Welcome to Macintosh Computer Day!

The Macintosh (/ˈmækᵻntɒʃ/ mak-in-tosh; (branded as Mac since 1998) is a series of personal computers (PCs) designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. Steve Jobs introduced the original Macintosh computer on January 10, 1984. This was the company's first mass-market personal computer featuring an integral graphical user interface and mouse.[1] This first model was later renamed to "Macintosh 128k" for uniqueness amongst a populous family of subsequently updated models which are also based on Apple's same proprietary architecture. Since 1998, Apple has largely phased out the Macintosh name in favor of "Mac", and the product family has been nicknamed "Mac" or "the Mac" since the development of the first model.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Despite a double-double from John Collins, Wake Forest fell to Syracuse 81-76 in a tight game at the Carrier Dome Tuesday night.

The roller-coaster of a game consisted of 12 ties and 14 lead changes.

Collins recorded his third-consecutive 20-point game with 23 points. He also pulled down an ACC career high 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.

Bryant Crawford added 13 points while Brandon Childress scored 10 for the Deacs to round out double-digit scoring.

Syracuse (12-9, 4-4 ACC) jumped out to an early 7-2 lead but Wake Forest (12-8, 3-5 ACC) quickly caught back up with an 8-0 run of its own. From there, the Demon Deacons held the advantage until a jumper from Andrew White III gave the Orange a 21-20 lead with just over seven minutes left in the half. The teams battled in the remaining minutes and fought for three ties and four lead changes but it was the Deacs that took a 32-29 advantage into the locker rooms.

The second half matched the first with multiple ties and lead changes. The Deacs slowly built their way up to a 55-47 lead with just over 10 minutes to go but Syracuse did not back down. The Orange took the lead with just under six minutes to go and held on until a Mitchell Wilbekin triple gave the Deacs a 68-67 lead with 2:33 remaining and forced the Orange to take a time out. After the break, Syracuse once again gained the lead and did not look back. The Deacs managed to bring the score within one with nine seconds remaining but the Orange sealed the game in their favor at the free throw line, 81-76.

Along with his 10 points, Childress matched a career high with three steals while matching an ACC career high three rebounds.

The Demon Deacons return to the LJVM Coliseum Saturday, Jan. 28 to face No. 17 Duke. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.

Another one gets away: Clutch play by Syracuse hands Wake Forest loss (journalnow.com; Bailey!)

Twice in the waning minutes, Syracuse guard John Gillon penetrated the Wake Forest defense and made the Demon Deacons pay.

First, he found center Taurean Thompson for an easy three-point play to give Syracuse a 67-61 lead with 4:25 remaining. Then his drive and kick resulted in a wide-open Andrew White 3-pointer from the right wing to break a tie game at the 1:23 mark.

“Everybody touched the ball,” Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said. “It was just perfect ball movement.”

So with half a minute left and Wake Forest trailing 71-70, Wake Forest used help defense to cut off Gillon’s driving lane. But this time he found sophomore forward Tyler Lydon for a deep 3-pointer on the left side.

That shot put the Deacons in a deficit they couldn’t recover from, ultimately losing 81-76 in front of 22,262 in the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night. Wake Forest (12-8, 3-5 ACC) never got off a shot to tie or lead in the final 90 seconds as the Orange (12-9, 4-4) used intentional fouls to keep the Deacons at the free-throw stripe.

Sophomore forward John Collins logged his eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Bryant Crawford added 13 points and gave the Demon Deacons one last bit of hope when he made a corner 3 to cut Syracuse’s lead to one with 20 seconds left.

For Syracuse, White and Lydon combined to shoot 8 of 17 from beyond the arc. White, a graduate transfer from Nebraska, finished with a season-high 27 points and made all 10 of his free throws — including a pair to put the Orange ahead by three with nine seconds left.

Lydon racked up 15 points and eight rebounds while Thompson, a freshman, excelled in the pick-and-roll game en route to pouring in 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Gillon, who took only four shots, making two, made his contributions felt on the court more than the box score.

“We should have played better ball-screen defense,” Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning said. “That didn’t bother us in the first half; in the second half, he was able to turn the corner and make some plays for his teammates.”

Syracuse basketball defeats Wake Forest 81-76 (Brent Axe recap) (PS; photo gallery; Axe)

The Syracuse University basketball team has not played in many close games so far in the 201617 season. As the great Sidney Dean from 'White Men Can't Jump" said: 'You either smoke or you get smoked." That's been the Orange this season. A scroll through Syracuse's schedule will not turn up too many games with tension at the end. There was plenty of tension at the end.

I wish more kids learned to shoot like that.. It was so frustrating trying to un-teach bad habits for kids who think throwing up 3's is the same as shooting 3's
