Ok tech guys:

1. I have access to ESPN3
2. I'm not in a Blacked Out area this weekend
3. I'm too tech stupid to make ESPN3 work through my Interet BlueRay Player (no app and can't make the URL work)
4. I have no Apple products
5. My TV is about 10' from my computer but not practical to wire it the laptop or router
6. My TV isn't Smart
7. My wife will de-nut me if I buy 50" Smart TV
8. I will not buy an XBox...I don't play video games

I don't want to friggin watch the game on my 14" laptop. I want to stream it on my LED TV.

What is cheapest way for me to stream?

AppleTV, Roku, Google TV????

Can I download an app to my BlueRay and add it? I heard ESPN app is exclusive to Samsung BlueRay. I think I have a Sony.

Please don't make fun of me for being tech stupid.

Get the Apple TV for sure. Apple TV has the Watch ESPN app and has HQ streams that look great on my HDTV. Roku doesn't have an ESPN app and the Chromecast doesn't either. Also you can re-watch Syracuse games later in the week on Apple TV as well.

BTW, AppleTV is the only Apple product I own so I'm not some Apple fanboy by any stretch.

What is your laptop model? Hell an HDMI cable could be all you need.

I know I could do that...but the cable would run across a walkway/stairs. I want to keep things clean and not constantly plugging/deplugging. I want to move beyond 2002.

chromecast works with anything that chrome browsers can display.. it had built in support for netflix/youtube. i have used it with espn3 with no problem. it requires a wireless network so as long as the tv has an hdmi input and is somewhat near the WAP it will work.. took about 5 min to get running.

I was considering buying one, does it look as good as a computer monitor display for ESPN3?

Chromecast does support mirroring from your Chrome Browswer on your laptop, however I cannot speak to the quality of the stream at all as I've never done this. Basically you open it through Chrome on the laptop and Chromecast will display it on the TV. AppleTV allows you to do the same from MacOS/IOS products.

Can I run AppleTV off Firefox?

It's possible but I would not recommend it. I believe that the last version of Firefox that's supported on ATV1 is 3.6.18. You don't need to do this as ATV already has the ESPN3 app.

I would not go the denut route.

You can get a refurb Apple TV for $75. Just make sure you have an extra HDMI cable. Works great.

Using the watch ESPN app you can watch reg ESPN, ESPN 2, etc - without ads.

when i run it it looks the same as what i see.. sometimes espn3 is great sometimes not, but it mirrors the computer it starts on. you can also choose 3 levels of streaming to get the best quality.

the nice thing about the chromecast is no wires and you can stream to any tv from any computer within seconds. i have a 24" tv that i throw out on the deck and i can stream to it from my computer 50ft away in the basement. you want to watch on a different tv just unplug the chromecast and move it to another tv again no wires..

If you go the ATV route I'm pretty sure there is a Safari for Windows version available for download although Apple has likely stopped supporting it now. Do a Google search. If you go the Chromecast route I would simply download Chrome.

If your desktop is from 2002 then you have bigger problems than you realize :) ... this is why I love my laptop ... when in doubt HDMI and bam ... I can watch whatever I want where ever I go .. all I need are my subscription services netflix, comcast on demand, hulu, and etc.

Edit...Sorry..I forgot you said ESPN 3.

Edit # 2...buy a 15 ft HDMI cable and hook your laptop to your TV.

This ... And one more thing. Sign up for a personal VPN. $60 / year at hidemyass.com. You can also go month to month for a bit more if you wish.

Game blacked out in San Antonio on espn3? No problem. Setup VPN for Los Angeles (or other non-blacked out area.) Then connect. Happy non-blacked out game watching.

I have this set up, plus the AppleTV. But to start off, the 15" cable plus VPN is the way to go.

this. Just hook up an hdmi cable from your laptop to your tv, set the input on your tv to whatever port the hdmi cable is in and that's that.

Oh, and if you buy an overpriced Monster HDMI cable, I will haunt you. Get a cheap-ass cable from walmart of radio shack.

Mark,

My ESPN friend is coming over tomorrow night to hook up his appletv to my TV. He swears by it. Part of his job is working on all things espn3. He knows his stuff. If it works well, and I trust it will, I will buy one for myself. He forecasts many days in the future this will crop up again. I might even invite Erv Philips over to watch the game. He's a few towns over and can't get the game either.
