Welcome to National Christmas Tree Day!

The tradition of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse began with President Calvin Coolidge over 90 years ago. A 48 foot Balsam Fir from Vermont decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white, and green served as the first National Christmas Tree which was lit by President Coolidge on Christmas Eve 1923. Today the tradition continues and is one of the most beloved holiday events in Washington DC.

2018 Shamrock Series To Feature Syracuse In Yankee Stadium (und.com)

The University of Notre Dame announced Wednesday that it will play Syracuse on Nov. 17, 2018, at Yankee Stadium, as part of its Shamrock Series. This matchup will mark the Shamrock Series’ second trip to the fabled home of the New York Yankees.

Notre Dame and Syracuse have played eight times, with the Irish leading the series 5-3-0. Notre Dame earned a 50-33 victory in the most recent meeting between the schools on Oct. 1, 2016, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Irish and Orange met for the first time on the gridiron on Nov. 26, 1914, when Notre Dame shutout Syracuse, 20-0, at Archbold Stadium (the original home of the Orange).

Neutral-site matchups are nothing new to the Notre Dame-Syracuse series. The 1963 game, which the Orange won 14-7, was played in the original Yankee Stadium on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28). It marked Notre Dame’s first game after the tragic death of John F. Kennedy the week before in Dallas. The two have also twice faced off at MetLife Stadium (2014, 2016) -- home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. The Irish captured both meetings, including a 31-15 victory on Sept. 27, 2014.

Notre Dame has played 26 games at Yankee Stadium. In addition to the ‘63 meeting with Syracuse, the Irish have played Army (1925-29, 1931-46, 1969, 2010), North Carolina (1949) and Rutgers (2013 Pinstripe Bowl).

Notre Dame Football: Irish To Play Syracuse At Yankee Stadium In 2018... This Is Dumb (onefootdown.com; Vowels)

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish appear to be set to restart the Shamrock Series next season. According to reports, the Irish will play the Syracuse Orange at Yankee Stadium on November 17 instead of at home in Notre Dame Stadium.

Notre Dame’s 2018 game vs. Syracuse will be played at Yankee Stadium, multiple people with knowledge of the situation tell @TheAthleticCFB.

I was wrong to think that Notre Dame would quietly kill this failed attempt at nostalgia, and try to start scheduling to WIN games rather than some bullshit BRAND OPPORTUNITY. I should have known that powerful men that have agendas, tend TO STAY ON THAT AGENDA REGARDLESS OF THE WAKE OF DESTRUCTION THEY LEAVE BEHIND.

Of course the best way to win in college football, and in life, is to have just ONE home game after October 13th (Florida State Seminoles on November 10).

Syracuse Receives AFCA Academic Honorable Mention (cuse.com)

For the 24th time since the birth of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Academic Achievement Award in 1981, the Syracuse University football program was recognized for its academic success, as the Orange received 2017 honorable mention honors from the organization on Thursday, Dec. 7.

It marks the 23rd time Syracuse has earned honorable mention status, which is tied with Vanderbilt and Wake Forest for the sixth-most of any FBS program.

The award recognizes the FBS team with the highest graduation rate annually, with honorable mention honors handed out to programs that graduate more than 75 percent of its student-athletes. Alabama, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, Utah, Utah State and Virginia shared the 2017 award with 100 percent graduation rates for members of their 2010 freshman classes.

The AFCA Academic Achievement Award is presented annually by the Touchdown Club of Memphis and the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate (GSR) formula is used to select the winner. This year's award will be presented at the Honors Luncheon on Monday, Jan. 8 during the 2018 AFCA Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Syracuse won the award in 2000 in addition to its 23 honorable mention certificates.

Most Awards: Duke, 14; Northwestern, 10; Notre Dame, 9; Boston College, 4; Stanford, 4; Vanderbilt, 4; Virginia, 3; Miami (Fla.), 2; Rice, 2.

Syracuse Football End of Season Grades: Sean Riley (itlh.com; Peelman)

Inside The Loud House breaks down and grades the play of Sean Riley now that the season is over for Syracuse Football.

Syracuse football and Sean Riley are like two peas in a pod. What do they both have in common? Sometimes they show up, and sometimes they don’t.

We were singing Riley’s praises earlier in the season; especially after that Central Michigan game where he exploded on the scene after Erv Philips got injured. We thought he might have a bigger role in this offense after that and end up being one of the stars of the team, considering how fast he is.

One area we thought he’d continue to excel in was in the return game as he showcased he has a knack for big returns.

SU Offers Elite 2019 Safety – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Hoppe)

Recruiting. That’s the name of the game for Syracuse football right now, and rightfully so after this year’s disappointing 4-8 season. If the Orange wants to move into the middle tier of the ACC, this is when it has to do it. While this past football season was a struggle, the shocking win against Clemson gives Dino Babers an advantage in this year’s recruiting cycle: no other team has beaten the Tigers yet this season. Syracuse needs to capitalize on that.

So far this year, Babers is doing just that. Need an example? Just check out the latest defensive back to receive an offer by SU. Brendan Gant is a 6-foot-1, 176 pound safety from Lakeland, Florida.

A building originally built in 1900 as a knit undergarment mill has been brought back to life by the Lahinch Group. The Oak Knitting Mill at 102 West Division Street features historic loft apartments in Franklin Square.

Design elements allow residents to peek back at history while walking around the building. Original steel and wood beams can be seen throughout with other modern elements. A trip to the basement offers views of stone foundation walls that are still holding the building today.

38 high end apartments fill the building including one and two bedroom options.

ACC football coach salaries and contract details - ACCSports.com

What are the salaries and contract expiration details for the various current head coaches around the ACC? Take an inside look at the numbers surrounding the league’s coaches, and what it will take for various schools to buy out their current deals.

All salary figures are provided via a report from USA Today with detailed head coaching numbers across college football.

ACC FOOTBALL CURRENT HEAD COACH SALARIES (2017)
Dabo Swinney (Clemson): $8,526,800
Bobby Petrino (Louisville): $3,930,434
Bronco Mendenhall (Virginia): $3,400,000
Justin Fuente (Virginia Tech): $3,250,000
Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech): $2,970,891
David Cutcliffe (Duke): $2,613,638
Steve Addazio (Boston College): $2,448,949
Larry Fedora (North Carolina): $2,290,000
Dave Doeren (NC State): $2,212,600
Pat Narduzzi (Pittsburgh): $1,827,735
Dave Clawson (Wake Forest): $1,827,370

NOTES:

  • Specific details of the contracts of Mark Richt (Miami) and Dino Babers (Syracuse) are not public. It was reported at the time of Richt’s hire by Miami that he would make approximately $4 million annually, which would have placed him third in total pay among ACC coaches in 2017.
  • Former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher received $5,700,000 in total pay in 2017, ranking second in the ACC behind only Dabo Swinney. Fisher’s buyout is the sum of all monies remaining on the contracts of his assistant coaches not retained by FSU. With multiple coaches on multi-year contracts, this buyout could reach up to $10 million or more for Fisher to buy out of the FSU contract extension he signed last December.
  • Dave Doeren’s new contract extension with NC State elevates his pay above $3 million annually, and places him among the top half of ACC coaches in terms of total pay.

Nike Coach of the Year Clinic 3/1/2018. Definitely going to have to change some of the speakers or their school affiliations. ;)
