to #2, a team that if you lose to them, it ruins your day/week/month.
Sadly, we do not have a rival anymore. One of the costs of ensuring our future in the ACC. Will we develop any rivalries? I sure hope so.

West Virginia is the one I'll miss the most. I sure wouldn't want to attend a game in Morgantown, but I always enjoyed beating them. I wish we played Virginia Tech annually.

He did well with the social media thing. But the responsibilities and expectations were far more than that. He wasn't as successful at some other things as the Recruiting Director. I see MD didn't bring him in in the same role.

He was the director of recruiting operations at Syracuse. Bobby Acosta was the Recruiting Coordinator/Director.

Not saying he wasn't successful in certain areas of his job. But he wasn't the recruiting director at Syracuse.

Any definition of rivalry which says ND - Michigan, Texas - Texas A&M, Pitt - PSU, and Pitt - WVU aren't rivalry games is ... controversial.

I don't know what else to tell you. There's probably someone who agrees with your definition, but I doubt there are many.
 
Reading responses, it seems as though the role is important, and he was good at it. However, the difference between being good and average isn't very impactful. So, as long as we have *someone* reasonably qualified (which is reasonably easy to find), then we should be fine and any loss would be minimal.

Assuming that I don't materially misunderstand one or both sides of the argument, I don't see what the big fuss is about :/

It was a crap deal. Stop defending it. It was what midmajors would do. We lost the USC game and cost us 2 ND home games 2014 and 2016.

You can defend that crap deal and try saying its not a crap deal. If we argued this case in front of a factfinder I would get summary judgment on your side. It was a terrible deal. Teams in P5 conferences don't make those deals and guess we pulled out of it.

To be fair it was a cheese for me and I am not disciplined enough to let the cheese go. My post that generated the comment was obvious as I said saying White isn't a big loss isn't one of top 1000 crazy posts.

It should be said that when we made that deal we were not in the P5 and we kinda were a midmajor and short on cash.

its just a matter of opinion and how culture has placed value on social media. this thread shows obvious generation gaps, 10yrs ago this would not even be a topic, today however it is a topic because there is an importance on social media, why else would we have the twitter army? whether you like it or not EW position better be filled by a competent kid that gets the lingo and can connect. EW was the first interface with these guys after the coaches brought the recruits to him. The guy that replaces him "cole dial" or whoever it is better be up to the task. Its not just making fancy backgrounds or editing videos.

and to reply to PAcuse "So by saying he can be replaced, somewhat easily, is slamming him?" No saying he can be replaced is not slamming him, if you would follow along you would see I quoted Alsacs in his comment "God this loss is nothing" which yes is slamming him.. I just think its funny how many band wagoners are here. Literally most of this board was blowing EW, talking about how amazing he was, how much value he added ect ect, the kid announces he is leaving, and everyone says ohhhh I can think of 15 idiots that can do that job... So yes, sad and pathetic are those who turn.

This board also think we have turned the corner hundreds of times. Why? Because we are fans we defend our own and spin things when they aren't good.

Eric White did a good job I said I wished him well because of that but his loss is such a minor blip on the radar it isn't even worth being disappointed about. As discussed Bnoro could be hired tomorrow and do just as good a job. I would compare White to like a paralegal in my office. They are all really good maybe my favorite one fits what I like better but if she left tomorrow I wouldn't say my office is screwed as the other paralegals are just as good I just need to develop a more personal relationship with the new one.

White is not a big loss. He did his job well but other losses would hurt the program way more.

I don't think I'm sad and pathetic, I think I'm just being a realist and not a sheep. So for the 3rd time...

Syracuse was in the 1980's in social media until White got here. Now we're in 2014. White was praised by Robert Washington which may be why you have such an inflated opinion of him. But outside of tweets that any of us could do, and putting together some photoshops that weren't really that hard to do means nothing.

How do you know White could connect with every kid and not just RW? You don't. Kids shouldn't be favoring a school because of administrative staff. It's not an important position if the coaches knew how to properly use it. Marrone/Shafer and crew weren't good at it. Babers' staff appears to be very adept.
