Welcome to National Macaroni Day!

Each year on July 7th pasta lovers across the nation observes National Macaroni Day.

Made with durum wheat, macaroni is a large variety of dry pasta which typically does not contain eggs. Many people think that it is the short, hollow shape that makes up macaroni. However, it is the kind of dough from which the noodles are made. Elbow macaroni is the most common in the United States, but macaroni may be straight noodles, curved, shells or many other shapes.

Macaroni is used in many different dishes from casseroles and hot dishes to soups and salads.

Rakeem Christmas placed on waivers by Indiana Pacers (PS; Carlson)

The Indiana Pacers waived Rakeem Christmas on Thursday. Their intention was first reported by CBS Sports Radio reporter Scott Agness, then made official when his name appeared on the NBA transactions wire.

By waiving Christmas before the end of July 6, the Pacers owe him just $50,000 of his $1.5 million contract, according to the website SpoTrac.

Agness reported that the Pacers negotiated that deadline back from July 1 to July 6, which would have allowed them to get a look at him during the NBA Summer League.

Unfortunately for Christmas, he missed the first two Summer League games with an ankle injury, then left the Pacers' fourth Summer League game after seven minutes after he re-injuring the ankle.

Christmas seemed to take the news in stride.

The journey continues...

High heat check: Watch Boeheim's Army throw out ceremonial 1st pitches (video, photos) (PS; Ditota)

They didn't throw from the actual pitching mound.

Instead, members of Boeheim's Army took turns Thursday evening throwing ceremonial first pitches from just in front of the NBT Bank Stadium mound. Chiefs pitcher Jaron Long was tasked with catching all those first tosses.

In the end, nobody embarrassed himself. Brandon Triche found redemption after a bounced toss to the plate four summers ago. Trevor Cooney threatened to throw his ceremonial first pitch over the stadium ("Has anybody ever done that?"), but in the end just threw a pitch to the plate.

It was all a little disappointing.

"Nothing's going viral," said Cooney, uttering the sad truth of it.

Afterward, the players sat behind a long table on the stadium concourse and signed autographs for fans, some of whom presented vintage Syracuse basketball jerseys to secure signatures.

Ryan Blackwell on Boeheim's Army, Mike Hopkins leaving, favorite Syracuse moment - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

Boeheim’s Army head coach Ryan Blackwell calls in to discuss The Basketball Tournament and his SU playing career with Wes Cheng on The Juice on the Cuse Podcast hosted by SNY.tv. The Juice Online Editor in Chief Brad Bierman then calls in to discuss basketball recruiting.

Here are the highlights from the show:

Wes Cheng: Boeheim’s Army begins its quest for The Basketball Tournament championship as the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Region starting on July 8 in Philadelphia. It’s your second year as head coach – how much are you looking forward to this?

Ryan Blake: Looking forward to it. It’s a great opportunity. It’s great basketball for the summertime when there’s not a lot going on basketball-wise. It gives fans an opportunity to see some of their favorite players and an opportunity to win some money. Two million dollars in a 30-day span, there’s nothing like that.

ACC Basketball: Ranking the 2017 Recruiting Classes (keepingitheel.com; Lasley)

Now that basically all of the rosters are in order for the upcoming year, it’s time to look at which team ranks where.

Though basketball season is still five months away, it’s never too early to talk about hoops.

As you remember, the Tar Heels won the 2017 NCAA Championship this past April, but the ACC, as a whole, had a poor showing in the tournament.

What was considered to be the best conference in the nation, and one of the best in recent history, if not all time, the ACC will have a lot of new faces come November.

The ACC set a record with 10 first round selections in this past months NBA Draft, so there are high expectations for the incoming players.

Not only did they lose a lot, the ACC also gained a lot. They have 20 players in the top 100, with nine of those coming in the top 30, so there is no question they will have one of the best conferences for young talent.

The ACC is also represented by nine different teams in the top 100.

With many star players from almost every team departing, it is time for some of the top incoming recruits to make a name for themselves in college basketball. Who will be the next big star to play in the conference? Only time will tell.

Here we rank the incoming recruiting classes from each of the ACC schools, with each player ranking being taken from 247 Sports.

2017 Syracuse Bacon Festival: Ready for a bacon milkshake? (PS; Weaver)

The first-ever Syracuse Bacon Festival will be Aug. 19 in Clinton Square.

That's just four days before Central New York's ultimate food festival - the New York State Fair.

"We're going to prime your stomach and get you ready," said Carrie Wojtaszek, the general manager of Galaxy Events.

The bacon festival will be like a smaller version of the Taste of Syracuse. Instead of offering a $1 item, each vendor must offer a menu item that includes bacon, Wojtaszek said. (Galaxy also puts on the Taste of Syracuse.)

So far, about 15 vendors have signed up, Wojtaszek said. Their bacon dishes include bacon-flavored kettle corn, bacon mac-and-cheese, bacon-wrapped scallops and a bacon milkshake.

Vendors as of early July include the Bacon Bomb Stand, Byblos Street Grill, Grandpa's Dippin Sauce, Frogger's on the Hill, Henry's Hen House, Worldling's Pleasure, Tommy C's, Pa's Pistol Sweet Hickory Sauce, Ma & Pa's Kettle Corn, Macarollin', the Spud Shack, Stewart's Root Beer and Pascarella's Bakery & Catering.
