NopeDo they still refer to the women's teams as the Lady Brothers?

Restraint of trade? In high school??I’m not arguing it’s fair that private schools recruit players, I’m saying not allowing players to better themselves is restraint of trade. It simple I have no clue I was just asking questions. Sorry my point of view differs from yours. I guess CBA should only play other private schools. Who might they be?
Sorry didn’t want to start a fight. Said I was a newbie. What about when BVille was killing everyone in football for years. How about west hill hoops. CBA is a small private school. Who would you have them play? Anyone can go to CBA. If you live in Liverpool or BVille CND you go to those schools or a private school.member: 338"]
Did you read the article? "Play better" can only go so far if one team is cherry-picking the best players from the region since they are private, but traditional public schools are "stuck" with the people living in their districts - minus the best players who were cherry-picked by the private school.
Related to an extent but not. When I moved out to the Utica area, strong academics and strong athletics is why I chose to move to New Hartford for my kids. They have an advantage in being able to recruit but a disadvantage in having tuition. And the recruiting attraction is academics. Parents want their kid to have the best education.
Where I live, parochial schools often have scholarships for families who can't afford the tuition. They have an advantage in being able to recruit but a disadvantage in having tuition. And the recruiting attraction is academics. Parents want their kid to have the best education.
Don't they have the advantage of offering scholarships, negating their disadvantage? They have an advantage in being able to recruit but a disadvantage in having tuition. And the recruiting attraction is academics. Parents want their kid to have the best education.
Some kids, yes. Not necessarily full scholarshipsWhere I live, parochial schools often have scholarships for families who can't afford the tuition.
Public schools have no tuition so CBA offering some tuition discounts is not an “advantage “. Overall, tuition is a disadvantage. The education and network CBA has is an advantage.Don't they have the advantage of offering scholarships, negating their disadvantage?

I think they call them "lady boys" but maybe I'm getting my websites mixed up.Do they still refer to the women's teams as the Lady Brothers?
I suppose, then, all those public schools are overreacting.Public schools have no tuition so CBA offering some tuition discounts is not an “advantage “. Overall, tuition is a disadvantage. The education and network CBA has is an advantage.
How about let all public schools recruit from other districts and charge tuition for those recruits.I suppose, then, all those public schools are overreacting.
Yes. Everyone focuses on football at CBA, but the other sports experience this. They have a strong senior class for softball, for example, win the section, then get bumped up to the next class without having any say in the matter, and get hammered the next year.My friend has two daughters in a small private school. The school is classified as Class D. They are way under the Class C limit from an enrollment standpoint. Both girls play basketball and I can say none of the girls on the team were recruited and certainly not for sports. Most have been in the school since a young age. They actually won their Section this year. First time ever. Because they were in the section finals the last 2 years, the section will force them to play Class C next year due to a rule that they apply only to private schools. In Class C, they won’t be competitive. After next year’s graduation class leaves, they will have very little talent remaining no matter the Class assigned.
You must get some interesting ads on this site.I think they call them "lady boys" but maybe I'm getting my websites mixed up.
Easy there. She’s a volunteer at our church. You say you knew a woman in NoVa, eh?
Perhaps there may be a critical detail that may be of interest to the board, in general.
I admit I skimmed the article quickly, but that letter ignores the recruiting piece entirely. Can’t have a real discussion about the situation without acknowledging that fact IMO. Is CBA recruiting? I don't know. If they are, that can’t be ignored even if they had a few down years like the letter mentioned. They haven’t lost a game in 3 years and only 1 game in the last 4 years. Seems like a red flag to me that they might have a competitive advantage.Excellent letter to editor today on Syracuse dot com. I have a similar story. No dog in the fight as I’m a public school kid. But my kids went to private schools in DC. Gonzaga and Georgetown Visitation. My son now teaches and is varsity hockey coach at a very small Catholic school on the a Maryland eastern shore. Like less than 100 boys. He won championships as both a player and coach at Gonzaga. At a tiny school he could take the easy way out and play public schools in Maryland. Instead he put his team in the prep school leagues against DeMatha, Gonzaga, St John’s college,!Calver hall, Boys Latin and Paul VI etc. This year with a sophomore dominated lineup they finished 19-3-2. Playing against better teams makes you better and it’s more meaningful for the kids I can see it first hand. My 2 cents.
Not every school can recruit even if they want to. How big is the area? What’s the demographics? Can they afford it when parents pass thee free schools on the way? My son’s recruiting hits a wall when he can’t get a good player because of the entrance test or the $$$. In hoops most schools in the WCAC would boat race every school in Sec 3. But I bet it made JD a better team later that year.I admit I skimmed the article quickly, but that letter ignores the recruiting piece entirely. School size is largely irrelevant if you can recruit. Doesn’t guarantee success every year, but it’s a huge advantage.
You mentioning DC brought me down memory lane. Years ago, 4 time State Champion Jamesville Dewitt with Coleman/Cavanaugh came down to DeMatha and I watched the Stags absolutely wipe the floor with them. Wasn’t a close game out of the gate. DeMatha is a much smaller school than JD. That exemplified to me the difference between private and public. For as good as JD was, they aren’t touching a private school like DeMatha on their best day that makes a concerted effort to recruit kids.
I’ll be interested to find out more about this as I have family that works in the Liverpool school district I’ll be visiting this Easter weekend.
It doesn’t matter. They can play Mars high school for all I care.I’m not arguing it’s fair that private schools recruit players, I’m saying not allowing players to better themselves is restraint of trade.
