Welcome to Moon Day!

Moon Day commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969.

The Apollo Space program, begun by President John F. Kennedy, was created to put the first man on the moon. Apollo 11 fulfilled that dream, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin, Jr. What an amazing and historic event it was!

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched from Cape Kennedy Space Center atop a huge Saturn V rocket. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module, nicknamed the "Eagle", touched down on the surface of the moon at Tranquility Base. Upon landing, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong reported "The Eagle Has Landed". A few hours later, Neil Armstrong, stepped off of the Eagle's ladder, placed one foot upon the moon's surface and proclaimed: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

How Could the New NCAA Tournament Changes Affect Syracuse Basketball? (TNIAAM; Menefee)

Change is coming!

The NCAA announced a few changes for the upcoming 2016-17 basketball season and tournament, including a new committee chairman and changes in the seeding procedure. But the biggest change that will have the most visible impact is that the overall number one seed in the postseason now has the ability to choose the location of their first two games.

In a statement, the NCAA said the preferences of teams in contention for the number one overall seed would be gathered far in advance to Selection Sunday. Next season, the cities hosting the opening round are: Buffalo, N.Y.; Milwaukee; Orlando, Fla.; Salt Lake City; Greensboro N.C.; Indianapolis; Tulsa, Okla.; and Sacramento, Calif.

How could this impact the Syracuse Orange basketball team? I don't want to be a #Disloyalidiot, but predicting Syracuse to be the number one overall seed next season seems far-fetched. If they were, however, one might assume the preference would be to stay close to home and play the first two games in Buffalo.

This change may not directly impact Syracuse in the near future, but it could have the unintended consequences of shuffling some teams around. Let's say Villanova is the number one overall seed next year and Syracuse is also a one seed. Usually, one seeds get to stay pretty close to home. But if Villanova picks the closest location to them, then they head to Buffalo and Syracuse gets bumped somewhere further away. Can't wait to see Coach Jim Boeheim's reaction to that one!

Why the Syracuse Basketball front court should be feared | isportsweb (isportsweb.com; Moritz)

It is never too early to talk about Syracuse Basketball. Especially when Georgetown makes their way back into to the Dome this year. Coming off the spectacular run to the Final Four, Syracuse comes into the season with low expectations by the national media outlets, or rather, low expectations by the Orange’s lofty standards. I believe there will be no second guessing their selection when it comes time for ‘Cuse to make the big dance this year. Although Syracuse losses senior leaders Trevor Cooney and Michael Gbinije as well as freshman phenom Malachi Richardson the team is poised to take a step forward. In large part due to their strong and long front court this year.

In recent years the front court of the Orange basketball team has been a weakness. Having to rely on hitting 3’s and creating turnovers in the 2-3 zone to counteract the huge rebound disparity the team often had to face. Last year ‘Cuse had to depend on freshman Tyler Lydon to play center where he was a bit undersized; He plays much more like a stretch four. In 2015 Rakeem Christmas had to play close to 35 mins per game because of the weak front court. This year will be different. This year the front court provides everything a team needs.

ACC Summer Reset: Can anyone challenge Duke? (SI; Greene)

With summer recruiting heating up and summer sessions underway, SI.com is taking a look at the state of each conference. Players are listed by what year they will be in the 2016–17 season. Next up is the ACC:

State of the champion: North Carolina
Coming off the ACC’s regular season and tournament titles (and, of course, one of the most dramatic and heartbreaking losses in national championship game history), the Tar Heels are likely to enter 2016–17 as contenders but not favorites. While the buzz builds around Coach K’s assemblage of blue-chippers down Tobacco Road, the focus in Chapel Hill is on what Roy Williams needs to replace: four-year starting guard/face of the program Marcus Paige and All-America power forward Brice Johnson, the ACC’s top rebounder as a senior.

Summer syllabus
Boston College: The Eagles will want to forget this dismal past season, in which they were swept by the ACC and won just once away from Chestnut Hill. With Eli Carter gone, a third of the team’s shots are now available. Grad transfer Connar Tava (12.3 ppg at Western Michigan in 2014–15) should provide help at forward, but much more will be needed.
...
...
Syracuse: A consistently engaged Tyler Roberson and a well-integrated Paschal Chukwu (a 7' 2" transfer from Providence), combined with Tyler Lydon, would give the Orange a formidable frontcourt. But at guard—where Colorado State transfer John Gillon joins little-used sophomore Franklin Howard and highly touted freshman Tyus Battle—there may be little room for error.

The Untouchables’ core is made up of basketball stars that represent some of the best Pitt has offered over the last decade.

Syracuse Chiefs pitcher Lucas Giolito wows 'em in Triple-A debut (PS; Poliquin)

They used to come in from the farm, big-boned and with arms to match, throwing stuff that hissed and got to the plate in a hurry.

Strong enough to pick up their plows and point them toward town when asked by strangers for directions, they threw hard and they threw often, and if their elbows ever hurt they'd just grab the liniment and rub (when nobody was looking).

Phenoms, they were called. And they all looked like that kid who was summoned from the Pittsburgh bullpen to face Roy Hobbs in the ninth inning.

Well, baseball still has these guys, even if their back stories have changed. And one of them pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs in his Triple-A debut on Tuesday night against the Gwinnett Braves.

Why is this being tweeted on july 20th? Isn't this the same article that was written during the final 4, or am I missing something?

A subtle message to AW3.

How much did Sparty gear sales go up due to their Final Four run last year?
Oh, yeah... Um, this is awkward. :p
