Taking place on the eve of Valentine's Day, Galentine's Day celebrates female friendship, and more broadly, women and their worth, as well as feminism. A gender-inclusive version of the day, Palentine's Day, sprang from it and celebrates all platonic friendships. Instead of focusing on significant others, women celebrate other women in their life with Galentine's Day, while those who celebrate Palentine's Day celebrate all the important people in their life. Galentine's Day and Palentine's Day are often celebrated by those who are single, although those who are in relationships may also celebrate the days. Galentine's Day is often celebrated by those who are against the commercialism of Valentine's Day, although it has become quite commercial itself, with items being pushed online and in brick-and-mortar stores during the lead-up to the day.

Syracuse Basketball: Orange shows a ton of grit, even in defeat (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball nearly gutted out an improbable win after Elijah Hughes got hurt, but the Orange faltered a bit down the stretch.
Syracuse basketball, itself on the NCAA Tournament bubble, faced another group in the same category, N.C. State, on Tuesday night inside the Carrier Dome, with the victor improving its Big Dance resume.
Then, an awful thing occurred, as redshirt junior forward Elijah Hughes, the Orange’s star and one of the premier players in the Atlantic Coast Conference, suffered a left-groin injury during warm-ups and could only compete for a mere couple of minutes.
First and foremost, let’s all wish Hughes, a fine young man, a speedy recovery. I commend him for cheering on and coaching, his teammates for the remainder of this contest. That’s the sign of a leader who possesses character.
Despite not having Hughes in the line-up, the ‘Cuse hung tough with the Wolfpack, as Syracuse held a six-point advantage with fewer than seven minutes left in the second half. However, the Orange put forth several empty possessions in a row, N.C. State hit a handful of timely shots, and the ‘Cuse fell in heart-breaking fashion, 79-74.

Who is working in those great seats at the Carrier Dome? (PS; Waters)
It’s the question Corey Raymond gets asked the most at holiday parties.
"What do you got to do to get those great seats at Syracuse basketball games?'' Raymond said.
Raymond is one of more than two dozen people who sit between the two teams’ benches with an up-close and personal view of Syracuse basketball games in the Carrier Dome.
Their seats are so prominent that John Almonte, who is the official scorekeeper, has strangers recognize him after watching Syracuse basketball games on TV.
So who are these people and just what do they do during games? We went down the list and asked each of them about their game-day duties.

Syracuse 3-point slump leads to offensive adjustments (DO; Alvarez)
Joseph Girard III had driven, spun and faded away from North Carolina State defenders during Syracuse’s latest loss. He scored 30 points with Elijah Hughes hurt, making Feb. 11 Girard’s best collegiate performance.
But, sitting in front of his locker postgame, Girard rued the misses. SU’s other shooters could relate. The Orange fell, 79-74, to NC State in the Carrier Dome, after a three-for-18 showing from 3. Each miss represented Syracuse’s current offensive limit.
“We fought hard,” Girard said, “but if I made even two more open 3s? That’s six points and we would’ve won.”
In recent weeks, opponents have adapted to the Orange’s 3-laden attack, SU players and coaches said. Defenders are more aggressive, challenging the trio of Girard, Hughes and leading-shooter Buddy Boeheim (84 3s). They’ve also doubled ball screens and hand-offs that establish space for the Orange.
In SU’s last eight contests, it’s uncharacteristically converted 28.2% from 3. The drop-off didn’t correlate with a larger offensive issue. Three-point production has dipped steadily before cratering on Feb. 11 against the Wolfpack, and Syracuse’s (14-10, 7-6 Atlantic Coast) 16.7%-rate against NC State stuck out like a sore thumb.

College basketball: Syracuse needs wins approaching toughest part of its schedule (ny360.com; St Croix)
The Syracuse University men’s basketball team faces a daunting path to the NCAA Tournament as it approaches a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference road games that emphasize the gravity of that challenge.
Syracuse (14-10 overall, 7-6 ACC) will play at eighth-ranked Florida State (20-4, 10-3) at noon Saturday, which will be televised on ESPN2, and then play at No. 5 Louisville (21-3, 12-1) at 7 p.m. next Wednesday on ESPN.
The Orange’s task was made more arduous following a crushing 79-74 loss to North Carolina State on Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome in which star forward Elijah Hughes suffered a left groin strain during pregame warm-ups.
The ACC’s second-leading scorer played just three minutes before being removed and is considered questionable for Saturday, according to SU coach Jim Boeheim following the loss.
No update to Hughes’s status was provided on Wednesday and he was unavailable to media after the prior night’s game while he was being treated in the trainer’s room.
“No matter what the circumstances are we’re going to fight,” SU sophomore guard Buddy Boeheim said following Tuesday night’s setback. “To be able to hang in the game without Elijah shows a lot about our character. We wish we could have won that, but we just have to look forward to Saturday now.”

Syracuse Basketball took to Twitter on Wednesday and announced the details of the North Carolina game.
The game will be February 29 at the Carrier Dome. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
It has not been announced which ESPN network will carry the game.
