The 1974-75 Syracuse men's basketball team, the first Orange squad to advance to the NCAA Final Four, will reconvene for a 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, February 8, in the JMA Wireless Dome. The group will be honored at halftime of the Syracuse vs. Boston College game.

An encounter with Kansas City in the regional final was another thriller in which Syracuse prevailed, 95-87, in overtime. Hackett extended the game with a left-handed hook with five ticks on the clock in regulation. He ended up with 28 points and 16 boards in the game that provided Syracuse with its first venture to the Final Four.

Kansas CITY? Jesus H Christ.

Kansas State with the masked man Chuckie Williams!

While Steve Shaw, Rudy Hackett, Jimmy Lee are in the team picture, they are not mentioned on the roster.

Reggie Powell and Shack were not on that team.

Billy Keys was not on that team. He arrived the following year and then transferred out.

Pretty cool how they had "regionals" to qualify for the Big Dance.

Reminder that there is zero visual acknowledgement anywhere in the Dome of our first 1975 Final Four team.

And the best player on that team, Rudy Hackett, who averaged 22.2 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.1 apg, has not yet had his jersey retired.

Why are we so bad at this?

LOL.

Hackett and Lee were the biggest stars on the team. Shaw was in the rotation and played quite a bit. How could they miss Rudy and Jimmy?

Oh well.

It would be great if one of the local TV stations could get the rights to the games against K State and UNC and show them on local TV while the team is in town. And if the games could be played before the game in the hopefully open for business Miron Victory Court.

Here are 26 minutes of huighlights of the SU-UNC game. Phil Ford was an AA for them at the time.

Will they win?
I was born after Hackett played, but I've heard it said that it's a shame Hackett played before the NBA added the 3pt line, or he would have stuck around a lot longer.

I bet that Hackett, right now, could score 20 points against our team if they gave him 30 minutes. He's extraordinarily fit for his age, and shooting and being tall are the last skills to go.

They used the 75-76 roster instead of the 74-75 roster.

I don’t remember Hackett shooting a lot of long range jumpers.Maybe you are thinking of Jimmy Lee or before him Greg Kohl’s would of really benefited from the 3 point line.

Inept I guess Rudy played for the wrong head coach. It is a disgrace that he isn't honored.

No kidding. i watched this just the other day. My favorite game of all time as a Syracuse fan. More than kansas in '03 I was just telling somone this the other day along with the 2 Minn twins wins by the sox on the final 2 days of the 1967 season. I was young.

Been saying this for years. The entire process of retiring jerseys is a fraud until Hackett's goes up. The guy put up Carmello Anthony numbers (slightly better actually) while leading an essentially mid-major SU team to the final four.

Bug Williams getting te ball upcourt in less then 5 seconds for Hacket' s game winning bucket.

Hackett was a player/coach in Italy for a while, then he worked for USC, and his kid played there.

Maybe the timing never worked out?
