Favorite Songs Of The 1970's

Nobody did better covers than the Ramones, and late in their career, they did an entire album of covers (Acid Eaters). This one was on their debut album.

{song: Let's Dance]

Originally a hit for Bobby Freeman in 1958 and covered by hundreds of artists. I like this version and the Beach Boys' version best.

[song: Do You Wanna Dance (Ramones)]

This is a little different than the 1964 version that was a hit for the Rivieras.

[song: California Sun]

Big hit for The Trashmen in 1963, but this is the definitive version.

[song: Surfin' Bird (Ramones)]

This might be my favorite Ramones performance. Period.

Classic song written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono, and sung beautifully by Jackie DeShannon, The Searchers and many others.

[song: Needles and Pins]

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

[song: Danger Bird]

Hey, I was 'on hiatus', not retired. Picking up my alpha list and hoping against hope that I'm not repeating anyone else's stuff:

Written by Allen Toussaint, you all know the cover by Robert Palmer. But here's the original from one of N'Awlins' best, Lee Dorsey:

[song: Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley]

Grand Funk Railroad

[song: Some Kind of Wonderful]

Wow, you fellas aint' messing around.
