I just re-watched the Elite 8 game. Checkout the pick below. During the game the commentator said the referee indicated that G was inside the circle so clearly it was a block. You know they are BS'ing when they don't show the replay. Now that clearly is a charge. G was in perfect position established in plenty of time. You know how he got their on time. He's protecting his balls really well for the collision. But you can be judge:

I'm so sick of the refs making horrendously bad calls. I mean these guys should be thrown out of CBB for such a blatantly bad call. I mean come on. That's absolutely pure BS. I have no idea in what possible universe the refs can think that is a block other than they meant to up the call. Even the one commentator said he was lucky not to get an offensive call. Any thoughts?

One thing I learned over the years, the refs are "always" against us according to homer fans. It is a charge, but I'm sure UVA is pointing at 100 calls at the end of the game that were against them. So I don't care. It only matters that we won. The refs are as fallible as anyone else, and we get as many for us as against us. Until they come out with a robot that make every call, there'll be ad calls. Even then there'll be those that don't like it. I'll just keep enjoying the game and it;'s imperfections.

You gotta think, with all the technology coming out lately. I wouldn't be too surprised to see some kind of prototype's within the next decade.

Absolutely agree. Although we did get ridden on every drive to the basket!!!!

I've been calling for robot refs for years. There's gotta be a way.

And while you make a fair point...the block/charges have been going against us at an almost comical rate for years, including so many that aren't even CLOSE.

I think refs have it in their heads that certain teams play certain styles of ball and make their calls accordingly. Since we don't base our entire defense on drawing charges like some do, we don't get those calls.

ok...this was a bad call. but a worse call was the one on Coleman when brogdon jumped to the left, coleman standing there in his own space...brogdon grazes him...and gets to the line.

Also hated the 5th foul on Roberson. He jumped up for a rebound, didn't get it, then the UVA player (not sure who) basically bent over and put his behind into Roberson. Should have been a no-call, it had no effect on anything.

the last roberson call was tough as he didnt create any of the contact and was actually trying to not cause any.. agree it was a no call wasted and created nothing.. perhaps if the contact caused the ball to go to SU.. but there is that kind of contact all game long thats not called.

how many times did UV jump out on the screen and run into SU dribblers with no call but the moving screen with marginal contact gets called.

Fallible, yes. Corrective eye surgery require not acceptable.

If Passat can have automatic collision prevention braking they could certainly have a referee BS detector. It would be like car alarm going off!

""Their legs were too far apart"" Never heard that before

I cheered thinking Roberson got fouled.

That was a horrendous call on G. He was clearly set up WAY in advance, you could see him set up before the drive to the basket even started. When they said he was in the restricted area, and didn't show the replay, I just knew it was a bogus call.

We did get a couple calls that went our way, but none egregious. I very rarely blame the refs in any sports event, but some of the blown calls these last two games were insane... and we still won.

THEY DON'T WANT US TO WIN!

Refs are the lowest form of life on earth. I despise them all.

And they def did NOT show a replay on that one.

You said it. The only thing more ridiculous than some of the officiating is the institutional dishonesty practiced by the winners of NCAA broadcast rights.

The one thing people don't take into consideration was the fact that we were leading when that blocking call was made and it changed the momentum of the game totally!
They changed the rules last year or the year before to reduce the offensive foul calls but I certainly haven't noticed a difference and we still get a ton of flops called against us.

CBS/TBS/TNT whatever seems to avoid showing replays on bad and questionable calls. That one was so blatantly obvious that it was the wrong call, yet we never got a replay. Malachi's out of bounds on the sideline was never shown as well.

Refs get stuff wrong, fine, but getting calls so ridiculously wrong is just killing the game. Why have the charge/block semi-circle if the bozo 5 feet away from it can't even get the call right? Why is that not reviewable since he pointed at the line indicating G was within the circle? Why do these clowns call everything a charge, except that play of course, before the contact is even made???

This could be easily accomplished using embedded pressure sensors in the players' uniforms. It's just basic physics and a lot of the technology already exists.

The NCAA could decide on a threshold (i.e. baseline) contact force that is *not* a foul, then all other contact over that threshold is a foul. In that manner a foul on one team would be 100% equivalent to a foul on the other team. You add a flexible OLED directly into the players' uniforms and it lights up when the contact force exceeds the threshold, and the human ref blows a whistle (or better yet you have a wireless transmitter that relays the call to the sidelines). Some sensors can also monitor momentum and direction so a player who is actually SET for a charge would have minimal momentum and thus the sensors could react accordingly.

The two hard parts would be:

1) How to separate contact force during standard defensive maneuvering (a defender is sliding his feet with an offensive player who is driving to the basket but also riding him 'Secretrait' Louisville-defense styel) vs. plays where there is a large amount of allowed incidental contact (an offensive player posting up, or players in a shared space going for a rebound).

2) How to determine the force of contact in areas not traditionally covered by a uniform? Lots of slapping on the arms or wrists. Would players be willing to wear long sleeve uniforms?

Maybe I should write up a patent on this idea...

They called the legs two far apart on Robinson. I could not believe my eyes!
