I reserve the right to let you know in a few weeks(months) based on whether or not it turns out good for us.Because this is literally turning into open gym night at the local Elementary school.
two things about the rule. 1. It is ridiculous and ruins the fan experience. 2 . It is the right thing to do. It just isn't just for a kid to have to sit when the coach can up and leave, his assistants can up and leave, the cheerleaders or the dance team can up and leave, the school sports reporters can up and leave and do the same exact thing as they were doing at their next school as they were at their last school. But the player, no, he has to sit out a year. It sucks for us fans.Because this is literally turning into open gym night at the local Elementary school.
Because a coach is an adult and in the make a living world. The players are still, supposedly, students. Should we just do away with all rules so as not to hurt somebody’s feelings? They aren’t trapped. They can still transfer but with no stipulation this is turning into a total sh!!storm.Very curious how it plays out. I think transfer rules need to be revised somewhat. For example, if a coach like Shaka Smart can just get up and leave, kids shouldn’t be trapped at the school or even penalized a year by wanting to transfer.
Does it ruin the fan experience? Or does it just change it in a way that most fans don’t like?two things about the rule. 1. It is ridiculous and ruins the fan experience. 2 . Do you feel the same way when a player on the women’s soccer team transfers when she doesn’t play enough? Or do you only care because the rule is going to impact a sport you care about?Because a coach is an adult and in the make a living world. The players are still, supposedly, students. Tell me you didn’t just compare the cheerleaders, dance team and school reporters to the players. Do you have any idea how privileged these guys are? This whole idea today about how abused these poor players are is so misguidedtwo things about the rule. 1. It is ridiculous and ruins the fan experience. 2 . It is the right thing to do. Question 2...yes.Do you feel the same way when a player on the women’s soccer team transfers when she doesn’t play enough? Or do you only care because the rule is going to impact a sport you care about?
Then why is a player not allowed to go to a new school unlike literally every other person in the school, student and staffTell me you didn’t just compare the cheerleaders, dance team and school reporters to the players. Do you have any idea how privileged these guys are? This whole idea today about how abused these poor players are is so misguided
That isn't what is happening. This isn't just kids transferring because they aren't playing enough. This is kids that are stars transferring to bigger and better schools. The Northeastern kid yesterday that transferred to Michigan State, the Northeastern coach brought this kid in when I imagine Michigan State weren't interested. Helped coach him up and now he transfers to Michigan State as he says they called him every day. Let's not think this is all Woody Newtons leaving to get a shot at PT. It isn't. The G-town center was their best player. As I said, it is the right thing to do. But the fun in college basketball is rooting for your kids for years. And rooting against the kids from G-town or UConn for years. That is leaving the sport and it is bad for the fans.Do you feel the same way when a player on the women’s soccer team transfers when she doesn’t play enough? Or do you only care because the rule is going to impact a sport you care about?
For a school like SU it will turn out well regardless...imo...might even be a blessing in disguise to lose some players that everyone wants to stay. The Orange brand will be gold to portal plugins...the coaches wil have a lot of options to choose from...if they choose wisely it could be very good.I reserve the right to let you know in a few weeks(months) based on whether or not it turns out good for us.
Of course I did. Because they are all students, not professionals, at their school. the idea that they are so privileged that they have to have a rule that prevents them from playing somewhere else is what is misguided.Tell me you didn’t just compare the cheerleaders, dance team and school reporters to the players. Do you have any idea how privileged these guys are? This whole idea today about how abused these poor players are is so misguided
You are right. But bad for fans is not the same as ruining the sport is my point. That isn't what is happening. This isn't just kids transferring because they aren't playing enough. If we look at this from a purely educational perspective, it is bad to have students transferring so much. The loss of continuity, transfer of credits etc.. generally isn't good from an educational perspective and transferring should be discouraged. I am all for transferring if the athlete has already attained their undergraduate degree and are switching for their graduate degree. It is the right thing to do.
What I meant to say is that it ruins the fan experience. for me, the fan experience is that these kids are almost like a part of your family for 4 years. And the kids on the other teams are kids you don't like from across the street. Now, that is more or less gone. You are right. But bad for fans is not the same as ruining the sport is my point.
Is every other student getting their entire school tab taken care of?Then why is a player not allowed to go to a new school unlike literally every other person in the school, student and staff
I can only speak for NYS, but in NY due to fallout from the admissions scandal schools are REQUIRED to recruit undergraduate students, even those that are already attending other schools. If I was a school, I would just shut down the recruiting budget and just pick off transfers.
I totally agree with you on this. I think most of us feel that way. What I meant to say is that it ruins the fan experience. for me, the fan experience is that these kids are almost like a part of your family for 4 years. And the kids on the other teams are kids you don't like from across the street. Now, that is more or less gone.
