Welcome to Cyber Monday!

Cyber Monday takes place on the Monday after Thanksgiving, and is the largest online shopping day of the year in the United States. The term was coined by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation, while working with Scott Silverman and others, at Shop.org. In 2005, shortly before Thanksgiving, Shop.org put out a press release highlighting the growing amount of sales that took place on the day. Research from 2004 had shown that the day was the 12th largest online shopping day of the year. After the term made its debut, it has been used as a marketing tool by retailers, and the public has embraced the day. As of 2017, sales have increased each year since its inception, transforming the day from the 12th largest online shopping day, to the largest. In 2006 there were $610 million of sales on the day, and in 2016 there were $3.45 billion in sales, marking the first time online sales had passed $3 billion on a single day in the United States. Half or more of the sales from the day are from work computers, suggesting that consumers still want to do more shopping after Black Friday, want to take advantage of the days' deals, or want to hide the gifts they are buying for family members.

Boeheim on Girard’s shooting slump: ‘No explanation for it’ (PS; $; Waters)

In Syracuse’s first four games of the season, Joe Girard seemed to be taking quite well to his new role as the Orange’s shooting guard.

Following three years spent mostly at the point, Girard was coming off screens and hunting his own shots.

In those first four games, which included a career-high 31 points in an overtime win over Richmond, Girard was averaging 21.2 points. He was lighting the nets on fire from 3-point range, connecting on 17 out of 38 shots from beyond the arc for a .447 percentage.

But in Syracuse’s two most recent games, a disappointing overtime loss to St. John’s and a frustrating one-point loss to Bryant on Saturday, Girard has lost the target.

The 6-foot-1 senior has made just two of his last 22 field-goal attempts. He has gone 1-for-12 on 3-pointers.

ACC Roundup - Syracuse And Bryant Gets Heated (DBR; King)

Well obviously this has to start with Syracuse.

When you see that the Orange lost to Bryant, you know, you think...what the hell?

But it’s not as simple as that.

In the first half, there were clearly some tensions and Judah Mintz slapped a Bryant player you may remember: Doug Edert.

Edert, who had a starring role with Saint Peter’s in last spring’s stirring NCAA run, understandably slapped him back.

Then John Bol Ajak came for Edert and, hilariously and probably intelligently, he got some guys in between him and Ajak, who was not there to discuss ways and means.

Mintz and Edert were ejected. So were Syracuse assistants Adrian Aubrey, Allen Griffin and one other member of the staff.

Bryant saw Kvonn Cramer and Tyler Brelsford also got booted.

The Bulldogs were up 25-17 at that point, with 7:35 to go.

At Syracuse.

The halftime score was 40-29.

At Syracuse.

SU head coach Jim Boeheim addresses the media following loss to Bryant (localsyr.com)

Syracuse dropped its second straight game on Saturday, falling at home to Bryant 73-72.

Freshman point guard Judah Mintz was ejected in the first half for slapping Bryant player Doug Edert.

Sherif Gross-Bullock lifted the Bulldogs to the win, racing the length of the floor for the game-winning basket with .8 seconds remaining.

Justin Taylor led the Orange with 25 points. Jesse Edwards added 12 points and 21 rebounds before fouling out.

Liverpool native Charles Pride scored 13 points and added six rebounds in the win for the Bulldogs.

Syracuse Basketball: Melo 4-star son dishes on chance to continue legacy (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball recently offered a scholarship to the four-star son of Orange legend and long-time NBA star Carmelo Anthony.

Melo’s son, 2025 four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony, says in a recent interview that the ‘Cuse offering him means a lot, given that his dad led Syracuse basketball to the program’s only national championship in 2003.

That being said, Kiyan Anthony recently told 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London that his recruiting process has a long way to go, and he is keeping his options open.

We wrote this morning that we had hoped Syracuse would offer this awesome young man. And the Orange has. Love it. Congrats, @kiyananthony!!! https://t.co/Md4xdEn7w0
— InsideTheLoudHouse (@LoudHouseFS) November 13, 2022

Anthony, as a member of the 2025 class, is a sophomore at Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, N.Y. His list of scholarship offers and interest from big-time programs is expanding, although he definitely was excited when the Orange offered the 6-foot-3 shooting guard from New York City.

Syracuse basketball is firmly in the mix for Carmelo Anthony’s son, a 2025 four-star shooting guard.

In his interview with 247Sports, Kiyan Anthony said in part, “I’ve been waiting for this offer for a while and it meant a lot just because my dad went there and won a national championship there. A lot of people were waiting for me to have this on my checklist. It means a lot to me to have a chance to continue the legacy.”
To date, Anthony’s offer sheet, besides the Orange, includes Memphis, Bryant, George Mason and Manhattan. Illinois, Penn State, St. John’s, Morgan State and others are reportedly showing interest in him.

Indiana could also end up being a team to watch in Anthony’s recruitment, as the Hoosiers’ head coach, Mike Woodson, coached Anthony’s father on the NBA’s New York Knicks.

Notes Anthony: “I’m just keeping all my options open right now.”

Currently ranked in the top 65 in the 2025 cycle per 247Sports, Anthony has made his high-interest level in Syracuse basketball known, and I think it would be so cool if he donned an Orange uniform in a few years’ time.

That being said, coming to the Hill would likely bring with it an added level of pressure for Anthony, given what his dad did in Central New York.

Plus, Anthony may ultimately want to carve out his own collegiate path, and many more impressive offers are likely to arrive for him, particularly as college coaches can initiate direct contact with 2025 prospects in mid-June of next year.

‎Locked On Syracuse - Daily Podcast On Syracuse Orange Football & Basketball: Syracuse Basketball Let Us Down Once Again…Time To Sound the Alarm? on Apple Podcasts (apple.com; podcast; Locked on Syracuse)

Matt Bonaparte and Owen Valentine take a look at the state of the Syracuse Basketball program after a one point loss to Bryant. The loss brings Syracuse to 3-3 and there is a lot of frustration at this point. Does Girard Deserve his minutes? Why can't this team win? Are there any silver linings? It's your Monday episode of Locked on Syracuse.

Axe: Illinois is the biggest fish left for SU basketball before ACC play (PS; $; Axe)

Did you get all the feelings about poorly timed ejections, childish behavior by the opposing coach and a stunning buzzer-beater from Syracuse basketball’s 73-72 loss to Bryant out of your system?

Good.

Because it’s about to get real for the Orange.

If all that matters is making the NCAA Tournament in the eyes of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, then it’s not hyperbole to state his team needs to beat Illinois on Tuesday night in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge to prove the Orange is worthy of an invite to the Big Dance in four months.

Once again, Syracuse (3-3) awakens to, “I Got You, Babe” on the radio as it enters the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in need of a significant non-conference win with losses to Colgate, Bryant and St. John’s already on the ledger before the calendar flips to December.

Syracuse’s best win so far is Richmond, which has a No. 81 ranking on KenPom. The one that got away from Syracuse is the loss to St. John’s in overtime. The Red Storm are a top-40 KenPom squad.

Syracuse Basketball: 4-star wing, a top-40 player, wants to hear from ‘Cuse (itlh; Adler)

One of the top high-school prospects in the sophomore class said in a recent interview that he would like to hear from Syracuse basketball coaches.

Joson Sanon is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward in the 2025 cycle. He was terrific on the most recent AAU circuit, and the four-star Sanon also earned high praise from experts for his recent performance at the prestigious National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Conn.

Sanon is a sophomore at the Vermont Academy, a prep school in Saxtons River, Vt., where Orange senior guard Symir Torrence also played a few years back.

In grassroots basketball, Sanon runs with the Boston Amateur Basketball Club in Nike’s EYBL league. On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw wrote in a recent piece that Sanon boasted “a big summer with the BABC program.”

A top-flight 2025 prospect has interest in Syracuse basketball.

Sanon recently discussed the early stages of his recruiting process with Shaw. In that interview, Sanon said he would like to hear from several schools, including North Carolina and the ‘Cuse.

According to recruiting services and his Twitter page, Sanon’s early offer sheet includes Boston College, Iowa, Nebraska, Providence, Marquette, Bryant and UMass.

At the recent National Prep Showcase, Sanon tallied 22 points, four rebounds, one assist and one block as the Vermont Academy crushed Massanutten Military Academy from Woodstock, Va., by a final count of 72-39.

That’s per 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein, who called Sanon’s output “a statement performance from one of the youngest players in the field.”

Finkelstein added, “What was especially striking was the blend of efficiency and versatility he showed within his individual offense as he knocked down catch-and-shoot threes, mid-range pull-ups, and tough lay-ups with both hands.”

Syracuse Basketball: After another deflating loss, ‘Cuse in a really bad spot (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball is in jeopardy of falling under the .500 mark in the near future after the Orange fell by one point to America East Conference member Bryant, an NCAA Tournament team this past spring, by one point at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday night.

This heart-breaking setback to the Bulldogs (5-1) capped off an intense and really strange non-conference clash on the Hill. Bryant and the ‘Cuse (3-3) put forth virtually identical statistics across the board.

These two squads, which had only met once before in a one-point victory for Syracuse basketball over the Bulldogs at home in November of 2020, connected on the exact same number of field goals and 3-pointers this past Saturday in Central New York.

The only difference is that Bryant made one more free throw than Syracuse basketball. That’s it. The Orange actually won the battle on the glass, and many other statistical categories were basically even.

Syracuse basketball is now in the midst of a two-game losing streak.

The ‘Cuse fell to the Bulldogs, 73-72, in a tough, tough manner. An unfortunate incident with about seven minutes to go in the first half resulted in the ejection of Syracuse basketball freshman point guard Judah Mintz, several Bryant players and also some assistant coaches.

Mintz, who entered this encounter leading the Orange in scoring, would only get seven points versus the Bulldogs.

Senior shooting guard Joe Girard III, who was awful in the team’s 76-69 overtime setback against St. John’s last Tuesday evening at the 2022 Empire Classic in New York City, followed up that dreadful performance with another dud versus Bryant.

Against the Bulldogs, per ESPN stats, Girard hit on just 1-of-12 from the field and 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. He finished with five points.

Ethan Allen's new location in DeWitt (Elizabeth Doran|edoran@syracuse.com

Longtime furniture retailer sets date to reopen in new Syracuse-area location (PS; $; Doran)

A well-known name in the furniture business, Ethan Allen, is returning to Central New York and opening its new location in DeWitt on Nov. 30.

Ethan Allen will open its new showroom in the Marshall’s Plaza outparcel building alongside LensCrafters and Crumbl Cookies.

The space is a smaller storefront than the Danbury, Conn-based retailer had at its previous location, which was across from Wegmans in DeWitt, at 100 Dewey Ave.

That store closed in spring 2021. It was Ethan Allen’s only Syracuse-area location.

The retailer plans a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8 with vendors and a chef serving light bites, said Jared Roth, the store’s owner.

The new store is 2,500-square-feet and will have six or seven room settings with furnishings. There will be large video monitors showcasing the furniture choices, Roth said.

Ethan Allen operated in DeWitt for over half a century. Roth said it the first store was owned by corporate Ethan Allen. He and his family will be owning and operating the new DeWitt store. They also run the store in Eastview Mall in Rochester.
