ESPN alert just said Babers playing 2 QBs

Shrader didn't come here to get jerked around.
No.

he probably came here because he wanted to go to the worst then P5 team he could find hoping to start….and it was Cuse.

there is just as much chance he will suck as bad as the last big QB transfer we had…as there will he becomes Jeff Hostetler.

Big difference is Allen had never really played in games before he came here. Schrader has already gotten substantial playing time in college football. We’ve got more to go on, when being hopeful about him.

My bad: Mississippi St……Quarterback U.

Oklahoma, no good QB play there…

I thought the Jets HC comments and actions were interesting in regards to preparing the QB for real-game pass rush pressure.

But this summer and this season are more about Wilson and his development than anything else. To that end, the Jets tailored their practices toward testing him and making sure he and the offense found a rhythm. Instead of the normal amount of 7-on-7 periods, when there are no offensive or defensive lines, the Jets did more 11-on-11 so Wilson could feel the pass rush. Saleh feels that has helped not just Wilson, but the entire offense.

“For us, when you’re looking at 7-on-7, even 1-on-1s, they run routes that take forever,” Saleh told The Post this week. “In 7-on-7, the quarterback is going to hitch a little longer because there’s no pressure. You lose touch with the timing of the play because you don’t feel pressure. Having that rush and helping him understand, ‘Hey, bud, you’ve got one hitch. The second hitch is on you.’ For him to feel that timing, I think has been very helpful.”

TD proved he can play well with protection, but is not a running QB without protection.

Schrader has played and can run but lacks TD's arm.

I think Dino's decision will be based much more on how well the OL plays than either of the QBs. If the OL is good, TD can pass all day. If not, Schrader's escapability traits will be needed.

I honestly don't care who wins the job or if both have a great season so long as SU is in the W column.

Exactly. TD has no pressure of getting Killed in practice. He can comfortably let his arm do its thing. that hasnt happened during the season since he has been starter. The OLine is the key for him. If it middle of the ACC pack he should be comfortable enough to do his thing. If its not, then Schrader will need to take over the starting role quickly. You can look around in both the college and pro levels and see top level QB's take a nose dive when they dont have any protection.

i believe this is typical of what to expect from dino---unable to make a decision. shrader said it best give it to one guy and let him run with it.
ok, so he goes with td, it better be a short leash.
i lean toward shrader --sounds like he can make decisions annd is dual threat.

"Unable to make a decision" ... yeah a guy at his level of coaching with like 50 years experience from a military family? Cmoooooooon

I'm ready for the season, let's go Tipp

C'mon yourself. It's entirely and I mean ENTIRELY possible that Dino, being in a situation he's never been in(losing)(Struggling QB), might be 2nd guessing himself and actually having trouble with this decision. Dino is not infallible. You were probably one of they guys who thought Grob deserved a 3rd or 4th year because you know, he's an NFL and college coach so must know what he's doing right? I can't remember how many times I heard that when I was calling for him to be fired after year 2/3. Dino has had 1 winning season in the last 5 years. He's probably 2nd guessing everything at this point. He is in his own version of no man's land.

We've gone around on this many times and you know where I stand on Dino, especially his record, devoid of all context. Feel free to re-read those exchanges.

I love the Robinson straw man argument. I wasn't posting back then - I came on when some had gone soft on Marrone after the loss to Cinci in 2018. I ... called for more context lol. But if you want to have a good argument with a fictional version of me during the GRob days, have at it.

I also didn't say Dino was infallible. He's made mistakes every year he's been here. He might be making one now. I just don't think he's the kind of coach that is quick to make decisions and not think things through. I think he's wide eyed about the situation. The guys does not panic. I also don't think he's some young up and comer in the business where he's terrified of losing his job. He can find a coaching job in 100 different spots with all of the connections he's built up.

Keep up, Mr.Pyle. Going to be a long season.

Straw man better than Wicker Man(Not the Bees!) lol. You weren't posting back then? Good thing for you, was not a pretty place around here. Yes I know you're feelings on Dino, I think they cloud your judgement sometimes. Fact is, guy's struggling as far as W-L, you can put an asterisk or exclamation or question mark or tilde on it for all I care, he's still only had 1 winning season here. I had a rough year too, I work in IT. Been doing it for over 20 years. Pulled rabbits out of hats. This past year I made 3 minor stupid errors that resulted in major incidents for my company. I started to doubt myself a bit at that point too. Not that you care but I'm back on the horse and got my mojo back. Here's hoping Dino can do the same.

Ha! Don't let my grumpy, semi-arrogant, argumentative self fool you. I'm rooting for the people here, no matter how much I might disagree with them about dumb sports.

Good for you, man. Same here. Tough year for many.

Here's to some wins this year, as in plural ;)

seriously?

It is also nice to know that (pending what we see on the field) we have someone behind him...or that we have Tommy behind Shrader. Either one.

The backup options appear better than any Dino year except perhaps the year where Tommy was the backup.

2016, 2017 - Mahoney who was a walk on. With a bit of Auston Wilson and Culpepper, who sort of felt like walk ons.
2019 - Welch, walk on.
2020 - Culpepper, and then a true freshman whose only other offers were Jackson State and Austin Peay.

To me this is more damning than Dino’s W/L record.

It's remarkably unremarkable. Losing Amie for whatever reason (I forgot and don't really care) didn't help. But it's been a deeper problem than that.

Having 3 scholarship guys who've spent at least a year in the system, 1 who has spent a couple years in an SEC system, and 1 true freshman who they really like must be so confusing.
