Welcome to International Museum Day!
According to the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a museum is "a non-profit, permanent institution in the service of society and its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for the purposes of education, study and enjoyment." International Museum Day, founded and organized by the ICOM, aims to raise awareness that "museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples."
International Museum Day got its start in 1977 when a resolution was adopted at the ICOM General Assembly in Moscow to create an annual event "with the aim of further unifying the creative aspirations and efforts of museums and drawing the attention of the world public to their activity." The number of museums participating in the day has increased in the decades since. Since 1992, there has been a unique theme each year that is devoted to an issue that deals with the role of museums in the development of society and is at the forefront of the global museum community. There has been an official poster for the day since 1997, and in 2011 online resources were expanded.

Projecting Syracuse's depth chart after the spring: Who will step up to round out starting offensive line? (247sports; $; Bailey)
Syracuse football completed one of its most interesting springs of the Dino Babers era in April. The seventh-year head coach saw his new offensive coordinator install a pro-style scheme. He watched the defensive staff work to prepare its young linemen, tasked with paving the way for a bevy of veteran playmakers behind them. He monitored a special teams unit that's looking to bounce back, also under a new coordinator.
Now, as players shift to voluntary workouts ahead of summer conditioning, it's time to take a look ahead. How did those 15 spring practices shape what the 2022 Orange will look like in the fall? Over the next couple of weeks, we'll go position-by-position to project the team's two-deep depth chart.

The lockiest of locks, Bergeron is an All-ACC caliber player with quick feet and excellent balance in pass protection. He's been a standout performer over the last few years despite being part of a unit that has struggled mightily to keep its quarterbacks upright. The Canadian is working to develop his run-blocking this offense -- a contrast to the majority of his position mates.

Opponent Analysis: Clemson Tigers — 2022 Syracuse Football preview - The Juice Online (the juice; Sears)
As we countdown to kickoff in September, we’re going to be doing a team-by-team opponent preview each week over the spring/summer. This week, we’re previewing Syracuse’s matchup with Clemson on Oct. 22 with their major storylines.
2021 was a strange year for the Clemson Tigers football program. A 10-3 overall record and a 20-13 win over Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl would be considered a great year for the majority of programs in college football. Yet for a school that has played in four national championship games in the last seven years, bowl game victories doesn’t cut it.
The Clemson offense fell off a cliff last year, landing at the 82nd ranked scoring offense with 26.3 ppg. That was dismal when compared to their performance in 2020 when they scored 43.5 ppg, good for third in the country. Ultimately, injuries to receivers and the offensive line paired with the departure of an All-American quarterback proved to be too much for the Tigers to overcome.
Luckily, the offense didn’t need to be great.
DEATH, TAXES AND THE CLEMSON DEFENSE
The defense made up for everything. Ranked second in the country only to the national champion Georgia Bulldogs, their defense gave up a mere 15 ppg and allowed their offense to do just enough to win. Going back to 2017, the Tigers defense has been top two in the country in points per game every year except one- 2020, when they finished 18th.
That was the most Covid-affected year however, and if you disregard the teams that didn’t play at least 10 games, Clemson finished ninth in the country with 20.2 ppg.
Losing defensive coordinator Brent Venables, who took a head coaching job at Oklahoma, will certainly be tough to overcome. This roster is deep and talented though, and new DC Wes Goodwin is an in-house hire that’s worked closely with Venables for the last four years as a scouting and defensive breakdown assistant. The transition there should be hardly discernible.
Clemson is filled with talent along the defensive line, but of more importance might be in the secondary where there’s definitely a large hole to fill with Andrew Booth, Jr being drafted by the Buffalo Bills at the top of the second round (#42 overall) and Mario Goodrich getting nabbed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. The two corners were the first single-team cornerback duo to earn first-team All-ACC honors since 1997.

Syracuse football commit, a top-15 QB nationally, to officially visit Orange (itlh; Adler)
It’s going to prove quite a busy summer for Syracuse football as it pertains to the team’s recruiting efforts as well as welcoming high-school prospects to the Hill for visits.
According to his Twitter page, 2023 three-star commit LaNorris Sellers plans to make an official visit to the Orange on June 24, which is exciting to hear.
The 6-foot-2 Sellers, a junior at South Florence High School in Florence, S.C., is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks across the country in his class.
He is a consensus three-star player, according to all of the primary recruiting services. Sellers said he would commit to the ‘Cuse in March, and I think that his pledge to the Orange is a huge foundational piece for the squad in the 2023 cycle.
Syracuse football will welcome QB signee LaNorris Sellers to Central New York next month.
Besides Sellers, there are numerous recruiting targets who anticipate traveling to the ‘Cuse in June. Two such high-school prospects whom we recently noted are 2023 three-star linebacker Zyian Moultrie-Goddard out of Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y., and 2023 three-star offensive lineman Eric King with the Saint Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, N.J.
Getting back to Sellers, he had previously given a verbal commitment to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia. However, at the conclusion of the 2021 college football campaign, Cavaliers head coach Bronco Mendenhall resigned.
Additionally, UVA offensive coordinator Robert Anae and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck left that squad to take on similar roles with Syracuse football.
The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to Sellers, who had reopened his recruitment, in mid-January. He then committed to Syracuse football, revealing his choice via Twitter, on March 6.

Syracuse Football: A top prospect out of New York state to officially visit SU (itlh; Adler)
One of the best prospects in New York within his recruiting cycle plans to take an official visit to Syracuse football next month, he said on social media.
Three-star linebacker Zyian Moultrie-Goddard revealed on Twitter that he plans to travel to the Hill for an official visit on June 17. He said in that tweet that his trip to Central New York in his first official visit to a college campus.
Obviously, it’s an encouraging sign that Orange coaches have scored a visit from the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Moultrie-Goddard, who is a member of the 2023 class and attends Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Not too long ago, we noted in a separate piece that 2023 three-star offensive lineman Eric King is scheduled to officially visit the ‘Cuse from June 24 to June 26, he recently said via Twitter.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound King goes to Saint Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, N.J., and rates him as one of the best offensive guards across the country in his recruiting cycle.

Speedy 2023 Wide Receiver 'Blessed And Thankful' for Syracuse Offer (SI; McAllister)
Syracuse wide receivers coach Mike Johnson was in Florida recently evaluating talent for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes. He spent time at The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach and watched class of 2023 athlete Micah Mays. Mays, a 6-2, 175 pounder, is also a track star. The combination of size, athleticism and speed makes him an intriguing prospect.
After Johnson saw Mays live, an offer was extended.
"Blessed and thankful," Mays said of the offer.
In addition, Mays says his interest in the Orange is "strong." Syracuse joins a list of offers that totals nearly three dozen. They include Appalachian State, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Louisville, Minnesota, NC State, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and West Virginia, among others. Cincinnati, Florida State, Miami, Northwestern and Purdue are among those that have also expressed interest.
Mays had 42 catches for 724 yards (17.2 average) and seven touchdowns during his junior season (highlights in the video at the top of the page).

ESPN Insider Predicts Pitt's Permanent ACC Opponents (SI; Thompson)
The ACC appears primed to eliminate the two-division model that determines football scheduling and who plays in the annual championship game. A 3-3-5 model that gives each team three opponents to play every year and five rotating opponents was the most popular option at the conference's spring meetings last week, and ever since, speculation about who will draw who has run wild. ESPN ACC insider Andrea Adelson gave her predictions about who the Pittsburgh Panthers will play in their annual conference matchups.
Adelson said she thinks Pitt will draw Miami, Syracuse and Boston College as their three permanent opponents. For other teams in the conference, Adelson found it easier to assign them natural rivals. But the Panthers are a special case.
As a member of the conference's northern contingent, they do not have the proximity or historical ties that other ACC schools have to one another.
"I am also uncertain about how the league will approach the Northern flank, especially since those schools want to have a presence south," Adelson wrote in a thread on Twitter. "I left Miami-Pitt because of its previous history and current yearly matchup."
Syracuse, Miami and Boston College are all former Big East members that have varying degrees of familiarity with the Panthers.
Syracuse is an obvious choice and the only team that Adelson thinks is a lock to play Pitt annually. While the most compelling chapters of the Panther-Orange rivalry have happened on the hardwood, the gridiron has still produced some great moments. The two schools have played football against one another 77 times and once a year ever since 1955. Recent history has been dominated by the Panthers, but the games have been close. Six of the last nine contests have been decided by single digits and the 2016 game - a 76-61 win for the Panthers - still holds the record for most points in an FBS game completed in regulation.
Miami and Boston College's history with the Panthers is much less storied. Pitt has played the Hurricanes just 41 times and rarely found success. Since 1984, the Panthers have beaten Miami just three times and only seven games have been decided by one score or less.

I read a comment by a Big XII fan who thinks the fall of the ACC, Big XII, and Pac-12 (and the rise of a P2-only football league) is inevitable. In this post, I'm going to show that, while that may be the most likely outcome, it's not inevitable by any means...
I looked at athletic department revenues and came up with a list of the top 24 teams not already in either the SEC or the Big Ten:

Personally, I don’t think ACC commissioner Jim Phillips’ plan to end divisional play and go to a 3-5-5 scheduling model is a good idea. I don’t see why Virginia would be in favor of that model either.
Think about it. In 2019, when UVA finally won the Coastal Division and played powerhouse Clemson in the ACC Championship game, everyone pretty much knew the Cavaliers would lose that contest, but still get a bid to the Orange Bowl because Clemson was in the College Football Playoffs.
That meant UVA had to finish best out of its other six Coastal Division opponents for the great opportunity. Virginia had the same opportunity a few times over the years since the conference went to divisional play in 2005, but never could beat Virginia Tech in regular-season-ending showdowns.
If the ACC votes to eliminate divisional play, the top two teams in the 14-team race will play for the championship. All of a sudden, Virginia, or any other team in the league, has to worry about finishing ahead of 12 other teams instead of six, thus making Tony Elliott’s challenge twice as hard. Why would UVA vote for that?
Don’t @ me about the new model allowing players to compete in games against other ACC schools more often. I don’t think any Cavalier player would feel his career was incomplete because he didn’t get to play Boston College or Syracuse. Yeah, it would be nice, but …
Oh, and just glancing back at the ACC Championship Game since ‘05, only three times have the participants won fewer than nine games. In fact, a runner-up in the other division won more games than those three that failed to win nine.
So it appears that in order to make it to the ACC Championship, a team must win at least nine games in most cases. History tells us that has been a problem for Virginia, which has won nine games or more only eight times (three of those times, the ninth win actually came in a bowl game), doesn’t have a track record of producing teams that would qualify for an ACC Championship appearance in a free-for-all, 14-team scramble.
Chris Slade, who played on Virginia’s only 10-win team in 1989, couldn’t believe that was the program’s only squad to hit double figure wins. That was more than 30 years ago.
I rest my case.

Black signs with Saints after rookie camp tryout (PS; Mink)
Syracuse defensive lineman Josh Black has signed with the New Orleans Saints after attending the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, earning a spot on the 90-man roster ahead of training camp later this summer.
Black and his agency posted the news on social media Tuesday.
Terms of the agreement, including guaranteed money, weren’t released.
Black becomes the third rookie SU defensive lineman to sign with an NFL team.
McKinley Williams and Kingsley Jonathan signed with the Colts and Bills, respectively, immediately after going unselected during the NFL draft.
Black wasn’t offered a contract after the draft.
To earn a contract, he attended rookie minicamp with the Chicago Bears earlier this month before trying out for the Saints’ roster this past weekend.
Black has played on the interior of the defensive line and at end throughout his college career. He was credited with 155 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, an interception and two blocked kicks. He earned All-ACC honorable mention recognition as a sixth-year senior in 2021.
Organized team activities pick up next week and continue through June, with training camp set to get underway later this summer.

Former Syracuse offensive lineman Airon Servais has been invited to the New York Jets rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
The news was shared by his Wisconsin-based training facility Tuesday night.
The Jets will hold their rookie minicamp Friday through Sunday at team headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Servais was the most durable player in college football, ending his career with an FBS-record 60-straight starts over five seasons.
He played both tackle positions and has spent time at center, the position he anchored in 2018 when he earned first-team All-ECAC honors after SU’s 10-3 season.

Buffalo Bills UDFA Profile: DE Kingsley Jonathan (buffalodown.com; Croce)
The Buffalo Bills added Von Miller and Shaq Lawson at the position this offseason. Can Kingsley Jonathan make the 53-man roster as a rookie?
The Buffalo Bills have always put an emphasis on their defensive line under Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. The reason is that they rotate players regularly during the game so depth is important on this part of the roster.
One player that is going to try and break into that rotation is Kingsley Jonathan, who played the past five years just down I-90 at Syracuse, and was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft.
Weight: 260 pounds
Kingsley Jonathan appeared in 43 games over five seasons at Syracuse University. He had 100 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, and 15 sacks with four passes defended.
Jonathan was relatively consistent during his time with the Orange and his best season was in 2018 when he had five sacks and six tackles for a loss.

The $160 million sale of Bristol Myers Squibb’s pharmaceutical plant in East Syracuse could expand business here in a big way as South Korea’s fifth-largest company takes it first steps toward a new venture: making medicines.
Lotte Group does nothing small. It holds leading positions in most of its markets, which include everything from food and beverages to retail, chemicals and hotels. It has operations in over 30 countries. It’s built the seventh tallest building in the world.
Now it’s making its first move into biotech. Overall, it’s a nearly $2 billion plan, one South Korean news outlet reported.
And it’s picked East Syracuse as the North American headquarters for that effort.
“Lotte has not been in the business before,” said David Reed, a former in-house counsel to Bristol who now runs a Syracuse law firm that advises South Korean and other international companies. “This is their flagship. They’re planting their flag in the pharmaceutical business and they’re doing it in Syracuse.”
The sale of the Thompson Road plant to Lotte includes an agreement under which the company would produce medicine worth $220 million for Bristol over the next three years. The more than 400 Bristol employees at the plant will become Lotte employees when the acquisition is completed in the second half of 2022.

Syracuse Football: A top prospect out of New York state to officially visit SU (itlh; Adler)
One of the best prospects in New York within his recruiting cycle plans to take an official visit to Syracuse football next month, he said on social media.
Three-star linebacker Zyian Moultrie-Goddard revealed on Twitter that he plans to travel to the Hill for an official visit on June 17. He said in that tweet that his trip to Central New York in his first official visit to a college campus.
Obviously, it’s an encouraging sign that Orange coaches have scored a visit from the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Moultrie-Goddard, who is a member of the 2023 class and attends Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y.
Not too long ago, we noted in a separate piece that 2023 three-star offensive lineman Eric King is scheduled to officially visit the ‘Cuse from June 24 to June 26, he recently said via Twitter.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound King goes to Saint Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, N.J., and rates him as one of the best offensive guards across the country in his recruiting cycle.

Speedy 2023 Wide Receiver 'Blessed And Thankful' for Syracuse Offer (SI; McAllister)
Syracuse wide receivers coach Mike Johnson was in Florida recently evaluating talent for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes. He spent time at The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach and watched class of 2023 athlete Micah Mays. Mays, a 6-2, 175 pounder, is also a track star. The combination of size, athleticism and speed makes him an intriguing prospect.
After Johnson saw Mays live, an offer was extended.
"Blessed and thankful," Mays said of the offer.
In addition, Mays says his interest in the Orange is "strong." Syracuse joins a list of offers that totals nearly three dozen. They include Appalachian State, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Louisville, Minnesota, NC State, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and West Virginia, among others. Cincinnati, Florida State, Miami, Northwestern and Purdue are among those that have also expressed interest.
Mays had 42 catches for 724 yards (17.2 average) and seven touchdowns during his junior season (highlights in the video at the top of the page).

ESPN Insider Predicts Pitt's Permanent ACC Opponents (SI; Thompson)
The ACC appears primed to eliminate the two-division model that determines football scheduling and who plays in the annual championship game. A 3-3-5 model that gives each team three opponents to play every year and five rotating opponents was the most popular option at the conference's spring meetings last week, and ever since, speculation about who will draw who has run wild. ESPN ACC insider Andrea Adelson gave her predictions about who the Pittsburgh Panthers will play in their annual conference matchups.
Adelson said she thinks Pitt will draw Miami, Syracuse and Boston College as their three permanent opponents. For other teams in the conference, Adelson found it easier to assign them natural rivals. But the Panthers are a special case.
As a member of the conference's northern contingent, they do not have the proximity or historical ties that other ACC schools have to one another.
"I am also uncertain about how the league will approach the Northern flank, especially since those schools want to have a presence south," Adelson wrote in a thread on Twitter. "I left Miami-Pitt because of its previous history and current yearly matchup."
Syracuse, Miami and Boston College are all former Big East members that have varying degrees of familiarity with the Panthers.
Syracuse is an obvious choice and the only team that Adelson thinks is a lock to play Pitt annually. While the most compelling chapters of the Panther-Orange rivalry have happened on the hardwood, the gridiron has still produced some great moments. The two schools have played football against one another 77 times and once a year ever since 1955. Recent history has been dominated by the Panthers, but the games have been close. Six of the last nine contests have been decided by single digits and the 2016 game - a 76-61 win for the Panthers - still holds the record for most points in an FBS game completed in regulation.
Miami and Boston College's history with the Panthers is much less storied. Pitt has played the Hurricanes just 41 times and rarely found success. Since 1984, the Panthers have beaten Miami just three times and only seven games have been decided by one score or less.

Personally, I don’t think ACC commissioner Jim Phillips’ plan to end divisional play and go to a 3-5-5 scheduling model is a good idea. I don’t see why Virginia would be in favor of that model either.
Think about it. In 2019, when UVA finally won the Coastal Division and played powerhouse Clemson in the ACC Championship game, everyone pretty much knew the Cavaliers would lose that contest, but still get a bid to the Orange Bowl because Clemson was in the College Football Playoffs.
That meant UVA had to finish best out of its other six Coastal Division opponents for the great opportunity. Virginia had the same opportunity a few times over the years since the conference went to divisional play in 2005, but never could beat Virginia Tech in regular-season-ending showdowns.
If the ACC votes to eliminate divisional play, the top two teams in the 14-team race will play for the championship. All of a sudden, Virginia, or any other team in the league, has to worry about finishing ahead of 12 other teams instead of six, thus making Tony Elliott’s challenge twice as hard. Why would UVA vote for that?
Don’t @ me about the new model allowing players to compete in games against other ACC schools more often. I don’t think any Cavalier player would feel his career was incomplete because he didn’t get to play Boston College or Syracuse. Yeah, it would be nice, but …
Oh, and just glancing back at the ACC Championship Game since ‘05, only three times have the participants won fewer than nine games. In fact, a runner-up in the other division won more games than those three that failed to win nine.
So it appears that in order to make it to the ACC Championship, a team must win at least nine games in most cases. History tells us that has been a problem for Virginia, which has won nine games or more only eight times (three of those times, the ninth win actually came in a bowl game), doesn’t have a track record of producing teams that would qualify for an ACC Championship appearance in a free-for-all, 14-team scramble.
Chris Slade, who played on Virginia’s only 10-win team in 1989, couldn’t believe that was the program’s only squad to hit double figure wins. That was more than 30 years ago.
I rest my case.

Black signs with Saints after rookie camp tryout (PS; Mink)
Syracuse defensive lineman Josh Black has signed with the New Orleans Saints after attending the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, earning a spot on the 90-man roster ahead of training camp later this summer.
Black and his agency posted the news on social media Tuesday.
Terms of the agreement, including guaranteed money, weren’t released.
Black becomes the third rookie SU defensive lineman to sign with an NFL team.
McKinley Williams and Kingsley Jonathan signed with the Colts and Bills, respectively, immediately after going unselected during the NFL draft.
Black wasn’t offered a contract after the draft.
To earn a contract, he attended rookie minicamp with the Chicago Bears earlier this month before trying out for the Saints’ roster this past weekend.
Black has played on the interior of the defensive line and at end throughout his college career. He was credited with 155 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, an interception and two blocked kicks. He earned All-ACC honorable mention recognition as a sixth-year senior in 2021.
Organized team activities pick up next week and continue through June, with training camp set to get underway later this summer.

Former Syracuse offensive lineman Airon Servais has been invited to the New York Jets rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
The news was shared by his Wisconsin-based training facility Tuesday night.
The Jets will hold their rookie minicamp Friday through Sunday at team headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Servais was the most durable player in college football, ending his career with an FBS-record 60-straight starts over five seasons.
He played both tackle positions and has spent time at center, the position he anchored in 2018 when he earned first-team All-ECAC honors after SU’s 10-3 season.

The Buffalo Bills added Von Miller and Shaq Lawson at the position this offseason. Can Kingsley Jonathan make the 53-man roster as a rookie?
The Buffalo Bills have always put an emphasis on their defensive line under Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. The reason is that they rotate players regularly during the game so depth is important on this part of the roster.
One player that is going to try and break into that rotation is Kingsley Jonathan, who played the past five years just down I-90 at Syracuse, and was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft.

Kingsley Jonathan appeared in 43 games over five seasons at Syracuse University. He had 100 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, and 15 sacks with four passes defended.

The $160 million sale of Bristol Myers Squibb’s pharmaceutical plant in East Syracuse could expand business here in a big way as South Korea’s fifth-largest company takes it first steps toward a new venture: making medicines.
Lotte Group does nothing small. It holds leading positions in most of its markets, which include everything from food and beverages to retail, chemicals and hotels. It has operations in over 30 countries. It’s built the seventh tallest building in the world.
Now it’s making its first move into biotech. Overall, it’s a nearly $2 billion plan, one South Korean news outlet reported.
And it’s picked East Syracuse as the North American headquarters for that effort.
“Lotte has not been in the business before,” said David Reed, a former in-house counsel to Bristol who now runs a Syracuse law firm that advises South Korean and other international companies. “This is their flagship. They’re planting their flag in the pharmaceutical business and they’re doing it in Syracuse.”
The sale of the Thompson Road plant to Lotte includes an agreement under which the company would produce medicine worth $220 million for Bristol over the next three years. The more than 400 Bristol employees at the plant will become Lotte employees when the acquisition is completed in the second half of 2022.
