Welcome to Drive-In Movie Day!

On this day in 1933, eager motorists park their automobiles on the grounds of Park-In Theaters, the first-ever drive-in movie theater, located on Crescent Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey.

Park-In Theaters–the term “drive-in” came to be widely used only later–was the brainchild of Richard Hollingshead, a movie fan and a sales manager at his father’s company, Whiz Auto Products, in Camden. Reportedly inspired by his mother’s struggle to sit comfortably in traditional movie theater seats, Hollingshead came up with the idea of an open-air theater where patrons watched movies in the comfort of their own automobiles. He then experimented in the driveway of his own house with different projection and sound techniques, mounting a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of his car, pinning a screen to some trees, and placing a radio behind the screen for sound. He also tested ways to guard against rain and other inclement weather, and devised the ideal spacing arrangement for a number of cars so that all would have a view of the screen.

Report on Tommy DeVito From Elite 11 Camp (nationalhsforum.com)

Made it early Saturday and mid day Sunday.

On Saturday I was hour plus too early before they started throwing and not many people were there.
...
...
One of things he mentioned was STA won't play IMG ... IMG has apparently reached out to sta. I forgot to ask him about who should get start at RB? I think I read somewhere despite all these 3-5 star guys IMG doesn't have true RB and they will need to replace tony jones who's at nd now. But he said they have a stud to replace nauta at TE (forget his name) and the safety Pryor is apparently staying. His son came over and was very polished as well.

Davis mills father came over and he was also a really nice guy. Think davis was rated 1 after first day or two. We than got on topic of Brandon wimbush after discussing Deshone Kizer who was at the camp and how wimbush was too talented to sit for 2 more years behind Zaire and Kizer. Than I kid you not and Mr mills had no idea I was from nj originally ... He said, "well wimbush is from that big north united league in nj ... It's probably the best league in the country." True story. He did say after those 6 nj teams nj isn't really good but those words did come out of his mouth. Davis came over and the kid looked the part. Saw devitos father and you could tell he's a proud father soaking up the experience. Great accomplishment for a son to be invited to an event like that.

On Sunday tommy devito was impressive. He looked very very sharp in 7 on 7s. Didn't see Jonathan lewis throw. The lefty alabama commit Tua tagovailoa from St. Louis HS in Hawaii is a stud. He was throwing dimes.

Martell was impressive as expected.

Syracuse Football: Summer Workouts Focused On Quality Over Quantity
(TNIAAM; Weinheimer)

The Syracuse Orange football team will take a different approach this season in their summer workouts. Under head coaches Doug Marrone and Scott Shafer the Orange had a program that was heavily oriented in running sprints and heavy conditioning.

With new head coach Dino Babers, however, the emphasis will be on keeping the players' bodies healthy and fresh throughout the summer:

"Coach has said that he will never make us run more than we need to," Mahoney said. "He wants to keep the bodies fresh so every day we're not beating ourselves up and when it comes time for camp, people are competing and getting after it and staying healthy."

This strategy should be applauded. Syracuse has had an injury-ridden past couple of seasons, causing depth to be an issue and directly affecting the play on the field. If the players are all healthy, that obviously is a very good thing for this team heading into the fall. While the Orange want to play fast, they will be incapable of doing so if they have no depth. This makes injuries (or lack of) absolutely paramount to the success or failure of this season.

Miss USA 2016 pageant: How did former Syracuse beauty Neely Fortune do? (PS; Herbert)

How did Miss Vermont USA 2016 Neely Fortune do in the Miss USA pageant Sunday night?

Fortune, a former Christian Brothers Academy student who left Syracuse her senior year of high school for Vermont with her family, stood out among the 52 contestants with her background in endurance fitness and wildlife biology. She even raised a few eyebrows when she introduced herself during the Fox broadcast, and some viewers thought she said her name was "Wheel of Fortune."

Miss Vermont: "Neely Fortune"
Dad: "Did she say her name was Wheel of Fortune?"

"Neely Fortune" sounded like "wheel of fortune". #MissUSA

— Pat Sheridan (@accountingninja) June 5, 2016
I seriously thought that Miss Vermont said her name was Wheel of Fortune not Neely Fortune. #MissUsa2016

— Elizabeth K Mahon (@scandalwomen) June 5, 2016
However, Fortune did not make the top 15 in the 2016 Miss USA pageant. Women from Washington, D.C., Alabama, California, West Virginia, Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, Missouri, Connecticut, Hawaii, Arkansas, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Virginia made the first cut Sunday night.

The top 10 finalists were beauty queens representing Virginia, Alabama, California, Georgia, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Missouri, Arkansas, South Dakota and Hawaii

Ultimately, Deshauna Barber, representing the District of Columbia, was crowned Miss USA 2016.

I REALLY like the Devito kid. Not to mention he has a brother named Daniel, ie; Danny Devito!
