George Speck aka George Crumb, Hater/PC Creator
Welcome to National Potato Chip Day!
Happy National Potato Chip Day! March 14 is a day to grab a bag of your favorite chips and chow down, but it's a day that probably wouldn't even exist had it not been for a 19th century chef in Upstate New York.
George Speck, a.k.a. George Crumcourtesy of Saratoga Chips
The legendary snack food was invented by a man named George Speck, better known by the name George Crum, who cooked at the Moons Lake House in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Legend has it that in 1853 a wealthy customer ordered a house specialty of fried potatoes, but kept sending them back because they were too thick and soggy, even though that was the traditional way to make them.

Big Ten Football Coaches Facing Toughest Tasks This Spring (BR; Regimbal)
Ohio State's quest to replace an incredible 16 starters, Michigan State's journey back from its blowout playoff loss and Michigan's search for its next great quarterback highlight a busy spring for the Big Ten.
The conference was the king of the college football world following a breakout 2014 postseason, when the Buckeyes won the first-ever College Football Playoff, the Spartans beat the Baylor Bears in one of the best games of the season and the Big Ten went 5-5 overall despite being underdogs in each matchup.
The league went 5-5 again in the 2015 postseason, highlighted by Ohio State's drubbing of Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. But the Big Ten took a hit with Michigan State's disastrous 38-0 defeat at the hands of Alabama in the playoff.
The road back to college football's biggest stage starts this spring. From new coaches taking over to established ones trying to reload, here are five coaches facing some of the league's biggest challenges.

Football Drags on UConn's Power 5 Ambitions (nytimes.com; Nocera)
It was very good week for the University of Connecticut. First, the undefeated UConn women’s basketball team polished off a solid University of South Florida team, 77-51, Monday night in its conference tournament. Then came the men. On Friday afternoon, the Huskies won a thrilling four-overtime game against Cincinnati in a quarterfinal tournament game that included a remarkable three-quarter-length buzzer beater by Jalen Adams to send the game into the fourth overtime. They followed that game with victories over Temple and Memphis to win the tournament. A bubble team coming into its conference tournament, the UConn men landed a ninth seed for the N.C.A.A. tournament.

The Best Meatballs in CNY Are Served at...the Palace Theatre? (PS; Cazentre)
The Palace Theater in Eastwood took home the top award for "the best meatballs in town" from the panel of judges in the annual March Meatball Madness contest held today at the state Fairgrounds.
The Basil Leaf Ristorante in North Syracuse was voted the "People's Choice" winner by the 650 attendees at the annual food-tasting event that benefits Elmcrest Children's Center in Syracuse.
Although it's primarily a movie theater and event space, the Palace also has a catering side.
Finishing second and third in the judging were Vince's Gourmet Imports of Liverpool and Luigi's restaurant in Syracuse's Valley neighborhood.
The Palace's win snapped a three-year win streak for Santangelo's Restaurant in Liverpool, which has also won the contest in six of its 12 years.
The event in the International Pavilion at the state Fairgrounds allows guests to taste (and judge) the competing meatballs, sample wines and cheese, dine on a buffet prepared by Dominick's Restaurant, and listen to music by Mickey Venditti Good Times Band.
