ESPN alert just said Babers playing 2 QBs

It's remarkably unremarkable. Losing Amie for whatever reason (I forgot and don't really care) didn't help. But it's been a deeper problem than that.

Having 3 scholarship guys who've spent at least a year in the system, 1 who has spent a couple years in an SEC system, and 1 true freshman who they really like must be so confusing.
They missed out on the UNC kid who went to South Florida too.

I don’t know if they just are super picky for too long and then go with scraps or what it is. But it’s been an issue their entire tenure.

Hopeful this year.

We've gone around on this many times and you know where I stand on Dino, especially his record, devoid of all context. Feel free to re-read those exchanges.

I love the Robinson straw man argument. I wasn't posting back then - I came on when some had gone soft on Marrone after the loss to Cinci in 2018. I ... called for more context lol. But if you want to have a good argument with a fictional version of me during the GRob days, have at it.

I also didn't say Dino was infallible. He's made mistakes every year he's been here. He might be making one now. I just don't think he's the kind of coach that is quick to make decisions and not think things through. I think he's wide eyed about the situation. The guys does not panic. I also don't think he's some young up and comer in the business where he's terrified of losing his job. He can find a coaching job in 100 different spots with all of the connections he's built up.

Keep up, Mr.Pyle. Going to be a long season.
wide eyed like a deer in the headlights. made mistakes is charitable for him. acc has been a eye opener for him. i hope he has better luck developing players than he has recruiting.

The backup options appear better than any Dino year except perhaps the year where Tommy was the backup.

2016, 2017 - Mahoney who was a walk on. With a bit of Auston Wilson and Culpepper, who sort of felt like walk ons.
2019 - Welch, walk on.
2020 - Culpepper, and then a true freshman whose only other offers were Jackson State and Austin Peay.
Yep

the qb group is unprecedented in the history of the program. Two upper class four star, two lightly regarded but big upside 2nd year freshman, a three star freshman, and a 6-4 230 Pwo second year freshman.

Devito is clearly a level above the others passing, but the group as a whole is better than anyone else at the position other than Nassib and dungey.

dino has done a very good job building the qb unit. Very solid depth, the floor is much much higher, class balance is excellent. They can afford to be very selective in how they recruit now. Certainly risk that kids can jump ship, but all you can do is manage that the best you can and try to keep players sold on the program.

The player friendly transfer policies make it likely that someone will test it. But that’s ok when you have 5 on the roster.

But I also think they have to avoid being overly selective in recruiting if they don’t have a good feel for a kid joining them.

It’s a new world we all need to get used to.

We have quantity at QB. Do we have quality at QB?

Compared to who? I’d say compared to our peers in the ACC (not Clemson), we’re middle of the pack. Tommy was top half of the conference in 2019 by stats (and the bottom in wins, read what you will). Shrader is a guy who could play at any of our peers. Lamson had good offers.

If we don’t have more quality, then it might be a question of QB development on the staff. I know I’ll take Gilbert as their position coach over Martin (but thankful for his son’s excellent season at OT).

I think we easily have more quality than 2019 and 2020.

Relative to college football? I actually think we are pretty decent.

the captain appears to have worked with a swing coach, his mechanics were so much better was throwing very well. Dillion wasn’t far behind.
