FBS Championship Games and FCS Playoff Games for Dec 5-6

What a shame we lost to Stanford last year. We could have been in the playoffs in this dumpster conference
Yep walked out of that game with the same feeling as only a couple others, those being the ‘92 Miami loss and the 1998 Tennessee loss, recognizing the major missed program defining opportunities.

That said, keeping the glass half full, looking at what Indiana and Duke just did, really think we are on our way to the same

I agree, I can’t imagine them excluding Bama. It seems like the choice mostly likely to haunt the committee. The only difference between Bama and ND/Miami is a championship game loss to arguably the best team in the country in Georgia. I can’t believe I’m almost advocating for them, but just saying people would have a legitimate point, and the SEC is highly influential.

SEC fans thought 3 loss Bama deserved to be in last season too. Michigan proved that was a fantasy

I agree, but I do think Bama’s case is a little stronger this year, and they generate more money than Miami, but I know the committee doesn’t think about those factors.

It just doesn’t make sense that a team playing and losing is penalized in favor of a team not even playing. That’s always the conversation every year and will continue to be, especially as it pertains to ND. And I would love to see Alabama OUT.

Alabama and ND being rated higher than Miami basically ensures, to me, Miami is out.

If Alabama didn’t play, does Miami jump them?

The ACC is dumb, that’s why they don’t have a team in.

This entire championship weekend system is broken with the playoff. It just muddies the waters more. These games do nothing but complicate the playoff picture. Additionally, Indiana just had a program defining victory, but might be rewarded by seeing Ohio State again.
100%.

I suspect conference championship games will go away soon. I've long thought that CFB will expand the season to allow for a 13th game, and I bet that's what they do to replace the CC revenue. Particularly as conferences have moved to 9 games. Add an extra game, extract that revenue from their TV rightsholders, and expand the playoffs to 16 (generating move revenue as well).

ND is safe.

Either Miami or Bama.
This is the best summary i have seen of Miami vs. Alabama with Miami bumping Bama (from the Athletic newsletter):

  • Both teams have 10 wins, but Alabama has an infinitely worse loss than either of Miami’s. The Hurricanes lost two close games to eight-win SMU and Louisville. Bama has losses to Playoff teams Georgia and Oklahoma, but also got run out of the building in Week 1 against a Florida State team that finished 5-7. The committee says common opponent results matter among closely ranked teams. Do you know who beat the Noles in Tallahassee rather than losing to them by two touchdowns? Miami.
  • Yes, you can penalize teams for lopsided conference championship losses. Bama coach Kalen DeBoer doesn’t think Saturday’s loss should apply to Bama’s resume “at all.” But BYU, which started the day ranked No. 11, will likely fall after getting drummed for a second time by No. 4 Texas Tech. A few blowout title-game losers fell on Selection Sunday earlier in the Playoff era, too, albeit from outside the top four. Can’t an SEC team also be penalized for a sufficiently ugly title game?
  • Bama’s best win isn’t much better than Miami’s best win. Not in totality, anyway. The Tide’s three-point win over Georgia back in Week 5 was tremendous, but it was only a bit better than Miami’s win over No. 10 Notre Dame by the same margin in Week 1. Unlike Bama, Miami didn’t then lose badly to the victim of its own best W.

So one of the arg for Ala is SOS. yet that is tossed out the window for JMU/Duke

you really think JMU goes much better than 8-5 vs Dukes schedule?

The lost to UL and pulled out a late win vs Wash St. They played 2 teams that had a winning record outside of the UL game.

why is JMU even ranked is the question

This is not hard. Duke jumps into standings at #23 for beating Virginia. James Madison stays below them…beating Troy does not move the needle. Tulane is #11, Duke #12.

Sun Belt complaining will be ignored. Chesney’s heart is not in sticking around another month. They will get clobbered if he tries to coach two teams.

Alabama gets in over Miami. The ACC is not going to complain, as they were gifted Duke. The same thing could happen to the B12 some year… so no need to fret over an 8-5 team getting in.

Plus, this will be the impetus to reform the playoffs again. CCG tiebreaker will be playoff committee ranking or P4 wins.

Miami is so annoying. They were up 20-17 at SMU with the ball with a few minutes left. Just one more first down, and the ACC doesn't get humiliated nationally, and we don't have snooze through James Madison losing at Oregon by 50 points.

For them to have Cam Ward and Carson Beck in back to back seasons with zero playoff appearances is awful.

All this talk

Acc is getting no teams in.

Its their own fault
Yep - so many things to list here, but right now the arcane tie-breaker rules loom large. I get they were trying to determine a "real" championship game base on real outcomes, but that thinking is so 1980's.

You need to get as many teams as possible in the playoff. Again, blinders by ACC management.

Seeing how inept this conference is really has made me realize that their 2003 expansion was success by accident. And also made me realize that the Big East, with far better leadership, could have poached Maryland and set themselves up for another decade.

The ACC is dumb as a mule and twice as ugly.

There's a reasonable argument to be made right now that 3-loss Texas has a better resume than 3-loss Alabama.

Texas beat OU, Vandy and A&M -- three elite wins. Two elite losses (Georgia and Ohio State) and then the one dud at Florida. Isn't that a better resume than Miami, ND or Bama?

If Miami doesn’t make it the ACC commissioner needs to be fired for their stupid tiebreaker. This was the worst case scenario for the ACC.
We actually contributed to Duke's being in the game. Of the tied schools, Duke's opponents had the best conference record at .500. We were 7-1 and only played Pitt of the other tied teams. {Deep sigh}

The committee will put those two on opposite sides of the bracket so they wouldn't meet until CFP title game. Indiana will be #1 seed and tOSU won't fall below #3

ERob should have been fired that night.

That won't happen til late in the playoffs.
