Welcome to National Coquilles St. Jacques Day (this one is for you Lil' Joe)!

How shell we celebrate? May 16 is National Coquilles St. Jacques Day!

For those who need to brush off the ol' French translation books, today we’re celebrating scallops.

Coquilles St. Jacques, or scallops St. James, is a classic French preparation of the soft, mildly sweet mollusks. It’s named for - you guessed it - St. James, who is reputedly buried in the cathedral ofSantiago de Compostela in northwest Spain.

Pilgrims visiting the cathedral would often carry scallop shells with them in the apostle's honor. It’s said that the grooves on the shell represent the different paths pilgrims take, ultimately all winding up at the same destination - the cathedral. The scallop shells also served a more practical purpose, as water and food bowls.

As for the actual dish, the scallops are poached in white wine, then placed back in a clean scallop shell over sautéed mushrooms. The dish is then topped with the reduced poaching liquid, cream, cheese and breadcrumbs and broiled until just crisp and brown.

Three-Star Class of 2016 Florida Safety James Pierre Verbals to Syracuse (DO; Tanger)

Class of 2016 three-star safety James Pierre committed to Syracuse on Saturday, per multiple reports. He was originally signed to North Carolina but had to decommit after UNC would not admit him.

The Deerfield Beach (Florida) product is listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds. He runs a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash and has a vertical jump of 37 inches, per his Hudl.com profile.

Pierre held offers from Louisville, Miami (Florida), South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. He also held an offer from Bowling Green, the former school of current SU head coach Dino Babers.

Scout has him ranked as the 65th best safety in the 2016 class, while 247sports.com’s composite rankings have him as the 48th best.

With this commitment, the 2016 class now features four safeties. Pierre joins Devon Clarke, Evan Foster and Scoop Bradshaw. Bradshaw is one of the four Orange commits in the class to have committed while former head coach Scott Shafer was still with SU.

Pierre is listed at 6'1 175, so he has room to grow into his frame.

He runs about a 4.6 40 according to most recruiting services, and from his film looks like a natural FS.

He describes himself as a "speedy safety who likes to hit hard."

Floyd Little Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree from Syracuse University (twcnews.com; Cappabianca)

Thousands of students threw their caps in celebration for Syracuse University’s 2016 commencement ceremony.

Among the sea of orange, one honorary graduate has been a beloved part of the SU community for decades, Floyd Little.

The former SU running back has been working for the school’s athletic department since 2011.

Students around campus say his latest award is well-deserved.

"I work with the basketball team and he's been a huge part of the whole program," graduate Mike DeCandido said. "He's been there for all of us during hard times. He's done a lot for the school, a lot for the program."

“He was really a role model to people, not even just here, but in the community too," graduate Deyara Morris said. "He’s worked with various community centers and worked with young kids, so he’s really inspired a lot of people."

Snow Falling As Genesee Upset OCC 13-12 to Win the JUCO National Championship

Syracuse Breaks Snow Fall Record; The Bar Was Set Low (PS; Coin)

The snow that fell Sunday in Syracuse wasn't enough to measure, but it was still record-breaking.

A trace of snow was recorded at Hancock International Airport Sunday, which is less than the National Weather Service measuring threshold of 0.1 inch. But that was enough to set a record, because not even a trace of snow had been recorded before on May 15.

It really is May 15, and it really did snow on Sunday. Here are some photos and videos, mostly from Western New York and the Adirondacks.

Records began in 1902.

The record snowfall for today, May 16, is also a trace, set in 1956. We might reach that; light snow has fallen in the past hour at the airport.

The latest date on which measurable snow has fallen in Syracuse is May 17. In 1973, the city had 1.2 inches.

It doesn't look like Syracuse will set a record for the coldest May 16. The record is 32 and forecasts had initially called for temperatures lower than that, but clouds trapped heat overnight and kept lows in the high 30s.

Yuck. Basically foreshadowing the end to Syracuse athletics mattering. Kind want to go throat punch him.
Stewart has been using again.
