Fire Autry

I have come to the conclusion that the posters on this site are just fans and don't know Shizit about basketball. Some of these comments about what you think a coach can or can't do relative to in game strategy is laughable. I pose this question to all of the so called hoops experts in the 315: Was Coach B.oeheim a good coach? If so, why didn't he continue to win big in the later stages of his career? Did he forget how to coach? Were the quality of players not the same? Did the changing landscape of College Basketball prevent him from making the necessary adjustments to remain successful?
He actually had a talent problem at the end of his coaching career because the recruiting fell off.

What kind of Question is that?
Does North Carolina and Duke count as premier programs?
I mean, UNC football did hire the most successful NFL head coach of all time.

I’m not sure you’re strong at making statements supporting your opinions.

Thank you. This post may just be what my brain needs to distract myself from yet another completely agonizing loss by the Bills.

Talent waas there. He just couldn’t get along with a lot of it especially without Hop. Coaching and talent matter, damn it’s not an either or thing.
He had talented players, but every roster had a major deficiency in the last few years at atleast on one position. This year’s team there is no reason it can’t be an all around team.

So Dr Bill. Please let us know what you think Autry does well as a coach? I would be shocked if you come up with one thing

Coaching is over rated compared to talented players. Get better players and we will win more.

terrible. And he has to go. And he will go. I would bet. Just firing him now doesn't really help things. Makes us fans feel better. That is it.
Firing him now leads to national speculation about our next coach and our potential targets being asked about our job and feeling compelled to deny interest, while their school offers them pay increase/extension. It's not beneficial to us.

We had 18 TOs and 10 Assists. 14 of the 18 came from two players...
If anyone has been watching the pointshaving videos of those buffalo players I will say that George and even Donnie’s turnovers were worse than those. I’m not saying that’s the case.

I just think Autry, JJ, Donnie are snakebit. George is just an inconsistent guard. He is playing the exact same way he did at GT. Will throw 13 assists 3 days ago then have 13 turnovers yesterday and will prob have 10 assists his next game.

he’s gone after the season and knows it unless there’s a miracle ACC tourney run
Even the miracle runs don’t save mediocre coaches. He needs to show real improvement and making things work. Remember Keates at Nc state. Won out all the way to the final 4. Got him 1 more season then canned. Imagine what they just paid for Will Wade. Beat by GT at home. We’re upset by BC with a 5 point spread. That was 17.5! Honorable mention UNC fans calling for hubert Davis’s head after choking back to back games. Both those teams just tanked their seasons pretty good too.

I haven’t gone through all the “fire Red” threads (there are many) so forgive me if this has been covered, but how are we not totally screwed next year either way? We don’t have big recruits coming in and assuming most guys don’t come back we’re gonna need to construct our roster through the portal. How do we do that if a new coach and presumptive staff isn’t in place by March?

My guess is they announce that Red is not coming back as soon as it is mathematically impossible for us to make the tournament. Sometime in late February is my completely uninformed guess. Then they need to find a coach who can help raise NIL money and possibly retain a couple players. But to your point, they'll have to build from the ground up.

Portal I believe is April or May. Depending on the hire some of the existing players will stay. With a better coach and scheme we will attract talent. Only person they need to keep is Kline. He built good team and Red wrecked it.

Come on, man. As someone who grew up in Ithaca, watched Cuse my whole life, and played a little ball, that “it’s just a talent issue, coaches don’t matter” stuff doesn’t fly. I’ve seen plenty of Syracuse teams that weren’t loaded still guard, still execute, still know exactly who they were.
This roster is not some bare‑cupboard situation. You’ve got an All‑ACC–level guard running the show, a former five‑star forward, real size, and a pile of veterans who’ve played high‑major minutes. That’s enough to beat a struggling Boston College team without needing NBA All‑Stars at every spot. When you blow games like that in overtime, that’s focus, decision‑making, late‑game organization – all the things that live on the coaching side as much as the talent side. And using late‑career Boeheim as a shield for Autry is backwards. Jim didn’t suddenly forget basketball; the game changed, the three‑point era stretched his zone, and the recruiting slipped. But even then, his whole reputation was built on discipline and over‑achieving with rosters that, on paper, weren’t scaring anybody. If you gave Boeheim this kind of length, athleticism, and firepower, you know he’d have them drilled on every rotation and every shot. So no, you can’t just wave your hand and say “not a coaching problem” when the team with this much ability is losing that way. That’s not basketball reality; that’s just making excuses. The argument isn’t that coaching alone solves the problem , but I think you understating the importance of it. Last year I certainly could fathom your argument but not this year , and I don’t think most objective observers can sympathize with your view . And another thing you don’t need to be an expert to know that there are no excuses for losing that game as a coach. You see the talent difference as a fan and it’s on the coach to not lose a game like that . Red always talks at the press conference about the errors his team makes and getting better. . Well it’s called command responsibility! I’m a teacher and I need to get my kids ready for the AP government test . I get some kids that don’t work hard make errors etc but my job is to win. regardless - no excuses . I get tired of the weakness of what I see , but I take full ownership… because at the end of the day I can’t tell the administration, sorry kids don’t have it this year. , get me some better talent.

If Kline stays. If he's that good he may get picked off by another more successful program.
